i'm participating in a big bang, and you know what? i'm just gonna go out and say it. i am so sick of how the artists are treated at a higher tier than the writers. being an artist takes talent and time (and i love the work they create), but so does writing. and in all of these big bangs, it always seems like the artists are doing the writers a favor by participating.
and then more often than not, they don't even follow through! they drop out, they don't communicate with the writers, they produce work that you can tell they just threw together last minute. big bang artists (#notallartists) are just so often disrespectful to fellow creatives. and yet people are acting like they're so grateful.
the writing always takes a backseat to the artwork in big bangs, and i'm just really tired of it. it's not just my experiences i'm talking about, but also that of many, many writers i've spoken to.
the big bang i'm in right now has to scramble last minute for artists, but the writers had to submit check-ins with links to documents every few weeks. did artists have this scrutiny? judging from the event discord, no. they can drop out without a care in the world leaving writers in the lurch. again, i'm talking about the experiences of many writers. and as a writer that busts my ass to do the work, to create beautiful work, it's just so annoying and tiring.
i love artwork, and fandom artwork, but people need to realize that writing is just as important as artwork not just in big bangs, but in fandom in general.
