Can't believe the spy Tommy theory is so real that all of his fans magically also became spies and decided to infiltrate the fandom metrics blog to get bucktommy to number one
Because what else would we do with our spy skills
JAZZ/PROWL TOP 10 TAGS
Focusing on this ship - the popularity of which is definitely due to a prolonged and concentrated effort of undiluted witchcraft - I’ll now be sharing with you the Top Ten Tags:
Above is a pie chart divided into uneven chunks of colorful tag related data.
Fluff - 316, holding on to the top spot by a singular instance.
Sticky Sex - 315, not in the top spot despite the efforts of so many.
Alternate Universe - 278, surprisingly not higher on the list.
Angst - 198, should probably also be higher, all things considered.
Humor - 115, surprising and confusing all at once.
Transformers Sparkling - 108, this should definitely be a higher number than it is.
Hurt/Comfort - 106, appropriate.
Mech Preg - 91, I guess some of these are multiple births given the higher number in the Sparkling tag.
Spark Sexual Interfacing - 91, putting on a sarcastic voice here to say um, actually it’s called merging.
Romance - 89, I guess this means most of the J/P fics are PWP, which is not surprising in the least.
Anyways, for those curious, this ship is one of the three remaining holdovers in popularity that originated from G1. It was originally a crack!ship AKA a joke pairing, as these characters did not have much to do with each other or even interact at all in the original show.
Their personalities and dynamics with each other are almost entirely Fanon constructed. I say almost because there’s a few facets that can be reasonably extrapolated from their initial bios regarding their jobs and positions within the Autobot Ranks. These Fanon Depictions of them have had somewhat of an influence on more recent depictions of the characters in official media such as TFA and maybe the IDW comics. I’m not one hundred percent certain on the latter one, as I recall seeing a lot of Prowl but not a whole lot of Jazz throughout the IDW-1 run.
Either way, it’s definitely some dedicated witchcraft to keep this ship running strong and props to those orchestrating it. You are both awe inspiring and somewhat terrifying.
Jumping back on my academic fan work thoughts, I'm curious as to whether transformative works have had any kind of economic effect on the original content.
Have there truly been sales taken from the original content by people who would rather stick to fanfiction?
Or has original content won more sales because fans found it through fanfiction of other works?
I'd be really curious to find out. Pretty sure I found Criminal Minds through an NCIS xover fic.
Has anyone else discovered a new fave through fandom? For the purposes of this study, I think we'll limit the focus to fanfiction, for Anne Rice rebuttal purposes. I think the data of those following gay ships thru tumblr gifs would skew the results.
Hi!!! I just wanted to know, what is the kuwabara survey for? I already did mine but j just wanted to know :)
Hello, anon! Thanks for the question and for filling it out! It means a lot to me!
As for what it is for, I know some people don’t use Tumblr on laptop/desktop, so it doesn’t always show the link description which is this:
I created a survey to see what the demographics of Kuwabara fans are like and their opinions on things like Kuwabara as a character, shipping, and more!
As a fan of fandom studies, I love seeing data and analyses about fandom. Sometimes the data pulled from it show you trends or information you didn’t know about fandom, even if you’ve been a long term fan.
For example, using the data in my survey, I could have the ability to tell the general age of the average Kuwabara fan or the top ships that people have that contain Kuwabara in it.
To take that further, let’s say I want to see who he gets shipped with the most. Now I got enough data to make an infographic about it:
You can see, obviously, most people ship him with Yukina. And then, no surprise the next is Yusuke. According to this, here are the top 4 ships:
Yukina
Yusuke
Kurama
Hiei
As stated before, Yukina is pretty obvious. And Yusuke is somewhat obvious too, considering their emotional friendship scenes in the series.
For people who have been in YYH fandom for nearly a decade, seeing Kurama as third would be surprising. It’s a rarepair (still is) but roughly around 2014-ish, Kurama as a love interest for Kuwabara was on the rise due to a surge of creators (fic writers and artists) which garnered many fans for the ship as a result. Prior to that, finding Kurama & Kuwabara romantically was very rare and most fans knew of each other or were actually friends.
