tw: abuse and death (homicide) and substance abuse

surface level information: yoo haerin is new to town. only moving here 8 months ago. she was born on june 20, 1997 making her 28 years old. haerin was born with a fatemark, and finds herself hating her parents for passing it on to her. she is unemployed, keeps to herself, and is a major bookworm. haerin tries to avoid social interactions as much as she can, but she frequents a cafe nearby her home to get her daily latte and read a few chapters of whatever book she is currently reading. finding a job is harder than she thought it would be, and finds herself regretting running from her past life....but only sometimes.

why she is here: haerin was born jo areum on september 9, 1997, in a town hours from incheon. she was somehow involved in the death of her partner, choi seungwoo. they had been together for five years, and bonded for two of them. the details of the night of his death are cloudy, but she immediately felt like she was involved as she was with him just hours before his body was found in his apartment. she hired someone to help her form a whole new life. identity, address, and background. every once and a while, her informant will give her details from seungwoo's death investigation. she has a hard time taking in any information when it comes to the one she loved. when she's alone at night, everything comes rushing in at once. their time together, his death, her hands around his throat. . . no..no..that wasn't her...was it? to forget about everything, she finds herself drinking herself to sleep every night.

life as areum: areum was born with the fatemark gene to a couple who were bonded, but hated each other. she was an only child and was mostly raised by her grandmother. the last time she saw either of her parents was when she was a young child. she doesn't remember much about them other than they were always yelling at each other, but refused to part ways. she dreaded the day her fatemark would manifest, fearing she'd end up bonding with someone she couldn't stand. two years after she received her fatemark, she met seungwoo. they didn't hit it off right away, but it wasn't long before they became partners. three years into their relationship, they resonated. they were bonded for two years before his untimely death. areum can't remember much about their relationship these days. she blames it on the trauma of his death, but could it be something deeper that she refuses to see?

rinu (29, he/him, the blue valentine subplot!) and the owner of the rose quarter, and whatever he sees is your business (and also maybe a little his business). he usually deals in secrets and tends to keep pretty tight lipped himself, but crack open that shell and find that hopeless romantic underneath all of that hardened and secretive exterior!

was separated from his younger brother chanhyeon when he was little since his parents put him up for adoption. they couldn't afford taking care of both of them, and rinu was the oldest and ended up becoming the Only

always felt a lot of guilt for being the one his parents "chose" and always told himself he'd go out and find chanhyeon one day

moved away from his parents later and vowed he'd make something of himself not based on a bunch of lies after being told to forget his brother for all of those years (and basically pretend he never existed)

came across the rose quarter, the previous owner passing it down to him when she became too old to manage it anymore. he'd been part of the cleaning service but slowly worked his way up until earning her trust, and has slowly been reforming it over the years

makes money off secrets, who comes in, who comes out. usually he's paid to keep his silence and keep the tabloids away and he's gotten pretty good at it. clientele usually are all over the place, bonded, unbonded, marked, unmarked, he's really seen it all...

the motel has a policy of signing in with an anonymous nickname to keep guest's privacy, often it's the only name he knows regulars by

actually lives at the motel in one of the rooms back behind the main office

there's quite a large cat population around the motel because he keeps feeding them all. catch feeding time around when the sun goes down if you want to get some pets in

is marked and even though deep down he always wishes it would work, all of his resonances have always led nowhere or ended pretty badly. maybe lessons to be learned or moments to pass through life, but every time he hoped it was going somewhere, it never worked out

very hardworking, a good listener, pretty much Lives at work and goes out to Work, which means he's always talking and looking for secrets to deal and trade

plots !!

