Happy Easter from #farmstreet church #mayfair 1st & 4th Sunday’s 5pm #LGBTQ service - it was here that #oscarwilde continued his conversion to #Catholicism after he came down from #oxford - Oscar Wilde has the perfect quote for our first & only #gay & proud king James I who in 1616 declared when defending himself before the Privy Council regarding “the kings kissing & tumbling of George (Earl of Buckingham) like a man does his wife”. Homosexuality was not a crime in 1616 - until Puritan Dictatorship of #olivercromwell 1649 slaughtered tens of thousands of men & women on his moral pogrom! But KingJames was rightly proud of his love for George & declared “I wish to speak in my own behalf & not to have it thought to be a defect, for Jesus Christ did the same, and therefore I cannot be blamed. Christ had John, & I have George.” King James I (son of #maryqueenofscots ) had relationships with #InigoJones & #SirFrancisBacon but he referred to George as Wife & George called the king Husband. Following his wishes KingCharles buried george Duke of Buckingham together with Queen Anne & his lover King James I in Westminster - as Oscar Wilde said “In Marriage 3 is company 2 is none!” Photography @muirvidler @daniellismore @velveteccentric @blushbashfuluk (at Church of the Immaculate Conception, Farm Street) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bwhp9D-gZ9s/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=18ygwh92brbi5
