no one:
MJ, while standing;
and I love him for that
gorya falling in love with thyme like clockwork
time to evidence all the dubious in love things gorya has been doing and saying while utterly in denial. in no particular order:
1. being angsty when thyme doesn't believe her that she has been framed.
2. preparing on the date with whole family involvement. wholesome scene, even includes brother’s concerns over her perspiration a la product placement.
3. collapsing into thyme’s arms in relief when he appears after the whole school went purge on her, grabbing ever so tight onto his shirt collar as she sobs into his collarbone. not romantic at all.
4. having the boy in her lap as she gives him a sponge bath while he malfunctions and she oblivious to it handles him like a sack of potatoes. he offers no resistance.
5. accidental kiss moment. gorya sits on the floor utterly perplexed at the scene, her crush just saw her kiss her arch nemesis and now she clutches her lips reliving the moment while getting all tingly.
6. her look when he put a cooling patch on her forehead. SHOOKeth.
7. her look when he grabs her cheeks on the zoo date and she panics and blushes away. UWU.
8. her reaction to being taken care of by thyme in the closet, he dresses her wound and she while she insists on being the one to dress his too, he objects. he grabs her face into his hands aaaaaaandddd she glitches. THUMP. THUMP.
9. random heart eyes when thyme leans in to remove a piece of fluff from her hair after the first rainy day date. she stumbles back to the gate at home and he leans in--we are all waiting with baiter breath and gorya forgets her name only for mr thyme to sneeze. classic. she goner or what.
10. the smiles she offers as she pushes him to go not once but twice. first time when he leaves her home after magic pork and second after the ‘date’ as he gets into the car and she smirks and coos and sort of squirms while he pleads for a second date. she says nooo, gooo away but her body language is like, umm dunno maybe YES with bows on it? guuurl you in trouble.

iceberg of your love
episode nine thoughts
while Thyme's instinct is to collect his owner Gorya when his mother announces his engagement, he makes a fatal error and flees the scene with Lita. thus he sets in motion series of disasters that cause Gorya’s preservation to falter.
Gorya’s astonishment and despair doesn't begin to cover how she feels in front of all those people who witness the betrayal. people who would never understand it was a mishap. and aren't some accidents on purpose?
so when Thyme realises the girl in the car is Lita, he chucks her out, but she doesn't give in without a fight. her feisty unpredictable equals Gorya’s. she makes for a fierce opponent. and this is where the mother comes in as the smartest one fo them all. she found someone who was similar to Gorya, or so she thought, in temperament.
Gorya perceives the similarities immediately.
bickering, the love language of Thyme x Gorya has been hijacked by Lita.
what astounded me the most? Lita treating Gorya’s life and friendship as an experiment, the way she inhales and indulges Gorya’s presence as if it was something to get drunk on, the same way Thyme does in the beginning. with passage of time he tries to become a safe space for Gorya, but this becomes arrested development with Lita’s arrival.
undoubtedly a carbon copy material between Thyme x Lita and Thyme x Gorya even Lita x Gorya.
the way they both present Gorya’s with gifts using the exact same phrases.
the way Lita fights Thyme is exact replica of how Thyme fell in love with Gorya.
despite all that is bubbling under the surface, Gorya creates a safe space for them both as a friend, and becomes a home where they recoup for a night.
the tragedy of it all?
who is Gorya’s safe space? it’s not Thyme.
it’s actually Ren. we see this from the way he offers her helping hand when her dress is torn, symbolically by Lita, as she yanked her hand, the bracelet caught a thread and unraveled her life with it.
see, for Gorya the hardest thing of all is witnessing Thyme bond with Lita, not only because they share the same background, upbringing and even same chapter traits. so naturally for her, it seems like a perfect match and she feels like the odd one out. but also because she sense there is something between them, that she cannot put her finger on. she friend zones herself and Thyme doesn't fill in the blanks with Lita.
in fact the time he could have used telling Lita he loved Gorya? what does he do? he excites Lita’s attention the way he talks about love and ignites her passion for him. his speech about love to Gorya, whom he doesn’t mention, makes Lita fall for him. ironic. is it not?