you're a regular at the rose quarter and yet he only knows you by the nickname you use to sign in every time. he's not sure why you keep coming, but you always end up talking late into the night once you leave your room empty

he knows something about you that you really wish he didn't. you keep trying to leverage something against him, or get some sort of promise to make sure he won't tell

he knows something about you and he wants to know more. whatever you know is worth more than what he knows already, and he'll do anything to make you crack

you both frequent a nearby bar and you've turned into reliable drinking buddies. you even know each others drink order, and sometimes he has it waiting for you when you show up on their usual nights

he's involved himself in your secrets and you traced it right back to the source. there's bad blood there and you keep trying to find a way to make it even

you need a place to stay and so he keeps letting you extend your room. he keeps saying it's not forever, but he's not really kicking you out, either. do a little work around the place and you're set. it seems like he has a bit of a soft spot for someone in a rough place, like he's been there before

you're one of his #1 confidantes. you both trade secrets but ended up enjoying your frequent gossip sessions, and it's something he always finds himself looking forward to

you resonated once but he's still in your phone. he'll show up when you call if you're in a tough place, and time has shown that a one time bond means you have him as a dependable friend for life

you keep showing up and pissing him off, because what you're really there for is to get information on his guests and he sees right through you, but he can't deny you a room, either

he knows you in real life and pretends he Doesn't know you at the motel, which you both keep conveniently ignoring you Both know when you see each other elsewhere...

kim yeji: about / plots / muse

— preset #12: these violent delights

— they/them pronouns by default; around those they're close to, they would be comfortable with he/him pronouns.

— unfated, so has no marking. if they did have one, it would be the color of nausea, #ddffa7.

— in contrast to mirae, yeji is very painfully present in the world. born to a family of no particular importance, with no major lifetime event that could have explained why they eventually turn out the way they do.

— what they do turn out to be: first just a stupid kid with a propensity for recklessness and general lack of self-preservation, growing up into an adult but not quite growing out of all of the other things. yeji is passionately creative and expressive, feeling so closely attuned to living that they can feel just how . . . wrong they feel inside of themselves.

— (cw. themes of depersonalization) does that make sense? it's past any label or identity, past any cosmetic they can slap on or clothes they can take off. sometimes yeji looks down at their hands and their nerves scream that SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THIS but they don't know what is, or what "this" even is. this suffocating feeling always comes when they slow down enough to let it catch up — so yeji tries to never let it.

— none of this really explains the path that they wind up on. "being human is a condition that requires a little anesthesia" — for yeji, it's art at first, and then video games, and then body mods. then street drugs, and then virtual reality, and now this emergent sadistic streak. earlier, you could've reasoned it for them just trying to find distractions, but now it's been tinged by a sense of desperation—like they're trying to assert themselves to some thing, some force, that they can't even put to word .

— by all appearances, yeji has gotten themself together & turned over a new leaf ever since they landed a prestigious gig as a 3d artist @ secondlife studios (prestigious to them, anyway). before this, they were doing freelance design and bolstering that meager income by dealing some crystal hearts; they've "left that behind" now, with a few exceptions (i'd love to have past connections related to this!!).

— their job pays well and they get to make a career out of their passion, isn't that what most people want? still, yeji pushes it. their brother is a programmer, dealing in his own dirty work; together, they develop game-breaking mods for lacuna, allowing yeji to go on little player killing sprees.

— it looks like senseless gamer violence, but in some twisted way, it nags at a deeper craving for intimacy. yeji likes modeling realism the most, as if they can better understand reality if they can replicate it exactly enough. secondlife would never allow them to add blood and viscera into their game. so yeji sticks to mods and private servers, using player avatars as living galleries for their best work. it might be the only time that they feel any sense of fulfillment.

— yeji is def the more sociable of my muses and has a lot of existing friends & enemies both offline and online, but also likely to be the catalyst of new interactions, so let's figure smth out together! my goal with their arc is more straightforward, aka force them to actually face any meaningful consequences of their actions LOL. they've touched a lot of people's lives, not always for the better, so i'd especially love some messy connections!!

i have a few pre-established plots for both of them, but if none of those quite fit, i'm also down to come up with smth new & specific to our muses! i'm also excited enough to write that i'd be down to assume basic connections, start threading, and go off of chem, so lmk if you'd prefer that. ty in advance for reading!!

shin mirae: about / plots / muse

— preset #6: cosmic indifference (sts2 reference....anyone)

— 29 years old & has the fate gene, just hasn't manifested their mark yet. mirae on his own wouldn't have instinctively seen this as a problem, if his parents hadn't treated it like one. however, the family company is all about fatemark/soulmate propaganda, and as the older of the shin heirs (jiho @digitalmemorybook is his younger sibling), he's poised to take over one day; it would shatter the whole delusion of "everyone is fated for love, and fatemarks will help everyone find theirs!" if the new ceo of lovebug bears proof that there's a non-zero chance for fatemarks not to manifest. we need everyone to believe that there's love waiting for them somewhere in the world, his mother has been saying all this time, which leads mirae to wonder from an early age if being mark-less = being love-less right ?

