The Balance of Life and Death
A DP x DC Crossover Prompt
No one remembers when the barrier began to crack. It started small — ghosts whispering in the corners of Gotham, strange lights over Blüdhaven, and the dead refusing to stay that way.
Then came the storms. Green lightning in the sky. Shadows that breathed. And a boy — glowing, quiet, carrying a crown made of starlight and sorrow.
“My name is Danny.”
He said it simply. No threats. No demands. Just truth.
“The balance between life and death is breaking. You’ve let too many live who should’ve passed… and too many die who still had light.”
Batman’s jaw tightened. Wonder Woman’s hand went to her sword. Constantine just muttered, “Bloody hell.”
The Justice League had faced gods, monsters, even time itself — but never something that was both alive and dead.
The Ghost King
Danny Phantom wasn’t supposed to exist in this world. But when the Infinite Realms began bleeding into reality, he came to fix what others couldn’t see. Because death isn’t evil. And life isn’t innocent. They’re partners. And he’s the balance between them.
Jason Todd felt it first — the pulse of something ancient inside him, whispering his second life wasn’t entirely his own. Zatanna saw her spells twist like vines around his energy. And Bruce, for the first time in years, didn’t know whether he was facing a child… or a god.
The Question
What happens when a being who understands both life and death decides the living world has gone too far?
What if mercy, not judgment, is the final reckoning?