Thyme does his best to cope with the surge of being in demand, which he has never experienced. but you can tell he wavers a little when Lita bites his ear, his soft spot, or when he sees her hurt he symbolically offers the plaster Gorya has given him to Lita.
this act of taking care of Lita that Gorya is quick to pick up on, cements her belief that this is in fact over. she allows the defeat to happen by never speaking up.
while Gorya plays strong in front of Ren, just a moment prior; before Lita hijacks her once again, we see her resolve stumble, as she sees the plaster on Lita’s heel (it has meteors on it! nice touch). these little instances accumulate into the ultimate breakdown, where not even the sweetness of Thyme’s gestures, i.e. waiting for her to get back home to see her brother before he travels - even the usual things that soften her heart - no longer work.
I think she starts to realise that the way Lita treated her reality as an escape from hers, is what Thyme might be doing. he is not. but it has given her that impression.
Thyme does not question her whereabouts, (when she comes home after queuing professionally for an item, which Lita mentions she did herself, i.e. used someone to queue for her when she gives her a dress).
actually, the way Lita gives her a dress mirrors the shoes incident with Ren and Mira. it’s kind of become a right of passage for Gorya to befriend the women of her crushes. but this time, it hurts. you can tell by her expressions, she tried to be brave, but one detects the pain behind each smile, each promise to be a good friend to Lita. this was not present with Mira, because she was not invested.
that in itself should tell the viewer how much she loves Thyme, because despite all efforts she DOES and she cannot deny it to herself.
after Thyme asked Gorya to be patient, the unspoken agreement between them to accept their situation created a layer of distance. so, even when Thyme is kind to her brother, she cannot overlook the glaringly obvious stabbing feeling pounding out of her chest as he casually mentions Lita at the sacred magic pork table.
Gorya’s cup runneth over.
Thyme recognises the warning signs a little too late. she has already notified his family and made her decision well before he had a chance to redeem himself.
when Thyme ushers Gorya outside, to speak about what’s going on, (because he doesn't want to argue in front of her brother, that’s how much he has grown up!) asking her to have it out, rather than passing sarcastic remarks she is already broken in half. exhausted. the palpable tension between radiates out of the screen and shatters your heart watching two people in love, unable to cope with the degree of obstacles. not for lack of trying. the doubts just took over.
Thyme is bewildered at the vehemence of her emotions, it’s bittersweet, because for the first time he is seeing the depth of her regard and affections.
her exasperated reasoning, when actually no assurance is sufficient, because what she is looking for is something he cannot give her. he cannot promise this will be the last time they are facing wrath of his mother. and there are more layers there. the insecurity developed when she watched them at the funeral, taking care of Lita, protecting her. and all this comes so easily with Lita, while with her it has been hard work.
when Lita mentioned that she loved Thyme, and his childishness, she actually touched upon something significant, she clocked his innocence, and suddenly Gorya is feeling responsible for HIM, even though he is an adult teenager and she a teenager. Gorya feels like the connection she has with him is not enough, or not special enough. she thinks, if he can love Lita his life will be better. there is an element of her worrying about the consequences if he keeps on running away, going against his mother’s will. Gorya is scared that his decisions about his heart will affect people. real people. because of business.
and she knows all about this, from her father’s experience. right? she has seen what happens when innocent people lose their jobs when things go wrong. so if these two families need to merge their strengths in order to create safety net for others, who is SHE, a mere Gorya to stand in his way?
that is the problem. she finally understood his world.
the shift is too severe to ignore, perhaps the plaster changed the dynamic and Lita’s confession ruptured her. it harmed her like a stone grinds you down. and Gorya is inexplicably tired from fighting for something and someone who may never be hers.
yes, she loves him. he loves her. all of this she knows. but what is it for? how much force to do you need to engage before you are happy? should happiness not come naturally as a result of the presence of the one you love?
and what Gorya witnessed, the ease of their interactions between Thyme and Lita, exhibiting traits she herself had with Thyme led to her to believe she must step aside.
all that Thyme comprehends is that the one person he has been fighting to be with is betraying him and ultimately rejecting him one last time. he certainly feels her heart breaking, but he is in too much pain to say anything that could salvage the situation. and there have never been words that one could say to mend what's broken.
so they part, both utterly devastated under the weight of their grief, while neither of them see the what the other one is going through. indeed their love is an iceberg, that neither of them know the scale of.
only time will tell.
