What is a fest?
A fest is an event where people submit prompts related to a certain theme and/or claim which prompt they’d like to write about or draw. At the end, all the writing and art is revealed on AO3.
What’s the theme?
Trans characters in Dragon Age — anything about them.
Do nonbinary/genderqueer characters count as trans?
Of course! That’s who the white stripe on the trans flag is for, y’know. This event is for all non-cis characters and creators.
I’m cis. Can I participate?
Sure, as long as you’re respectful and have done your research.
How do I participate?
Provide your email address in one of the forms and/or join the Discord if you’d rather be pinged there. (You’re not required to do both, but you do have to pick one of those options.)
Make sure you have an AO3 account, because that is where works will be posted.
Submit prompts via this form.
Claim 3 prompts via this form. You will receive an email or Discord DM confirming which prompts you have claimed.
You create something based on your prompt.
Post your work to AO3, and make sure that you post it to the Trans Thedas Fest 26 collection.
What do I need to write for a prompt?
You can be as vague as “something about [character name],” or as elaborate as you like. But try to be detailed enough to give writers/artists something to work with.
What characters can I write/draw/write prompts about?
Any of them, as long as the focus of the work is on a trans character—one of the canonically trans characters (such as Taash, Maevaris, Krem, etc.), a trans OC, or a canon character that you headcanon as trans.
(However, please consider creating something for one of the canonically trans characters first, especially Taash. There were no works about them last year, which is really a shame, because Veilguard having the first nonbinary companion is a big part of what inspired the mod to create this fest!)
Prompts requesting works centered on/from the POV of cis characters will not be accepted, as Trans Thedas Fest is focused on trans characters and their perspectives, not their cis partners/family/etc.
Can I submit prompts if I'm not going to claim one? / Can I claim a prompt if I haven't submitted any?
Yes. Doing both is preferable, but any type of participation is welcome!
What are the requirements for what I create?
Fic: at least 500 words (no maximum word count)
Art: completed line art
Use of generative AI is not allowed.
Fanfic should be standalone, not part of a series.
Make sure it’s rated and tagged appropriately.
Please wait to post your pieces on social media until after they have been revealed on AO3.
Do I need to fill all 3 prompts I've claimed?
No, filling more than one is totally optional!
Where is the 2026 AO3 collection?
Here!
Where is last year’s AO3 collection?
Here!
When does the AO3 collection open?
March 23.
Who are you?
I’m JJ (they/them). My main blog is @lordlaidir and my AO3 is undeadpirate.
I have other questions! How do I get in touch?
You can send an email to [email protected], DM the mod here on tumblr, or send an ask. If you join the Discord server, you can also ask in the #questions channel.
And the prompt list for the 10 year vld anniversary is officially live!!
What is it? A month long event celebrating the 10 year anniversary of Netflix's Voltron Legendary Defender
When is it? The Fest will be hosted from May 12th to June 10th 2026, so it'll be held over 30 days
How can I participate? By creating fanworks based on the prompt list, this can range from just doing one or two prompts over just doing the golden or going all out and completing the whole list
What are those golden days anyways? Those are prompts focusing on you and your relationship to the show. Feel free to use them to highlight your fav aspects or to chat about them
Okay but how do I get my work linked to the event? By either @-ing us directly or using the #vldtenyearanniversaryfestday[current date]. There'll also be an AO3 collection and a discord channel (both will be linked once available)
So our rules:
and most importantly we're all here to have fun so please understand that the rules are a way to ensure that
This is an open to all Fest we will not be tolerating bullying for any reason be it ships/headcanons/whatever. There is no except fors or buts in this, this is a multiship friendly event
The use of LLMs ("Gen AI") is strictly prohibited for this event
Please be sure to tag content warnings if they apply uncensored, so people's personal dashboard curation actually works
The In-Universe Unusual Formats & Media Prompt Fest Theme Days
The prompt fest takes place November 9 through November 22, 2025. The event features themed days alternating between prompts for unusual fanwork formats and unusual fanwork media, with a free/rest/catch up day halfway through. The themes include examples, but these are not intended to be limiting/exclusive options for fills. Each day also includes two alternative prompts that tangent the theme.
