WHO ARE YOUR FAVOURITE ARTISTS? I will be talking to the children about lots of different artists next term and would love to hear who your favourites are. Please pop them in the comments below! A great way to get your child interested in art is to talk to them about it. Ask them lots of questions about what they like, how do the colours in a painting make them feel? If it’s an abstract piece of artwork, ask them what do they see? It’s really easy for us to tell them what we see and what we think they should also see, but what will engage them is to let them enjoy the artwork and see it in their own ways. You will be so pleasantly surprised with what they see. I am always in awe of the children’s imagination and observations they come up with when we look at artists. It’s almost never what I thought which is so wonderful. This book “How to Talk to Children About Art” by Francoise Barbe-Gall is fantastic. It gives you practical advice about how to engage your child in art and is perfect for giving you ideas about what to ask them if you’re not sure.
