Summary: As an elemental witch with an earth affinity, Sam should be great at keeping plants hale and hearty. Yet the garden that had once belonged to the mother he barely remembers begins failing. It starts as soon as his brother Dean leaves with his familiar to complete their challenge of partnership. While Dean had been the one to teach Sam to garden, just as their mother had taught Dean, Sam took over the care of it years ago and has never had a problem before. Could the rustling he sometimes catches sight of among the thicker foliage have something to do with it? The wards set around the garden should be good for months, though. How could any living creature get through them? Written for the Gabriel Monthly Challenge September prompt, Witch AU, and for the October dialogue prompt, “Okay, but seriously – what was that?”