— this could have been a chance for him to come out of this with a healthy skepticism on fatemarks, but their parents make it impossible for him to entirely shed the fantasy, and instead mirae internalizes a confusing contradiction of their ideals and his own coping mechanisms. no of course it can't be the fatemark system itself that's imperfect, he must be uniquely undeserving of one.

— was a smart kid, and full throttled into that as a form of escapism from his family responsibilities (he should've just gotten into vr like jiho 🙄). picked a field that would allow him to look at literally the farthest places in the universe, so he doesn't have to think about his own reality. graduated way too quickly and received his doctorate degree at a very jobless age. now he's assistant professor at INU for intro physics/astronomy classes + working on several research papers on black hole cosmology. no-nonsense, resting bitch face, a harsh grader. other faculty don't know how to connect with him!!! students pray they don't get stuck with him!!! his liver hates him!!!

— has a moderate drinking problem. has a problem with vices in general, and is probably just one bad contact away from slipping into something worse.

— likes going down to lovebug's server rooms to work on his research while the machines compute the fate of everyone else in the world. has this stupid fantasy that if he drowns himself long enough in the blinking blue lights, it'll finally make his fatemark appear.

— has been through multiple prescriptions and "procedures" by now to try to get it to manifest. has a habit of wearing a ring or gloves to hide it (his parents have managed to spin a "it's for his soulmate's safety!" cover story out of this). they've had him go through multiple relationships & breakups publicly to give the illusion that he's had his mark all this time and keeps resonating, then NDAs the hell out of those people.

— he's older now and very deeply resentful of his parents and the propaganda they push, but at the same time he #yearns for it so bad it's not even funny 😑

— in reality, he needs more Connection. or a better dose of reality. even his haters don't get the benefit of a full, enriched rivalry because he's always so removed from everything... my goal with his arc is to change that, make him happy, make him angry, make him uncomfortable, make him participate in the act of living‼️ i'd love to figure out how he can crash into your muse's life or vice versa.

aaaaand hello again! sun here once more (he/she, 30+, utc-3), with my second muse! this is jung jihoon aka the hunter. he is 35 years old and unfated, and he's acquired ownership of club icarus through ✨ not exactly legal ways ✨ — though most only know him as the masked persona who shows up once in a blue moon preceding a disappearance. he hates fatemarks with a burning passion because they destroyed his family and set him up for failure from a young age, and he will stop at nothing to see the inyeon collective crash and burn. fun! once again, i will have his info and some plot ideas under the cut (please mind the tws at the top!). if you'd like to plot with jihoon, like this post and i'll message you asap!

born on may 31, 1990 in incheon, and lived here his whole life. his family always struggled to get by, and he was forced to start working at a young age to help out. as a result, he barely got through high school and has no interest in pursuing education further.

when he was still a child, his mother was seduced by the idea of fatemarks and spent rent money on getting one for herself. she was soon swept away by a richer man with promises of a happy, resonant life, and was instead used as entertainment for the upper class until she was driven to end everything. his father, already prone to violence, began taking out his frustrations on him with belts and kicks. 

jihoon ran away from home in his teens, and went low contact with his father. to this day, they only ever speak when the man manages to track him down, and jihoon has to buy his silence so he can keep his alias a secret.

jihoon has a deep-seated hatred for fatemarks because of what they did to his family. he refuses to be fated, and on the darkest of nights he and his crew will go out at night looking to hunt and hurt those who are fated and choose to brag about it.

he’s been on his own for over a decade, and he’s learned to lean on crime and violence to get by. he’s not the founder of club icarus, but very few know about this or about how he essentially stole it from the original owner through blackmail, right before the grand opening. 

at the club, he goes by the alias “the hunter”, and though his outfit changes from time to time, the cedarwood-colored mask is always the same and has become his trademark symbol. he is not often seen in his own club, and when he does show up, it is often said that someone will disappear the next day. 

lately, jihoon has also gotten more active in the anti-fatemark scene, helping organize protests and rallies. his ultimate goal is to bring down the inyeon research center and expose the corporation for the greedy, soul-sucking monsters he sees them as.

