If you were to assign Ushiromiyas of your choice a pathway (i know it is not like with say a classpect), which ones would you use and why?
there’s a large difference between classpecting and assigning a character a pathway, yeah. classpecting is the act of parsing a character’s function within the narrative & the execution of that function in conjunction with other characters through the way homestuck conceptualizes it. pathways.. are just kind of an aspect of lotm’s worldbuilding that isn’t very much connected to its metanarrative (which is the conversation between western & eastern ideals of agency through power) beyond being manifestations of its smaller themes.
because of this, assigning a pathway is more so ‘which pathway would this character choose to go on given their circumstances, personality, and dynamics with the other person around them? and how would this correlate back to the themes of their character story?’ from that spawns another slew of questions: would they know about the later sequences before drinking the sequence 9 potion? which one would they have access to? would they choose to advance? stuff like that. so these assignments will have those ideas in mind.
we’ll have the ushiromiyas be from the feysac empire, befitting of their patriarchal beliefs & sets up kinzo’s backstory well through the world war. additionally, them being from feysac also allows for the existence of rokkenjima as a hidden private island in the gargas archipelago!
Kinzo: Drank the sequence pathway potions for the Twilight Giant Pathway from S9 to S6 under the requirements of his enlistment. Ascended to S5 through ‘protecting’ Beatrice Castiglioni after settling in Rokkenjima. Failed his S4 Ritual.
Krauss: Came into access with a Sequence 9 Lawyer potion through his connections to M19. Being an idiot with little foresight that he is, however, he doesn’t go any higher because he saw that the S8 Potion is called ‘Barbarian.’
Natsuhi: Isn’t allowed to become a Beyonder.
Jessica: Isn’t allowed to become a Beyonder.
Eva: Technically isn’t allowed to become a Beyonder, but secretly drank the sequence pathway potions for the Black Emperor Pathway from S9 to S7 from the exact same source that Krauss had. Lies about all of the strength increases by saying she does martial arts.
Hideyoshi: Doesn’t want to be a Beyonder.
George: Doesn’t want to become a Beyonder, but is being pestered into it by Eva.
Rudolf: Refused to be a Beyonder.
Kyrie: Inducted into the Psychology Alchemists by Madam Greed so she could be their spy for the other underground organization she’d been working for. Stopped at S7 because she doesn’t want to draw herself too deep within the organization.
Ange: Got introduced to the Black Market by a shady-yet-strangely-convincing dude at an actual mysticism underground market. Ascended through praying to the Uncertain Mist throughout various points in her life, and got to S7 when she decides to go investigate the Rokkenjima Incident. She does not advance any further.
Battler: Is not a Beyonder.
Rosa: Isn’t allowed to be a Beyonder.
Maria: That priest she’d met in the past was a cultist from one of the High-Dimensional Overseer’s Secret Organizations, who informed Maria about “His” Honorific Title and told her to pray to “Him.” The effects of Beyonder Characteristics in such a young body results in some personality changes, which become more visible as she ascends. She’d gotten to S6, as “He” promised she could bring Sakutarou back to life if she did.
Sayo: Heard about the Honorific Title of the Circle of Inevitability through the Fukuin House Director, who’d told them to only pray to “Him” in the most dire of situations. In truth, he was an escapee from one of the organizations that worshipped “Him.” They only prayed to “Him” once when they felt the most isolated by the other servants, but began involving themself in it after 1983. Reached S4 before October during 1986 to be able to enact their mass-murder.
Lion: Refused all offers to become a Beyonder.
