The Percy Jackson fandom is getting worse

All right I've held my tounge long enough.

This fandom is the reason I joined Tumblr, it helped me accept my neurodivergence and queerness. It's opened me up to new content and hobbies, but I can't with this anymore.

I realize I'm getting older and that the target age range for the fandom is 8-14. But the rhetoric I've been seeing is not only alarming but I genuinely don't think people are comprehending what they're reading or watching.

I've seen so many "maturing is realizing Luke was right" posts that I'm actually sad. (He wasn't right, that's the reason why he's a foil to Percy and also why he's an antagonist, not a villain. His motivations were reasonable, his actions were not).

I've seen more and more of this fandom try to justify age gaps in relationships and things that would be genuine incest or illegal (and not in the ao3 shitpost way I mean calling older fandom members bullies for being like "hey this isn't ok and here's why")

So many people just straight up denying cannon and arguing with people when they correct them (and again it's not to ruin people's headcannons and whatnot, people are trying to analyze a story and missing key points)

Hating on headcannons that are older than some of the books, and that most of the fandom has killed discourse on.

Re-starting the Leah hate train.

Grown ass adults simping over Walker.

People refusing to hear any critique on these new books Rick is publishing because Will and Nico are in it.

Being angry at content that doesn't have Will or Nico and telling artists they should be added in.

Hating on the baseline aspects of the fandom (like the persassy jokes, or the memes, or the Nico Mcdonalds thing, harmless stuff that can get annoying but isn't really hurting anything)

And I'm just disappointed and frankly a little disgusted. I don't know if it is because a lot of the fandom is younger now and hasn't learned proper fandom etiquette or if things are genuinely getting worse. But this community is just falling off the deep end in my opinion and it's making me really sad.

kinda excited for skz to do their military service because since bts came back, army's seem to have gotten a fandom cleanse; like the toxic fans got bored. but i am worried abt chan and felix, cuz toxic stays might focus everything towards them (unless the go on a silent hiatus out of the public eye)

But Jungwon has been nothing but a fucking sweetheart to engenes, he's constantly updating us, constantly posting content for our enjoyment, constantly doing his job as an idol

But some ungrateful 'fans' are now hating on him, for a rumor based of off there i say bullshit proof, like photos that are so blurry that it could be anyone(lemme tell you if you took those 'proof' to court, a good judge will laugh in your face and kick you out, that's how shitty they are), and proof from crazy individuals detailing how they stalked him.

Like instead of coming together worried about his privacy being so disgustingly violated, there r ppl, screaming and shouting at Jungwon??

Same on winter's side, i have seen the clips from that aespa fan meeting, where these 'fans' were screaming and cursing at her. over a rumor that if you had common sense you could see are false.

I don't think these people are really fans, these individuals are just people jumping on an opportunity to hate, and be vicious. I saw the email template they were planning to send to hybe, and it's just filled with stupid delusions.

Jungwon has admitted that he isn't in a relationship (even if he was, he is 20, who gives a shit) and these people have deluded them selves that he is, because of proof thaf can soo easily be disproven.

Kpop idol's mental health is so important, from torturous trainee life, to torturous idol life, Multiple idols have passed, because of crazy insane stupid rumors, that ruined their mental health. Yet, to this day so many people don't feel shame when they toy with an idols mental health like this.

And if something awful does happen, which i fucking pray not, these people will be the loudest about mental health. Please remember that idols are HUMANS not things or property. Jungwon has been so mentally strong, but i don't know how he's actually doing bts, as a my and engene, this situation is hurting my eyes.

If u r one of the insane individuals still angry at this, plss plss leave, i promise Jungwon and enha wouldn't care about losing 'fans' like you. Jungwon has said, on camera, by himself, that he's not dating, and you still delude yourself to thinking he is because???

It just seems like you have nothing fun or special going on in your life, please go hang out with family and friends, if you don't have friends make some, get a job, get a more productive hobby, go to the gym and do some boxing, since you are so desperate to let out rage. You say you love enhypen, yet you are so quick to treating them like this, because you lack respect not only for yourself, but for him.

we are going into 2025, a stranger, which is what jungwon is to all of us at the end of the day, dating, should not, and I repeat should not get you THIS riled up, you're mad at a human for falling in love?

And if you believe idols shouldn't date still, i better not see you dating either, cause by your logic, you also belong to said idol, and you dating is also a betrayal, you should also lose your job and everything you've worked hard for. You see how dumb you sound?? if not i really pity you, cause there is something insanely wrong with you.

Therapy is expensive, but human connection is mostly free, if you had friends, a job and a life to look forward to, you wouldn't care so much about this.

Parasocial relationships at the end of the day are not real, jungwon isn't really your friend, your boyfriend or your husband, he's a guy doing his job, being a singer, dancing and making music. your role as a fan, is to support him, so no he doesnt owe you any more than what he's given you(making good songs, dancing, concerts, albums/ the lives, photos and content r extras for your entertainment, he doesn't have to do that either if he doesn't want to, but he does(a lot),so shut up and know your place). he is a person, a human, and like yunjin said, an idol doesn't mean a dol(l) to fuck with.

And then the entire comment section was just like "oh yeah, it makes me cringe, I have to stop reading."

And I really have to ask

WHERE THE FUCK DID Y'ALL COME FROM?!

Like genuinely, people are wondering why fandom feels so lackluster and laborious now, it's because people who are not here for the right reasons keep invading these spaces.

And no, this isn't just about having a daddy k!nk, I don't even have a daddy k!nk. But if that's where you draw the line, if that's too weird for you, genuinely, why are you on Tumblr or in creative fandom spaces in general?

I agree more often than not, a lot of elements of smut (especially from younger writers, which I can usually tell and then avoid) are cringy. But it's SUPPOSED TO BE that's the point!

It's not professional, it's not perfect, and more often than not, you laugh more than you actually get turned on. That's part of the fun.

So many old creators are just quitting or becoming bitter, and I honestly see why.

I know people hate it, but we really need to start gatekeeping again. I love TikTok as much as the next dopamine addict, but it did irreparable damage to the fandom community by broadcasting it to people who realistically would never be in these spaces to begin with.

Fandom is for the freaks.

Fandom is for the punks, emos, goths, and grunge.

Fandom is for the queers.

Fandom is for the disabled.

Fandom is for the creatives.

Fandom is for the disinfranchised.

Fandom is for the researchers.

Fandom is for nuance, compassion , critique, and community.

It's not for conservative, puritan, judgmental, ableist, anti-intellectual bullies.