— PLOT IDEAS.

first off, as he owns the icarus club, i foresee all sorts of fun little things we can do here! whether your muse is a regular known for overdoing it or a newcomer whom he'll do his best to lure and charm, there are many possibilities for interactions. jihoon never takes his mask off at the club (yes, the mask stays on), so your muse will only know him as the relentless hunter. he probably has dirt on you or someone you love, too. that's just how it goes.

jihoon never shies away from a brawl. though he tries to be careful in his daily life so as to not get caught, at night while wearing his mask, he will often go looking for violent ways to let off steam. i'm sure there is a secret fight club somewhere around here.

FATEMARK HATERS RISE UP! jihoon can always be found organizing protests and other disruptive rallies, and he is the first to tell you that being bound to another person though a change in your dna is, honestly, fucked up. he believes that relationships should be free-range, homegrown, grass-fed only.

he hasn't had a real full-time job in over a decade. he tried to be good in his teens, but the anger issues and trauma responses quickly led him astray. he's the typical criminal who swindles for a living, and who's never felt at home anywhere because he's constantly evading either the police or his enemies. any long-lasting relationship he's ever had was built on lies. as such, i'm more than down to plot folks who hate him and want him gone for any (or all) of the reasons above!

i'd be very curious to plot a past romantic relationship for him, too. i have no idea how he'd handle being in love, and that'd be very interesting to explore!

hiiiii hello everyone! i'm sun (he/she, 30+, utc-3) and i'm so excited for this rp ♡ i have two muses here and i'll be posting their intros separately. first off, we have saran limpatiyakorn aka ayla, a 27 year fated old model and influencer from thailand. she moved to incheon nine years ago to pursue stardom, and was briefly known as heron from the group birds of paradise. her most notorious claim to fame, however, is her very public relationship (and even more public breakup) — she is the preset "oscar-winning tears", and as that would suggest, she is now trying to distance herself from her ex on social media, while secretly still obsessing over them. i'll have her info & some plot ideas below the cut, but if you'd like to plot please feel free to like this message and i'll hop in your ims!

— BASICS.

born on feb 19, 1999 in bangkok, thailand to a well-off family. has had the fatemark since birth, as her parents found each other through resonance.

knew how to sing and play several instruments by the time she was 18. was never recognized by her musical talent, instead always praised for her looks and poise. 

was scouted by 9lives agency right out of high school. convinced her parents to pay for her move abroad under the condition that if she didn’t manage to debut in 5 years time, she would move back to thailand and work for her mother’s charity instead. the debut with birds of paradise came a year too late, and she had to fight tooth and nail to be allowed to stay in the country for it. the group failing to stick it out past one promotional cycle made her the laughing stock of her family. to this day, her father barely speaks to her as a result.

the move to incheon also came with new discoveries regarding herself and love. she’s only ever been bound to one person, her former lover.

five years ago, she met the person she thought she’d spend the rest of her life with. they were in resonance for four years. ayla thought she was safe with her, safe to admit publicly that she needed her like oxygen. they were both in the entertainment industry, and their youthful love fueled by their fatemarks was sought after as an exciting business prospect by many brands. that is, until they fell out of resonance, and ended up going their separate ways.

ayla’s already complicated life as a former kpop idol became insufferable. with her group disbanded and her love life in shambles, she was left with nothing but the pain of public breakups to keep her company in a foreign country. 

her agency decided to keep her signed as a solo act, mostly as a model and influencer, once again reverting to capitalizing on her looks rather than her musical prowess. the image they carved for her on social media is of a hard worker who is passionate about high fashion and charity work, but behind the cameras she is still obsessing over the only person who’s ever truly loved her, to the point where she refuses to let anyone else in. 

lately she’s been cracking under the pressure of constantly being asked about her ex and whether or not birds of paradise will have a reunion comeback one day, and she’s been picking up bad habits to cope. she is one bad night away from being caught under the influence by the paparazzi. or worse, the police.

