VIXX ‘Fantasy’ Theory: With updated details from the drama version.
Hey starlights! I’ve very carefully tried not to make a theory on the ‘Fantasy’ series for one simple reason - it hurts my brain from thinking too much. But after the release of the drama version, which tbh i was waiting for, somethings tends to fall in place. So here is my version of the story in ‘Fantasy’
So the plot has been described by Ravi in this video, that it’s about a mortal man who goes into the underworld to find his lady love (taken by someone else?).
(Legend #1: Orpheus heads into the Underworld as a mortal to meet with Hades and plead to him, so he can have his wife Eurydice returned to him as her death was too quick and unjust. Aristaeus is usually blamed to have chased after Eurydice and thus killed her too early)
The easiest greek mythology story to attach to this is that of Orpheus and Eurydice (sometimes mentioning Aristaeus as the guy who lead Eurydice to her untimely death). But let’s not attach this to a greek legend for one simple reason - this legend only contains Orpheus, Eurydice and Hades. No more. So that definitely cancels that legend out so let’s just assume VIXX has come up with a story of their own, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun associating the rest of them with others gods yes?
If you follow the fantasy drama version very carefully, then everything can be explained pretty easily, well most of it anyway, because it’s all in chronological order unlike other videos. So let’s begin with the first scene
This, I believe is the forest around the river Acheon, which is one of the rivers that lead into the styx, and also contains a door to the underworld.
Here we see Leo and N, Ravi, Hyuk and Hongbin in the far end. I thought it was Ken at first, because their outfits are similar, but you see later in the scene that it’s Hongbin walking towards N. The only one missing in this scene is Ken, which is why him being Zeus is confirmed. Because if this scene occurs in the Underworld, then Zeus can’t enter it. Therefore, Ken is Zeus
(Legend #2: Zeus and Hades make a plan together to kidnap Persephone into the Underworld using the flower Narcissus (a truly beautiful flower/flower boy/ beautiful person).
The next scene is both Hongbin and Hyuk heading towards N. The difference is that Hyuk gets the invitation (in the art film for Conception, it was an invitation from Zelos himself) so Hyuk gets to N first, while Hongbin hesitates to truly counsel him. Throughout the drama, N is counseled by both Hyuk and Hongbin but Hongbin always somehow loses to Hyuk. Maybe it’s because Leo had married N’s lover first (according to Dynamite) so now N is fueled by envy and therefore, listens more to Hyuk who is Zelos (or is working for Zelos).
The next scene is a sort of dejected and desperate N being counseled again by Hyuk and Hongbin (in a forest of hanging chairs, anyone knows about this legend because i could not get any leads except Busby’s hanging chair). This time, I think the lyrics of the song are a clear indication of Hyuk’s character because he says “I know that it’s over” and “the end of you was me” which leads us to say for sure that Hyuk is definitely voice of envy and self-blame (Zelos) and that just motivates N to go into the underworld from the forest. Hongbin on the other hand often says “Someone help” like a good little watcher-by who signifies free will, that N can decide to take either road, but it must be on his own. I believe Hongbin is Apollo here who is also incidentally Orpheus’s father.
And so, N goes into the Underworld lead by Ken (could Ken be thanatos/Charon who leads N into the Underworld over the river styx?)
And so N makes a deal with Ravi, while Ken shows N the right way to go and Hongbin sits idly, looking extremely disappointed by all of this. Considering that Ravi is at the head of the table, I’d say Ravi is Hades and there has been little debate about that. But Ken, showing N the way and being in the underworld that too at a dinner table raises some questions. Could he be Thanatos for only thanatos knows all the doors of death, and N does walk into a door right after this. Hongbin, looking dejectedly at a mortal’s choices could be Prometheus too for Prometheus was always dejected by how gods played with the mortals, and thus granted them fire in the end.