Rules for participating are posted HERE. Add your fills to the InUniverseFest_2025 Collection HERE.
Images above are split up so you can click for a larger version to read easier. Plain text and more detailed descriptions of the themes and alternates below the cut!
Day 1 is an unusual format theme day. To fill today's prompt, make or rec & review a fanwork that consists primarily or entirely of communication between characters. The provided "System Commands" alternate option gives some inspiration for an added twist about who or what might constitute a character that can be conversed with. The other alternate gives the option to stick with a more traditional format, but take your inspiration directly from an exact line or lines of canonical dialogue.
Day 2: It's On Sight
Visual Media
Comics | Collage | AMVs | Video Performance & Essays | Fansite | Photography | Flipbooks & Animation
ALT: Using or Featuring Sign Language | Fancasting
Day 2 is an unusual medium theme day. To fill today's prompt, create a piece of visual fanwork. This can be the more typical fanart of course, but this event in particular would love to see rarer works of visual fanwork! For your first alternate, you can again stick to more traditional prose fanfiction provided your fic features the use of Sign Language as a main component. Your other alternate is to make a fancast of your chosen fandom. You can fancast something that doesn't have a cast, or recast something that does. For an added challenge, make a fake IMDb screenshot to show off your cast!
Day 3: So There I Was…
First Person Accounts
Diary Entries | Captain's Logs | Self-Narration | Autobiography | Today I Learned.../Am I The Asshole? | Author Insert
ALT: Hourly Snapshot/Day in the Life | Trackers (ex: Swear Jar, __ Days Since __)
Day 3 is an unusual format theme day. To fill today's prompt, make or rec & review a fanwork that necessarily must be in first person point of view. For this theme, you can also do an otherwise traditional self-insert -- just make sure that shit is as self-indulgent as you can possibly make it! It should be abundantly clear that the point of view character is you, or an idealized version of yourself, or whatever. No generic, widely consumable, easily-projected over MCs here! The first alternate is like the hourly comic challenge. Put a time stamp and a quick sketch or a line or two of text summarizing what your chosen character did that hour. The other alternate is trackers such as swear jars, [blank] days since [blank], etc. You can physically make a tracker like this, or you can make or rec & review a fanwork that features one as a main component.
Day 4: Are You Hearing This Shit?
Audio Media
Music | Poetry/Lyrics | Fanmixes/Playlists | Podfic | Audio Plays
ALT: Using or Featuring Conlang | Script Format
Day 4 is an unusual medium theme day. To fill today's prompt, make an audio/aural fanwork. Write music, poetry, lyrics, or record yourself performing those. Make a fanmix or fannishly themed playlist, record a podfic, or write/record an audio play. For your first alternate, you can demonstrate your own fluency in a constructed language, or make or rec & review a fanwork that features conlang(s) as a main component. For the second alternate, write a fanfic in script format.
Day 5: Stay Gold, Ponyboy
The Outsiders
Personal Ads | Outsider POV | OC-Centric | Crossovers & Isekai | Breaking the Fourth Wall
ALT: Environmental Storytelling | Fandom of a Friend
Day 5 is an unusual format theme day. To fill today's prompt, make or rec & review a fanwork that is all about outsider characters. For the first alternate option of "Environmental Storytelling" you can use any media you want to accomplish the effect. To fill the "Fandom of a Friend" alternate prompt, make yourself the outsider! Choose a fandom that one of your friends/mutuals is into that you haven't directly experienced the source material of, and make the best fanwork you can manage with only secondhand knowledge.
