A short story comprised of a single scene
Plot: General and/or singular to one event/situation
Format: ‘Drabble’ + Situation + Character
Example: Sherlock wanders upon an eavesdropping barista who listens in on his and John’s conversation on the current case. She then states something that ends up solving the whole case and Sherlock is in awe at who this girl is
A collection of drabbles, each directed at a different character (between 3-6 characters), and describing their various reactions to the same situation with the reader
Plot: A simple, singular event/situation
Length: 100 - 500 words per character (overall 300 - 3k)
Format: ‘Preference’ + General Plot + Characters (Minimum 3; Maximum 6)
Example: Preference of the Salvatore brothers and Elijah’s reaction to the reader being hurt
Short stories prompted by a piece of dialogue, quote, or lyric
Plot: Simple, yet more detailed with the prompt
Format: ‘Prompt’ (Minimum 1; Maximum 3) + General Plot + Character
Example: Prompt for George Weasley with number 3 and 6
A story with more of a plot comprising a beginning, climax, and conclusion
Plot: Greater detail and more substance
Format: ‘Fic’ + Detailed Plot + Character
Example: Fic with the 11th Doctor where the reader gets sick with some alien disease on one of their adventures. The Doctor is frantic to find a cure and takes care of the reader, lots of angst but with a fluffy ending!

A lengthy story that provides more backstory and chance for a suspenseful/detailed plot
Plot: Extremely detailed with much more substance and surrounding specifics
Format: ‘Oneshot’ + Detailed Plot + Character
Example: Oneshot with Bucky Barnes where he’s brought back to the Avengers compound and the reader is in charge of befriending him. Steve tells the reader to take it slow and she does so, visiting his room and bringing meals, reading books, and offering things to do. She later gets relocated and finds out that Bucky is distraught over her being gone. Steve takes Bucky to see her wherever she’s at and even sets them up on a little date where Bucky tries to relay the feelings he has for her, begging her to come back to Avengers HQ

A lengthy, multi-part story that provides more backstory and a chance for a suspenseful/detailed plot
Plot: Extremely detailed with much more substance spread over multiple parts, typically 2 to 3
Length: 8k - 21k (spread over 2 to 3 parts)
Format: ‘Multishot’ + Detailed Plot + Suggested Number of Parts + Character
Example: Multishot with Samwise Gamgee and maybe 2 or 3 parts? The reader is a forester hobbit that lives in the Old Forest and great friends with the main quartet of hobbits. She’s Frodo’s cousin and consequently hangs around Sam, Merry, and Pippin when she visits the Shire - the other hobbits don’t like her for her peculiarities. When she spots them fleeing to Bree she decides to follow and takes care of them before Aragorn shows up. In another part, she hangs around merry and pippin more than the others because they can make her laugh. But secretly Sam has a massive crush on her and is totally jealous. Maybe that part will be over the journey to Rivendell and what they do there. She and Sam could bond over Frodo being hurt by the Ring Wraiths. And then there could be a third part where Sam and the reader are flirting in Lorien and Galadriel mentions something about it and the journey the Anduin, the reader hating big rivers. When everything goes down and the Fellowship is separated, she tells Sam that he needs to go with Frodo because he can’t worry about two people while on this journey. It’s angsty and cute and maybe the share a kiss?
