thinking about adaine not really getting to be a kid, spending her childhood studying and keeping up family appearances instead of getting to play pretend.

when she gets the sixteen gifts from jawbone on her birthday sophomore year and sees that some of them are toys she doesn’t really know what to do with them, so the mordred girls all sit on adaine’s bedroom floor and tell her how they played with dolls and figures as kids. they show her examples and eventually she joins in once she gets it and they all just play with the toys she was given, and sure they’re all teenagers who have saved the world twice now, most of them have died and gone through trauma worse than anyone could imagine, but in that moment they’re just kids giggling and creating dramatic stories with little toys, not thinking about all the fucked up things they’ve gone through.

maybe it’s just a silly one time thing, maybe the toys get put away after and they don’t get touched again, or maybe after stressful days it just kinda becomes a reoccurring thing, maybe they bring in the other bad kids and act out ridiculous stories with crazy characters in the form of plastic figures because sure they’re all teenagers and maybe they’d rather drink and go party and get their kisses in but when the fate of the world has rested in your hands so many times escaping to when it was easier is a lot more tempting and fun sometimes.