(Legend #3 Prometheus, who was chained up to a rock as a punishment for fighting with the titans against the war against the titans, later escaped and awarded fire to mankind so they could have some weapons to fight against the gods eventually. Considering his actions were basically blasphemy (to go against the gods) he could have been sent to hell later on)
Then N goes to the door (into the underworld/of death) and Hyuk comes and tries to stop him which puts Hyuk’s identity to a huge question because if he was Zelos truly, then why is he against N entering the door at all? Usually, Zelos was the god of envy but also of triumph thus he supported a just form of jealousy. If we can assume that N is truly entering the underworld to barter Leo’s life with his so he can put the evil eye curse on him, so N gets the girl, then Hyuk (as Zelos) certainly won’t support it. But considering that Hyuk suggests, or his actions suggest, that N take a second look at where he is heading, then we can consider Hyuk as the god of pathways. He is also seen sitting in front of the door in other teasers
Then we see N and Leo heading into some sort of portal, with N heading towards the light but Leo (dressed in white) is heading towards the dark side of things. I think N is bartering Leo’s life and condemning him to the underworld, so N can pursue the girl he loves, who was married to Leo. Here N is wearing dark colours and Leo is wearing light colours.
Do you see Hongbin patiently sitting among the light and waiting for hings to fall into place? That’s why I think he is Apollo. Apollo was not just the god of light, he was also the god of fate and seeing the future (oracle). Hongbin already knows that what N is doing is inevitable and possibly why, he never made much of an effort to persuade him against doing so.
Ken (as Thanatos) watches the souls of Leo and N walking through the forest. The underworld is described as having several rings (According to Inferno by Dante) and so the forest is just one of them. An upturned forest, with raging sand and a rain of fire is actually a place for the blasphemers and those that condemn god (remember how hongbin was in the desert with fire in the art film and then in a fiery room in dynamite - Prometheus was a blasphemer)
So Ken, watches over N and Leo though he already knows what N is going to do to Leo (exchange his soul and put the evil eye on him)
So here we see an image which completely puts the teaser image theory of team Leo vs Team N to the ground because really, everyone is Team N. Or maybe it’s just the gods playing with two mortals (N and Leo) as usual. Ravi is the chief potion maker, as he only looks over the final potion and everyone else is putting in a important element for the potion. This goes with other theories because N could be giving up his life and tying it permanently to Leo’s so that he can have a love potion which makes the girl fall in love with him, instead of Leo. (Is this Jekyll and Hyde all over again???)
Poor innocent Leo is caught and captured for this potion. I think he was lured into the underworld or he is just an innocent dead man.
But instead of just making the love potion, the 4 gods also put an evil eye curse on N that stems naturally from his envy that he has for Leo. The evil eye is a curse that is administered on both the caster and the victim. Therefore, N also has an evil eye and so does Leo. An interesting fact: the evil eye can be cast by admiration instead of jealousy. So did N actually admire Leo from the beginning? Is that why Leo never saw it coming?
Leo trying to cover his evil eye, because he has finally realized what has happened to him
And here, I have two things for you guys to consider. Does it rain in the underworld? (There is a rain of fire in the seventh circle of hell, but it doesn’t look like fire to me where N is standing) so that only means, N got out of the underworld. How? By exchanging Leo’s soul because life for a life. That was always Hades’ deal, even with Orpheus. So while N roams the earth, free to look for his love, Leo is condemned to the underworld and boy, he looks ready for revenge.
and my favourite part that I discovered too late in this drama version.
Masks. In Greek theatre, masks are often used to indicate that one actor could play several roles. That even if the audience personally knew the actor, they should consider them only as their masks. It was a form of changing roles. You know what that means? All of these members - ravi, ken, hongbin and hyuk - play 2 or more characters.
To starlights, it just means headache but you know, we’ll eventually find it in our hearts to love them despite all the pain they cause us.
So what is the next comeback going to be about? Leo’s revenge *maniacal laughter*
I hope this theory helps solve some of the mysteries in your head. I based most of it off of theories other starlights have written especially @90x93 because they are amazing and I admire their theories a lot. Thanks for reading till the end!
