Fake relationships

This trope should be renamed as pre-real relationships. I'm sure I read more than the ones currently in this list, but I can't find them at the moment. Please do check other people's reblogs, plenty more recs there!

The One-Week Husband, by missunderstoodlyrics. Rated M, 50k. P. Nov 25.

Fantastic fake relationship human AU, full of humour and sweet moments. With just a pinch of angst towards the end (but with of course the sweetest happy ending), you can relax and read on as these two banter, get close and pretend they are not falling in love.

Of Size And Other Matters, by LCwrites. Rated E, 28 k. P. Jul 22.  

Lovely from strangers to lovers, fake relationship human AU. Aziraphale needs a date to accompany him to an event hosted by his brother, Gabriel. Crowley receives a text from a stranger, clearly by mistake, but why not having some fun? I really like the dynamics between them, the ease and the trust. A tiny bit of angsty pining but quickly and happily resolved. 

The Small Ad, by ladydragona and SylWritesStuff, rated E, 32k. P. Jan 24.

To overcome boredom, Crowley offers his services as a hired partner. Aziraphale is in need of someone to pretend to be his partner. The rest is history. This is a lovely, hot, and sweet fake relationship fiction. Very interestingly, the POV changes at every paragraph, and because the story has two authors it left me wondering whether one wrote Crowley and one wrote Aziraphale, but kind of in real time.

 Human AU where Aziraphale comes from a very wealthy, traditional, old fashioned family and needs a date to take to his brother's (Gabriel) wedding. Guess who volunteers?

And Now All Of My Garden Is Grown In Lavender, by ilikeblue. Rated E, 72k. P. Apr 24.

Aziraphale is a successful queer romance author whose books are being adapted for TV. At the start of his career, his agent, Gabriel, insisted he claims to be married in order to gain more readers. Now that the spotlight is on him, Aziraphale needs someone to play the part of his husband. Did I mention that Crowley is Aziraphale's gardener and friend? I'm sure you know where this is going. This story has a little angst and lots of good vibes of trust, friendship, love and loyalty. And a happy ending! 

On The Same Page, by Chekhov. Rated E, 117k. P. Sep 20.

Human AU where Aziraphale and Crowley are both writers. Aziraphale writes Christian books, Crowley writes adult books and they help each other out with their writing. Until they have to pretend to be married. This was such a good read, I really couldn't put it down. It's almost exclusively narrated in Aziraphale's POV but the mutual pining is evident and the build up to them resolving their issues is so bittersweet and deep and just lovely. There is a happy ending, don't worry. And the side story will really... aargghh, I won't spoil it for you, just read it. 

Married At First Sight, by Aracloptia. Rated T, 146k. P. Dec 23.

A new classic! I doubt anyone reading these lists might have missed this fic, but let me tell you how much I loved it anyway! As the title suggests, Aziraphale and Crowley take part in the reality Married At First Sight. It's hate at first sight for our two heroes, unfortunately, but the slow burn that follows must be one of the sweetest things I've read in fiction. Crowley and Aziraphale both come a long way to understand each other and let their guard down, and the whole process is just marvelous to witness. And, no, I've never watched a single episode of the show Married At First Sight either, you really don't need to on order to enjoy this fabulous fiction. Lovely array of side characters to top it all!

I hate how larries act like pompous assholes who think they're smarter than normal fans. There's a huge difference between a record label helping the musician they've invested in craft a musical identity, which is common for pop singers, that may not be completely authentic and may just be a public persona to sell music, AND FAKING ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIPS AND PARENTHOOD.

Like, larries keep crying that zara/louis is ruining louis' career and he gets nothing out of it. So then why don't these idiots connect the dots and wonder why a label would waste money on something like this, if louis gets nothing out of it. Same goes with freddie, in what universe would any business waste money with whatever larries think is going on.

@sunnywiththescoop is a Tumblr blog run by two women who work in PR. To the horror and outrage of Tumblr's conspiracy community, they both maintain that fake relationships are an 'outdated and impractical' type of promo that is rarely engaged in these days.

When fake relationships do occur, it's just a few very public, local appearances (such as an awards show in the city both celebs live in) to keep costs down and make sure any pap photos are crystal clear. There are no blurred photos taken by fans that the press can't use.

There are also no contracts with savage clauses such as 'must not post Harry Styles on my main account.' The whole thing is casual and friendly.

Same for the very rare fake relationships designed to closet a celeb. This never happens with LGBT actors or singers in their 20s anyway, as the ideal state for them is always single.

The notion of 24 year old Louis Tomlinson being closeted with a fake baby and a fake girlfriend is absolutely ludicrous. If he was gay and wanted to stay in the closet, he'd simply have said he didn't have time for a relationship with 1d's heavy schedule. This is what Stephen Gately of Boyzone did for six years, and when the band went on hiatus in 1999, he came out as gay straight away.

A listers like Harry and Taylor Swift never engage in fake relationships because if anything they are over exposed. They don't need a relationship to attract publicity when they can get it the second they announce a new project, or simply visit a local restaurant.

Who does engage in a PR relationship? New celebs desperate to get the media's attention. For instance, two people who were kicked off Love Island UK in its fourth week might fake a relationship to keep themselves in the tabloid headlines as otherwise they'd disappear without trace.

Zara has been in the UK headlines for years. Even prior to the break up with Sam, she was a very regular feature. She doesn't need Louis to get the press' attention, and as a supposed indie artist, he shouldn't be courting Daily Mail headlines either unless it's in relation to his music. They might seem an unlikely couple, but they are actually dating.

Yes, anon. Fake relationships, PRromances, PR stunts and “short term agreements” have been a common practice in the industry since the dawn of time. Everybody knows, but some choose to be completely and conveniently oblivious to this topic. I "appreciate" the shade coming from Sam and Pete, though.

Said man shot him a small smile, something that would have fooled anyone else into thinking he was fine, but not Zack.

Zack opened his mouth, maybe to protest or maybe to try and comfort the other but nothing came out. Nothing came out and Zack felt like his world was ending with the tears shining in the other’s eyes, pained smile plastered on his face all the while.

Zack felt like he couldn’t move when the blond tip toed, kissing his cheek chastely before moving away. He didn’t get to do much else before Cloud was walking away, suit jacket forgotten on the nearby table, wedding ring glinting in the sunlight on top.
