woahg… that was certainly an experience..! (positive!!!!!) their use of angles, framing and expressions are elite!!! this isn’t about the art though, so we’ll get into our opinions regarding characterization below.

they’ve really done well to portray grisha’s overwhelming divinity (and at the same time, the part of his humanity that remains not being a very good person either.) the way that he always hovers over people, either towering above or leaning forward to dwarf them; his face always being underlit, others always having to look UP at him…

and of course, this then applies to amon. in what i assume is the comic you wanted us to see, amon and grisha start out looking at eachother at eye level.

this is because amon is under the impression that this is adam, their brother— but once that idea’s revealed to be false, grisha immediately gains the shadows over his eyes that make him look underlit, and amon only ever looks down away from him, or up at him onwards.

the power dynamic here is clear: grisha is not amon’s father, but their superior. this is because one: their parent-child dynamic was already twisted from their abundance of divinity, and two: grisha is the type of person to treat his children that way to begin with. i think it’s very notable how instead of giving us a tender moment between them to back up grisha’s statement that amon is his “precious child,” we get a flashback to amon realizing their attachment to chernobyl was formed out of a desire to please grisha. he has essentially always seen them as a tool, and any feelings of love that he might have for them only goes so far as how important they are to maintaining his own power. it’s a very apt way to sum up their relationship!

(side note: this set of sketches……….. ohg. you have no clue!!!!! how much we’ve drawn something similar to the first one from the left. clutching the robes of your brother’s skin worn by your father.. who exactly do they yearn for?)

one thing we’ve got a bit of a gripe with is the hair. it’s very very very!!!!! important that amon, adam, medici and sasrir all have the same parted bangs. this marks them as brothers, yes, but also marks them as grisha’s children, through the fact that the culturally popular depictions of jesus also had these parted bangs.

to be completely honest we’re still mostly mixed on the work as a whole (the transmisogyny, racist elements, and lack of care towards the female characters (looking at you xio and cattelya. cf should’ve merged cattelya and alger into one woman.)), but it’s great to hear that ppl enjoy the stuff we put out. we like to think that our ideas aren’t very unconventional, since the fandom seems to be of the idea that lotm is a very well polished and deep work with lots of intersecting themes (of which it does, though we’re not too sure how much of that is accidental), so it’s a little surprising that our writeups have been received so well :)
