“  Did you know her?  ” Nevin asked out of the blue, needing to find someone to talk to about the morning news, “  I saw her just a couple of days ago. At the supermarket.  ” Granted, she hadn’t known Daisy long, but the shock of her murder still left her feeling uneased.

She’d been too lost in her thoughts to hear her name uttered until she almost ran into him. Heat rose to her cheeks immediately and she apologized for her distraction. “  I didn’t spill on you, or anything, did I?  ” Nevin glanced at his attire, letting a breathe of relief out when she noticed no damage. “  I guess I must have zoned out. What were you saying?  ”

Nevin tipped the shot as far as it’d go without the need for her to tilt her head along with it then made a face. “  I swear, this is torture.  ” she said, after regaining her composure, “  I petition we go back to the lemon drop.  ” Bringing the small glass down on the table, she offered another alternative, “  Or water, even. Maybe lemonade?  ”

“  Penny for your thoughts?  ” she asked, settling right beside him against the wall. She turned to glance at the very crowd he seemed so invested in, and a part of Bri wondered if he was judging the attire. Her own dress had come from a thrift store - not that anyone could tell since it’d been in pristine condition when she found it - but she could tell from a mile away that the rest of the party goers had definitely spent more than the $10 dollars she had. $20 if you count the mask and heels.

“  This dress is to die for!  ” she said, with too much excitement then the news of that morning came rushing to her head forcing her smile to dwindle slightly before she recovered. “  Give me a little spin.  ” she requested, reaching for one of Dilan’s hands when she noticed the nails. “  Who did your nails?  ”