— PLOT IDEAS

most importantly, i am looking for her ex! i will be writing a wanted request to the main (with sonya as the fc for the picspam), but i'm always open to other possibilities too!

fellow 9lives workers! ayla has been signed to them for nine years now; she trained for six years prior to birds of paradise's debut, and had her contract renewed as a solo act shortly after. during her training years, she was laser focused on getting any sort of debut so her parents wouldn't send her back to thailand. the 6th year of training was particularly rough as a result, until her spot in bop was confirmed. nowadays, longtime agency staffers probably know how volatile she is under the surface.

i would also love to find at least one muse who could absolutely ruin ayla's life if they wanted. whether because of a past thing or a future plot where they find ayla acting up after hours, i think it will be really fun if i add even more pressure to her already stressful life. i'm a great mun c:

hookups! ayla is currently in a terrible state, so of course it's the perfect time for someone to keep her company during these lonely nights. she will not fall for anyone else at this time, as she is still very much in love with her ex, but that doesn't mean your muse can't have a one-sided thing for her. or they can just be one-night stands, who knows!

congratulations  on  the  release  of  VIRTUAL  LOVER.  in  what  ways  do  you  think  this  EP  encapsulates  the  kind  of  artist  you  are  and  hope  to  be?

✦  —  "i  think  VIRTUAL  LOVER  is  the  most  honest  version  of  me.  for  a  long  time,  it  felt  like  i  was  stuck  somewhere  in  between  —  like  i  wasn't  the  person  i  used  to  be  anymore,  but  i  hadn't  fully  become  the  person  i  wanted  to  be  yet.  this  EP  kind  of  lives  in  that  feeling,  where  there's  loneliness,  confusion  and  a  lot  of  quiet  moments..  but  at  the  same  time,  there's  also  a  lot  of  curiosity,  softness  and  hope.  i  wanted  to  show  that  even  when  things  feel  uncertain  or  incomplete  that  there's  still  something  beautiful  in  that  process  of  becoming."

you  were  heavily  involved  in  producing  this  EP.  what  was  the  most  challenging  part  of  that  process?

✦  —  "being  honest  with  myself.  i  think  it's  easy  to  hide  behind  something  that  sounds  'good'  or  what  someone  might  expect,  but  when  you're  producing  your  own  music,  you  can't  really  do  that.  there  were  a  lot  of  moments  where  i  had  to  ask  myself,  'is  this  really  how  i  feel  or  is  this  just  what  sounds  nice?"  and  sometimes  it  was  hard  to  find  the  right  contrast  in  between  that."

fans  still  remember  your  work  with  BIRDS  OF  PARADISE  very  fondly.  how  do  you  feel  about  that  chapter  now?

✦  —  "i'm  really  grateful  for  it.  i  wouldn't  be  where  i  am  today  without  birds  of  paradise.  that  was  where  i  learned  how  to  express  myself  and  where  i  was  able  to  find  my  voice  for  the  first  time.  i'm  so  grateful  for  all  the  experiences  i've  had  from  being  with  the  girls  and  i'm  so  grateful  to  all  of  our  fans  for  supporting  me  during  this  debut."

the  final  track,  COSMIC  GIRL,  feels  almost  hopeful  compared  to  the  rest  of  the  EP.  was  that  intentional?

✦  —  "yes!  i  didn't  want  the  album  to  stay  in  one  place  emotionally,  so  that  track  is  sort  of  like…  how  i  felt  stepping  outside  of  everything  for  a  moment.  it  kind  of  feels  like  when  you're  looking  at  life  from  really  far  away  and  realizing  that  even  if  it  feels  like  you're  orbiting,  you  still  made  it  somewhere.  just  because  you're  in  one  place  doesn't  always  mean  you're  stuck."

what  do  you  hope  listeners  take  away  from  this  EP?

✦  —  "mostly  that  it's  okay  to  not  have  everything  figured  out.  that  even  in  that  weird  and  uncomfortable  in-between,  you're  still  moving  forward.  i  also  wanted  them  to  remember  that  even  when  you  feel  alone,  you're  still  connected  to  those  who  care  about  you  through  screens,  signals  and  things  that  aren't  always  fully  tangible."
