Fungi are some of the weirdest and most fascinating creatures on Earth, but they’ve really outdone themselves with this one: Hair ice. According to new research, the icy hair-sculptures that crop up overnight in forests before melting away in the sun have fungal fingerprints all over them.

I've been considering a sort of space-themed worm Pokemon based on a "wormhole" but I'm not sure what type(s) to make it (maybe Psychic?) or what sort of moves it might get besides teleport or ally switch (or maybe "Hyperspace Hole", but that's the sig move of Hoopa). Any ideas?

Psychic is a pretty common type for space-based things, from what I’ve seen, so that could easily work. Dark and ghost are the other two semi-obvious ideas, or maybe water if you want to go the palkia route (I believe common consensus is that it’s a water-type due to the fluidity of space). You could probably slide another type on there as a dual-type, but that may mean basing it on a little more than just wormholes: maybe rock if you want to throw in some planets (that it might have burrowed through?), or fire for stars. Maybe steel, and base it partially on space ships that travel through wormholes?

Those all sound like good move ideas to me, even hyperspace hole if you don’t mind hoopa sharing its sig (just stay away from hyperspace fury, which seems less thematically appropriate and also literally doesn’t work if anything other than hoopa unbound uses it). Those are the only examples I can think of that closely resemble or reference wormholes, but other, less-wormholey-but-still-appropriate ideas include cosmic power, gravity and perhaps future sight. It might also be an interesting candidate for one or more of trick room/magic room/wonder room, or any of the moves that swap stats or abilities around (skill swap, guard swap, etc.).

You can also come up with your own sig move or sig moves, of course! The sky’s the limit with that.

I'm making a legendary duo based off of Venus and Mars (not mascots). I know the venus one will be Rock/Poison and the Mars one Fighting/Dark or Fire. But I'm stuck on how to design them. Any ideas?

For fakemon based on deities, you could honestly go anywhere, I think. Humanoid designs come to mind immediately, one that looks like a beautiful woman and one like a powerful warrior, but you could just as easily pick animals or objects and just make them look “beautiful and graceful” and “fierce and warlike” in some way and it’d still work fine. Hm... you could try incorporating the Venus and Mars (female and male) symbols in there somehow. You could look at armor designs for Greek or Roman soldiers or gladiators for Mars, and... maybe Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus” for Venus? The clam shell might be an interesting way to handle the rock aspect.

I was wondering what you would think about a steel/poison type based on rust. I have that much but I have no concept for the fakemon itself. Any advice?

The first thing that keeps coming to my mind is the Dungeons and Dragons “rust monster”, which is usually depicted as a largeish, roach-like creature with antennae that can immediately rust iron for it to eat. I dunno if you’re up for explicitly basing fakemon on D&D monsters, but it’s a thought. It also got me thinking about other insectoid creatures—termites, maybe? Normally they eat wood, of course, but perhaps you could have a fakemon termite that destroys metal instead.

You could also have something that’s less about causing rust and more about something that’s already rusty, run-down and maybe a little dangerous. A derelict robot, maybe, or an inanimate metal object like an old rusty bear trap.

Hey, I was thinking of making a flying/poison type based off of the "canary in a coalmine" concept, and I'm wondering what to do for evolutions. Any suggestions? Thanks!

What to do for evolutions would largely depend on what you’re doing for the basic stage, but here’s a thought: maybe it could change type as it evolves? Like, say it starts out normal/flying as a regular canary, then eventually progresses to poison/ghost—perhaps it died as a result of all the gas exposure and has become either a vengeful spirit or a spirit that continues to protect the miners after its passing?

Alternatively, if you don’t want it to “die” and would prefer something that’s more outright resistant to the poison, a design incorporating a gas mask might be a way to go. (Maybe you could even riff off of a plague doctor’s mask, which isn’t quite the same thing but is beak-shaped and was at least intended to ward off “bad air”?)

An interesting middle ground between those two would be to make the final evo a living poison/flying, but one that generates a lot of its own gases—it doesn’t “die” from all the exposure but instead evolves to become like the toxic gases, and again would possibly be vengeful and out to poison the people who tried to take advantage of it.

I hope those ideas can point you in some interesting directions, distressingly late as they are!