In fact, I would say, at one point, Hiei & Kuwabara were a more popular pairing than Kurama & Kuwabara, though not as much today. (This ship’s fandom had its heyday years ago but as long as creators keep making things and inspiring new makers and fans, anything is possible.)
What’s very interesting is that in the data presented, we can’t ignore original character (OC) ships. They make the next tier ranking. Actually, if you put the OC categories together, it’s a pretty significant number.
According to the data so far, the percentages as follows: Yukina (31%), Yusuke (22%), Kurama (16%), Hiei (11%).
All three OC ship categories add up to 8 percent. 8!! That’s almost close to the same amount of people who ship him with Hiei!
And despite the fact there’s virtually no reader insert stories or stories with OC’s shipped romantically for Kuwabara (there are a few but it’s nothing to the number of fanworks for any of the other top 4 ships), this shows there’s a significant amount of interest for these kinds of works.
So basically, anon, it’s for reasons like being able to see the compiled data and while analyzing it, finding out interesting conclusions, why I made the thing. It’s fun and interesting (to me).
Of course, anyone who wants to take the survey can do so here and if you want to promote the survey, I have a promo post here you can spread around.
Thank you for sending this to me, anon! It was fun to answer, though probably longer than you expected of an answer hahaha.
Analysis and data under read more.

Hey Jonsa fam, just a little reminder to tag your fan works and reblogs with #jonsa and #jon x sansa first, along with other great tags as Fandom Metrics keeps track of probably only the two abovementioned.
If I remember correctly, the Jonsa ship was in the top 20 of ships on Tumblr in July and most recently the J0n€r¥$ ship is gaining on us and fast (no surprises why..), so don’t forget to tag - we need to show our love for Jonsa as much as we can!

TRANSFORMERS FANDOM METRICS 2021
Last year I pulled data from AO3 and compiled some charts for various Transformers Ships based off popularity. This year, I’m looking at the Top 10 - specifically comparing the Top Ten from last year to the Top Ten for this year. So let’s have a look!
Last year’s data was pulled 12/17/2020. Above is a pie chart portraying data from the Top Ten Transformers Ships on AO3.
On 12/17/2020 the Top Ten were as follows:
Jazz/Prowl - 1850
Megatron/Optimus - 1518
Megatron/Starscream - 1261
Drift/Ratchet - 809
Cyclonus/Tailgate - 614
Breakdown/Knockout - 613
Jetfire(Skyfire)/Starscream - 551
Optimus/Ratchet - 472
Sideswipe/Sunstreaker - 400
Megatron/Orion - 367
On to 2021!
This year’s data is pulled 10/18/2021. The Top Four ships remain the same.
Jazz/Prowl - 2349, increasing by 26.97%
Megatron/Optimus - 1779, increasing by 17.19%
Megatron/Starscream - 1479, increasing by 17.28%
Drift/Ratchet - 1125, increasing by 39.06%
Skyfire/Starscream - 747, increasing by 50%, jumping from 7th place to 5th place
Breakdown/Knockout - 772, increasing by 25.93% and retaining 6th place
Cyclonus/Tailgate - 728, increasing by 18.56% but falling from 5th place to 7th
Optimus/Ratchet - 582, increasing by 23.3% and retaining 8th place
Chromedome/Rewind - 505, increasing by 39.05% from last year’s amount of 363 and claiming 9th place
Megatron/Orion - 492, increasing by 34.05% and falling from 9th place to 10th place
The largest increase in number is Skyfire/Starscream, which I attribute to the release of the War for Cybertron show on Netflix. The only ship new to the Top Ten is Chromedome/Rewind and the only ship to be bumped is Sideswipe/Sunstreaker.
In addition to this, I have also compiled the Top Ten Transformers Characters, according to AO3:
Optimus Prime - 9890
Megatron - 9472
Ratchet - 8553
Starscream - 7694
Prowl - 5877
Bumblebee - 5239
Jazz - 4875
Soundwave - 4528
Drift/Deadlock - 3553
Rodimus Prime - 3248
