V.A.T.S
Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System. That is what V.A.T.S stands for. VATS is an ability to shoot any body type in both Fallout 3 and New Vegas. It was partly inspired by the ability to shoot any body part in the turn-based games of Fallout and Fallout 2. What it does is that VATS freezes in-game time and shows the body parts of the People or Things that are near you in the world of Fallout. VATS in used as a cinematic view of combat. Some memorable notes: You cannot use mines in VATS. VATS reduces CND (Condition) of the weapon 4x faster than regular firing. The player cannot move in VATS. Finally, the VATS is introduced to the Vault Dweller for his 10th birthday in the Vault (refer to my Fallout 3 Backstory and Vaults posts).
