Cottagecore has a lot of intra-community issues (trad stuff and racism mostly) but I find that the funniest is that so many of these people romanticise the farm/cottage life, but so few of them have ever, say, hand washed & line-dryed clothes, grown any plants, baked bread, or owned a single chicken. The aesthetic goes out the window when you actually start doing these things, because reality isn't an aesthetic. It kinda sucks.

Hand washing & line drying clothes is fun and can be eco friendly, but it's tedious, can damage your hands (and your clothes!) if you don't do it properly, and it's often looked down upon because it's associated with the "lower" classes; in some places it's illegal to line dry clothing because the "upper" classes think it's inappropriate. Gardening is hard work; foraging is incredibly dangerous unless you have years of experience under your belt. Baking bread is messy and you keep accidentlaly killing the yeast I'm so soSO sorry yeast particles baby come back :(

And chickens die so SO easily. My darling why are you the most edible creature in a forty mile radius. (That'd be a good pickup line maybe? IDK I'm ace…) Why am I having to fight foxes, bobcats, raccoons, and owls for your life. And why do I go through all of this work to protect you if you just decide to die because the thunder was too loud??? Chickens are neurodivergent confirmed… noise too loud, literally died because of it…

I… don't know where this post went qwq Everything the cottagecore girlies romanticize is hard work, dirty, sweaty, stinky, and very disappointing sometimes. I LOVE the aesthetic, but it's just as much a fantasy as mermaidcore, and I wish people realized that!

I'd like to learn 3D printing and robotics to build an astromech… Obviously it wouldn't be anything fancy or super high tech, but I'd love to have a little robo buddy.

I know you can make them in the parks, but I think it'd ultimately be cheaper to learn 3D printing and robotics and make my own.

Not to mention the fact that I might make actual real human friends this way, and I won't have to deal with the noises and crowds in the parks… Plus I could greeble them up!

I dislike how people critique Harry Potter by suggesting that it's bad because it's a children's book series. That's unfair to all of the perfectly good children's, teen, and young adult series (past, present, and future) that aren't steaming piles of excrement.

This argument is ageist and frankly ignores the major problems with the series; namely JKR's racism and sexism which so prominently saturate the plot, characters, and prose.

The series is bad because it's bigotry written by a bigot who benefits from the money and attention given to the series, who then uses said money and influence to harm people of color, trans people, women, and other marginalized groups in her home country and around the world; it's not because the target audience is kids!

Art is not inherently lesser because it was made with children/teens/minors in mind!

Nobody has a spirit animal because "spirit animal" is a racist concept created by colonizers who lumped all Indigenous Turtle Island residents' beliefs together because they couldn't be bothered to respect the differences and variations within them. Some Indigenous Turtle Island folks might choose to reclaim it, but if you aren't part of an Indigenous Turtle Island people, you should not be attempting to "reclaim" it.

"Spirit animal" did not come from Indigenous people, it came from white colonizers homogenizing all of said Indigenous peoples and their beliefs together. It was (and still is) an act of racism and white supremacy that infantilizes, misinterprets, assimilates, and erases Indigenous cultures and beliefs. It feeds into the "noble savage" and "mystical injun" stereotypes. It decontextualizes a variety of religio-spiritual practices and beliefs within numerous Indigenous cultures. Please do not perpetuate it, even as a joke. Thank you for being an ally! 🐢💕

If you do feel a strong connection to an animal, that's wonderful, and I'm so happy for you! It may very well be that you are otherkin, that you should make a fursona (they're a lot of fun!), or that you have a familiar or spirit guide that happens to be an animal, animal spirit, or takes the form of one. Please use the correct terminology, as in doing so, not only will you prevent racism from being perpetuated, but you'll also allow yourself honesty and freedom (not to mention showing proper respect to the spirits you're working with) 🕊 Kill the part of you that cringes; it is a liar who leads you only to misery and hate!

(Sorry for this heavier than usual post, but I felt it was important for me to comment on, as a kinnie, a furry, and a spiritual witch. I see this joke a lot in these spaces, and it makes me very uncomfortable because I know the origin of "spirit animal".)

Being a neurodivergent person who's been told I sound "like a robot" or "fake" or something, only to then be told years later that I must be a bot or (gen) AI because I "write my posts like a robot/(gen) AI", because gen AI have been trained using the posts of real people and thusly have picked up their syntax and patterns; which is especially devious since many people online are neurodivergent, as the online space provides a better outlet for a lot of neurodiverse people, which leads to gen AI picking up on neurodiverse typing/writing/speech quirks… it hurts. It hurts alot. Especially when it comes from "allies" and other neurodiverse people.

I don't "sound like an (gen) AI", the (gen) AI sounds like me!!!!

Gen AI is a parasite, but you're attacking the hosts that it's nonconsensually stealing from!!!!
