FathomVerse 3.0 is here!

Today, FathomVerse is releasing a suite of new features, including a brand new mini-game called Filter, to expedite community-driven analysis of underwater imagery and accelerate ocean discovery. 📱🙌

Developed by MBARI and partners in the FathomNet Program, the FathomVerse app engages ocean enthusiasts around the world to help improve the artificial intelligence tools researchers use to study the ocean.

In Filter, FathomNauts can quickly review a set of images and remove all the images that don’t match their mission, filtering out what doesn’t belong. Denizen Mode within Filter will relieve bottlenecks slowing down the FathomVerse annotation pipeline by enlisting the most experienced FathomNauts to verify community annotations. The new version of FathomVerse empowers FathomNauts to work alongside experts to quickly put images annotated by the FathomVerse community into the hands of scientists. We’re thrilled to welcome the @mbari-blog FathomVerse team back to the Aquarium for our next gaming livestream!

Join us live on YouTube and Twitch on April 10 at 3:30 p.m. PT with members of the MBARI FathomVerse team to play and discuss version 2.0 of this innovative mobile game that combines cozy gaming and deep-sea science. FathomVerse players participate in community science by training artificial intelligence that experts can use to identify ocean animals as they explore.

Everyone I know irl gets to hear me not shut up about this ever, so now it's time for my handful of mutuals to get this treatment! I've been obsessed with Fathomverse for the last few months. FathomVerse is a free app where you identify ocean animals in real underwater photos and contribute to a library of labeled images that helps scientists catalog and understand ocean life. They just updated the game so that there are minigames that let you work on any part of the labeling process, from looking at images and drawing boxes around critters, identifying the critters in the boxes and then helping confirm the IDs alongside fellow players. Not every image is as stunning as this pride siphonophore, but when you find one, it's special and you can save it and share it! Every so often you find something that not even the expert team that reviews the most puzzling photos can identify! There's training on how to identify different creatures and a very helpful discord with more identification tips for tricky ones. Please look at sea creatures with me!

Dropout tv! I'm usually seeking out a lot of funny videos, and I watch a few too many reels/tiktoks/shorts in a day, but dropout makes it way easier to watch medium to long form videos. full of comedy, diversity, nerdiness, and genuine people, it's the only streaming service I pay for and it's 100% worth it