Day 6 is an unusual medium theme day. To fill today's prompt, make an edible -- or at least taste-able -- fanwork. You can make a real-world recipe that is inspired by your fandom, or write a recipe or cookbook of foods that only exist within the fictional universe in question. The first alternate is to write or record a drunk (or otherwise impaired via ingested substance) review, or an in-universe version of Drunk History, etc. The second alternate is to make or rec & review a more traditional fanwork that is heavily focused on food (or taste/flavor, even if it's not food).
Day 7: And On The Seventh Day…
Rest Day
Use today to take a break, catch up, or share and celebrate what has been posted so far.
Day 8: Everyone is A Main Character
Social Media
Tumblr Dash Simulation | Instagram Pages | In-Universe Live Reactions | In-Universe Discourse | TikTok Videos/Transcripts
ALT: Ask Blog/Fictional Account Takeover | Not Your Friend's Fandom
Day 8 is an unusual format theme day. To fill today's prompt, make or rec & review a fanwork that uses social media as a main component or that features conflicts/mechanics/etc that can only exist alongside social media. For an alternate option, create a roleplaying ask blog (ex: ask-holmes, where you answer asks in character as Sherlock Holmes) or roleplay an account takeover by your chosen character. To fill the "Not Your Friend's Fandom" prompt, make or rec & review a fanwork for a fandom you're into that none (or comparatively few) of your friends/mutuals are also into.
Day 9: Hands-On Experience
Physical Media
Sculpture | Textiles | Cosplay | Book Binding | Jewelry | TTRPG Figures & Sets | Dance/Choreography | LARPing & Reenactment
ALT: Stage a Scene Using Items/Merch | No Dialogue
Day 9 is an unusual medium theme day. To fill today's prompt, create a tactile fanwork. Dance here includes dancing without structured choreography, and choreography includes dance steps as well as fight choreography and other movement direction. For the alternates stage and photograph/record a scene from canon using household objects, or make/rec & review a more traditional fanwork that has no dialogue in it.
Day 10: Whatever or Whoever He Is
In-Universe Fame
Celebrity Gossip | Tabloid Cover/Article | Paparazzi Encounters | Entertainment | In-Universe Fan Content | Reader Insert
ALT: Genre-bending | Expectation vs Reality
Day 10 is an unusual format theme day. To fill today's prompt, create or rec & review a fanwork consisting primarily or entirely of the publicity around characters who are (in)famous within their own universes. For today, you can also make or rec & review reader-insert fics. These should be the opposite of the author-inserts: second person point of view, and with an MC as universal as possible. The first alternate is to create a remake of your chosen source material as if it was a different genre, or write a Netflix description/critic's review style summary of such a remake. The second alternate is to make an "Expectation vs Reality" meme, comic, or another kind of fanwork with that general setup.
Day 11: Prince of The Land of Stench!
Olfactory Media
Perfumes & Colognes | Candles | Bath Products | Potpourri
ALT: YA Scent Profile | Follow the Scent
Day 11 is an unusual medium theme day. To fill today's prompt, create a fanwork that stinks -- literally. You can physically make your smelly items, or just list the ingredients you'd use for fragrance if you did make them. For your first alternate, write a drabble about your chosen character(s) describing how they smell using the format "[food item], [natural phenomenon], and something uniquely [character]". Fill the "Follow the Scent" prompt by making or reccing & reviewing a fanwork in which a character solves a mystery, finds or recognizes someone, something, or someplace, or otherwise saves the day using their sense of smell.
Day 12: A Study in Werewolf Transgenderism
In-Universe Nonfiction
News, Ads, & Propaganda | Tutorials & Advice | True Crime & Conspiracy | Academia | Incident Reports | History | Law
ALT: Lore, Data Analysis, & Meta | Two Truths and A Lie
Day 12 is an unusual format theme day. To fill today's prompt, make or rec & review a fanwork that consists primarily or entirely of in-universe nonfiction. Alternatively, share your own nonfiction fandom work collecting or analyzing lore/data or write/share some meta/interpretation. To fill the "Two Truths and A Lie" prompt, make an interactive post where viewers can vote on which provided option about your chosen source material, fandom, fanwork(s), etc is untrue.
