After watching Richard Burton's Faust (highly recommended) I've come to conclusion that Gothe's Faust is a fanfiction Canon complain AND a parody of Marlowe's. He literally throws in a love interest oc, changes Helen's storyline (I find the whole hellenic-germanic supernatural family really interesting tho), and slams down a happy ever after because yes, his blorbo has to be happy and that's so cool of him. In the meantime, the are so many comic shenanigans, while Marlowe is pretty serious with some degree of fun here and there. Marlowe is about inner turmoil and damnation, Gothe is about hybris and redemption
