How X6 should be
Could I get Jensen and X6-88, with Jensen dressed as the Silver Shroud and X6 dressed as a vampire? Their relationship is friendly!

'Count Essex' only bites fancy lads, so rumour would have it.
Okay so I do get why people are initially turned off by x6-88 our first real introduction to him is working with him out at libertalia and it’s pretty clear he is just here to do his job he doesn’t give two shits about you.personally it took me a few play throughs to even take him on as a companion because I never really do institute runs, but finally I got him as a companion and I really enjoyed him.
First off it needs to be established x6-88 is a slave to the institute who is brainwashed to believe that he is helping better humanity by doing the institutes bidding. A lot of institute synth dialogue mirrors his comments throughout the game,I’d put good money that these are things that synths are inherently taught to say and believe as to keep them complicit in the institutes actions against humanity or even if their own kind.
As a courser x6-88 is different than other synths though despite the fact that physically coursers seem to basically just be well trained gen three synths, the difference lies in his mental state. Coursers are taught to believe that they are simply killing machines that can’t feel emotion or show humanity, of course this is all intitute propaganda used to keep coursers in check. While travelling with x6-88 as a companion he often will worry about your safety, show discomfort around nurseries, express a fear of hights and the sky,as well as show amusement and joy when you use things like power armour and energy weapons. Of course all of his reactions are hidden under the ruse of this cold hearted killing machine who mostly just talks about how uncomfortable he is up in the commonwealth and how he’s only here to do a job. Once you reach max affinity he will mention how he looks up to you and believes that you will be a greater leader than even father could be,of course he then has to mention that he is not going soft on you which I personally view as a fear response to the fact that he should not be showing these emotions to you and you could easily have him memory wiped or decommissioned for showing any sort of emotion or “weakness” so he makes sure to establish that he is still capable of the job that he believes he was made to do.
A very intresting thing about x6-88 is how he talks to the institute scientists, at one point a scientist asks if you are capable of a job and x6-88 replies “we are not idiots sir” another time he expresses to a scientist that he “respects the brotherhood’s loyalty” both lines are not something a mindless robot who only confirms to institute ideals would say, both pieces of dialogue could be considered insubordinate if said to the wrong person.
While I do believe that x6-88’s story line is very flawed and problematic, I also believe that he is a very deep and intresting character if you actually take the time to listen to his dialogue and give him a chance.
X6-88 warm up sketch
10 sketchy saturdays!! You are a gift. Can I request X6-88 in the last scene?? Xoxo
“Do you require a higher level of participation, ma’am?”
Idk if this amazing blog is still accepting requests, but I would love a Pining X6-88. There’s so little love for my man 🥺🥰
🥺 you're so sweet I cant
- One word. Denial.
- Okay two words. Excuses.
- X6 is a stone walled man, unable to be read. Most of the times it's a blessing. This time, the first time, it's turned into a curse.
- Even though he wasn't sure what exactly he was feeling, he felt the atmosphere that it was something to conceal. But God Damn he wanted to speak about it.
-Arguing his infatuation with Sole and their every action as just him gaining compatibility in a partnership sense, he goes on for months paying it no mind. It was only when he physically reacted to them that he began to realise his predicament, excuses no longer made logical sense
- Feeling himself freeze up whenever Sole made contact with him, finding himself focused on their condition during the most demure of times. It felt so surreal but almost natural, it went beyond a simple bug in his system. He knew that
- He confides his symptoms to Curie, who gave him news he never expected to hear be relayed to him, and a question he never wanted to confront beforehand "are you perhaps... falling in love monsieur?"
- This question haunted him, the term "love" revolving around his head, and being the main topic in his writing. More excuses of other things it could be, before he just accepts what was happening.
- Upon realising, he contemplates being reconfigured in the institute, but for once his own emotional need outweighs his duty as a courser. There's no reason he can be loyal to both the Institute and to his own reasoning right? The institute manufactured him to their impeccable standard, what right could he have to question their design after all.
- And unless Sole was a mind reader, X6 isn't as stone walled as he believed him to be. It wasn't long before Sole, too, noticed his change (Even though Curie insists she never mentioned it)
- His admission is blunt, yet holding more underlying emotion than anything he's ever said previously, and thankfully Sole understood everything.
What else would you expect from your partner after all?
Fallout 4 headcannon
X6-88 takes the name Xavier initially as a way to blend into the commonwealth as to not be outed as a courser. But after a while he ends up liking the name more than his designation number.
