Is it alright to ask why you picked Ozpin to rp as? And I guess why you like him? I personally hate him (No offense to you) and would kinda like to know why
Well friend, I gotta admit its a little strange that you follow this blog if you hate the character it mainly features.
As for me, I love Ozpin. From the first episode he stood out to me as a character I was going to get attached to. He’s just so soothing, understanding. He’s the type of character that you can bring your problems to and know he’s going to listen. He takes things seriously, but not too seriously and is perfectly happy to let others have fun and live their lives how they choose to.
Ozpin is just soft. He’s seen so much crap, witnessed the worst of humanity and been betrayed by it time and time again and yet he’s still trying. He’s always trying. Trying to protect people, as many people as possible. Trying to guide, to lead, but never trying to infringe on the choices of others.
And that’s a big thing with Ozpin choice. People like to throw around the claim that he’s forcing people to fight in this war but that’s never been the case. At every point, it has been everyone’s choice to follow him. When Raven chose to leave, she left, and he’s never said a bad word about her for it, the same with Tai from what we can tell. With the Fall Maiden business he was constantly making sure that this was Pyrrha’s choice, and when it came time to defend Haven, he specifically gave everyone the option to leave. The only time that this hasn’t held true was with Oscar. Ozpin had to convince him to go to Haven because he knew he needed to be present to protect it, and when he infringed upon Oscar’s agency there it was only because Hazel had just sworn to murder him and there was no way anyone else could stop him.
Ozpin is such a hopeful, human character. Even with all that has happened to him, he’s still hopeful. Even when he’s just got a bunch of dubious students and a dusty old Qrow with him, he’s still hopeful. He makes mistakes, some more damaging than others, but that’s all they are, mistakes. Things that he tries day-in and day-out to rectify, things that he carries with him as his own burdens, that he has a right to keep to himself.
I started rping as Ozpin because honestly I look up to him. He’s weathered what the world has thrown at him for millennia, and he’s come out of it straight-backed, and with a hopeful sense of humour. The strength of character that shows is truly admirable and something that I need in my life.
And say what you will but he does trust people. Perhaps not with his deepest, darkest secrets (who would?) but when he knew that Blake, a faunus, had something to do with the White Fang and she didn’t want to talk about it, he trusted her. When Ruby gave him the suspicious tip about the hideout in Mountain Glenn, he not only trusted her word, but her team when they wanted to go. He trusted James even after the General betrayed him, and he believed that Leo still deserved an honorable reputation in death even after the man had threatened to personally bring Oscar to Salem.
I’ll personally never get why people hate Ozpin. He is, to me, the gentlest, most understanding and human character in the series. He has forgiven more transgressions and sacrificed more than anyone else, and while to most what he’s done will never be enough, I will always respect him for all that he’s been through, and how he can still come out the other end of it optimistic in spite of it all.