Day 13: Now For Something Completely Different
Misc & Mix It Up Day
Multimedia | Games & Challenges | Technological Creations | Roleplay & Round Robin | Fic Remix/Fanwork of a Fanwork
ALT: Off Fanon Model | Character/Trope Roulette
Day 13 is a whatever-goes day, and can count toward either completion award! To fill today's prompt, make or rec & review a fanwork that uhh... is any of that shit. Games could be board games, could be drinking games. Tech could be apps, extensions, video game patches/skins, fansites, bots, girl I don't know. A fic remix is when you put a (respectful) spin on someone else's already-written fic, such as writing it from a different character's point of view or writing an "extended version". Other "fanwork of fanwork" would be like fic written for art/art drawn for fic, fic sequels, etc. To fill the "Off Fanon Model" prompt, make or rec & review a fanwork that goes against a non-canon detail that is pervasively present in other fanwork. To fill the "Trope Roulette" prompt, find or make a roulette wheel of fic tropes or of your chosen source material's characters, spin it, and make or rec & review a fanwork that features you got as a main component, even -- in fact, especially -- if it's a trope or character that you usually don't fuck with.
Day 14: Sharing is Caring
Rec Lists
Fic Recs/Reviews | Art Recs/Recs Gallery | Fanvid Playlists | Themed Masterlists | Follow Forevers | Creator Spotlight
ALT: Comment On & Share Other Participants' Works
Day 14 is the final day, and can count toward either completion award! To fill today's prompt, make a rec list or write a detailed review/recommendation. Your rec(s) can be for fics, art, videos, creators, or even other fans. Make a masterlist or a collection on a theme, spotlight your favorite AO3 author, make a powerpoint presentation about why everyone should play the cool game you found on itch, or gas up the weird artist you follow on bandcamp. The only alternate for today is to share and leave a comment on the works other participants have posted for this event.
Rules for participating are posted HERE. Add your fills to the InUniverseFest_2025 Collection HERE.
Largely inspired by @nomorezerocomments & @justleaveacommentfest.
As of this moment there are 68,344 fics on Ao3 in the Merlin fandom tag, and 9,741 of those have 0 comments, some which have hundreds and hundreds of kudos and even bookmarks but no comments.
There's plenty more that only have a few comments and yet are beloved by fandom. And this is just from a quick glance at ao3, I'm not even counting fanfiction.net, LiveJournal, here on Tumblr, and all the other fanfic places I'm not thinking of right now!
The goal of this is to (of course) comment on fanfic but also to interact with the community. Reblog fanfic, fanart, fan videos, edit, and all the other lovely things each other has made, as well checking up on fandom friends and just have a good time with each other.
And after all with the holiday season upon us, comments are the best gift to the fellow people in the community!
When will it start:
October 1!
When will it end:
January 10! So that it hopefully covers most of the holiday season for everyone!
Rules:
Comment on any Merlin fandom fanfic and tally up your comments!
Everyone is in charge of keeping track of the fics you commented on and how many comments you've left. This will work on the honor system as this is supposed to be as laid back as possible.
Show love to those fanfics that have 0 comments or barely any comments at all!
Show love to short fics/one shots, rare pairs, Gen fics, comment on those smutty fics that you never comment on!
No check in's, no sign ups, just commenting!
No AI fics! No AI comments! No AI at all!
What do I win:
The fandom old prize of Bragging Rights and having fun with your Community
But also if anyone wants to offer any fan creations as a prize incentive, I can throw some in for some extra fun 😃
Extra things to do:
Make a rec list of your favorite fanfics and/or the fics you've commented on and tag me in it so we can share them!
