Fan Theory: What Really Happened to Leta Lestrange
According to Crimes of Grindelwald, Leta Lestrange is the last remaining Lestrange. This means that she couldn’t have died when she was consumed by the blue flames. What if...
The flames transported her forward in time.
She meets a young 20-something Bellatrix Black. The two fall in love, but pureblood families are especially homophobic, so Leta assumes the identity of Rudolphus Lestrange.
Leta has always been able to love more than one person. She still loves Newt and Theseus, but her love for them transported her here, to Bellatrix. Even though she loves them, she feels that her love for Bellatrix is so right, and that it was always her destiny to be with her. The strength of Bellatrix’s personality helps her overcome her pain from accidentally killing her little brother all of those years ago.
Bellatrix and Leta are attacked and tortured by a wizard gang. They barely make it out alive. This unhinges Bellatrix. She decides to join Voldemort in order to gain power and protection. She notices that Voldemort is attracted to her, and uses this to her advantage. No one realizes that she is actually a lesbian, married to Leta Lestrange.
Dumbledore: There are basic facts, and then there are second-level facts.
Grindelwald:...You have my attention.
Dumbledore: Good, I'll explain. A basic fact? I love you. Second-level fact? I love you even though YOU SUCK.
Grindelwald:...Wow, that does make sense...