Send/tag me in your fics that you think deserve some more love
Send/tag me those fics that have 0 comments and let's work as a fandom to decrease those 9,000+ fanfics without any love
Any questions suggestions about anything? Send me a ask!!!
Pod-together is a fandom fest where writers and podficcers create together—the writer creating text specifically intended for audio, and the podficcer creating the audio. If that sounds fun to you, sign-ups are open until June 13th! You can find instructions to sign up, rules, and FAQ at the dreamwidth site linked in our bio.
Sign-ups come in two flavors. If you would like the mods to match you with someone with similar fandom interests, sign up for Matchmaker Sign-Ups. If you would like to sign up with a partner, we also have Group Sign-Ups.
Writing is due July 26th, and podfic is due August 23rd. The minimum length for pod-together projects is 1000 words or 10 minutes of audio.
This is our 16th year running this challenge, and participants usually have a ton of fun and create amazing stuff, with everything from the typical style of fannish stories to submissions with filk, poetry, found footage/audio drama, sound effects, massive multi-voice collaborations, full-cast musicals, immersive soundscapes, playable games, and multiple languages.
If you’re on the fence and have questions, or want to try to scout a group before signing up, we have a section of our Discord open just for that. You can find a link to the Discord in the sign-up post on our dreamwidth!
Visit the Dreamwidth linked in our bio for more details!
Well, perhaps you will be. (But if you'd like some entertainment now, check out the amazing works from last year's COTTA!)
And hey, if you're inspired, we'd love it if you joined in! There's no sign up, just open posting for anyone who wants to throw the Carry On crew into history. Just post something on Tumblr and/or AO3 during the posting period Oct. 19-25, and tag us!
Questions? Check out our FAQ. Discord? Yup, we got it. Anything else? Feel free to ask!
A low-stress Williams RPF fest to end the year! Let’s celebrate another season of the highs and lows of Williams Racing with the best present: ✨RPF ✨
Read the rules and FAQs below + sign up for the AO3 collection!
Rules:
You must be over 18 years old.
You must claim a prompt to participate. There is a wildcard prompt you can claim if you don’t plan on fulfilling a specific prompt.
Prompts and submissions must be about current members of Williams Racing. Primary ships must contain exclusively Williams team members from this season. For example, works featuring Alex Albon/Carlos Sainz Jr or Carlos Sainz Jr/Pierluigi Della Bona are allowed, but not Carlos Sainz Jr/Charles Leclerc or Alex Albon/Franco Colapinto.
Gen fic and art are welcome as long as the focus is on Williams!
There is no minimum word count for fics or an equivalent requirement for art. We recognize that people are tired and want to make the fest accessible for everyone to participate!
No content is off limits - but tag and rate it appropriately.
When submitting works, make sure they are locked!
Submit your works on time - the deadline is 22 December at 14:00 Pacific Standard Time.
FAQs:
What are the timelines?
Works are due on 22 December at 14:00 Pacific Standard Time
The collection will be revealed on 25 December at 14:00 Pacific Standard Time
What is the scope of the fest?
Fics and art should focus on current Williams team members. If the work has a ship, ship characters should be current Williams members (e.g. James Vowles/Alex Albon, Carlos Sainz Jr/Pierluigi Della Bona)
Can I submit a work that includes characters from outside Williams?
The primary focus of the work should be on Williams members, but side characters can be from other teams. For example, if the main ship of the work exclusively features Williams team members, side and background ships can contain non-Williams characters.
Are works including WAGs like Lily Muni He and Rebecca Donaldson allowed?
Yes, since they're very much part of the Williams group.
Is there a min word count for fics or a standard for art?
Nope! We recognize that people are tired and want to make the fest accessible for everyone to participate!
Can I submit gen works?
Yes! As long as the focus of the work is about Williams members.
Can I still participate if I'm making art/graphics and prefer to post them directly on Tumblr instead of AO3?
Yes! Please contact us and we'll plan to reblog your work when the works are revealed.
What if I have a question that has not been answered here?
