A/N: I'm a little rusty so I hope this isn't to bad and I hope you all enjoy it ! :)
OA X Reader
Life was always about What If’s, What if I didn’t take this Job, What if I never let home,
What if I actually cared about myself for once. Were you where you thought you would be in life absolutely not. It just felt like the world was passing you by and you were just stuck.
Everyone was moving on with their lives and you never got up. You never crawled out from that space.
What if you didn’t stay behind. What if you just moved on with your life and worried about yourself for once.
Your parents had you when they were older. So when you got older they needed someone to take care of them.
Your sisters just kind of moved on and you stayed behind they needed you. So you did the right thing well you thought it was.
You had exciting opportunities to go off to school and be something but you did what your heart was telling you to do.
But things were changing in your life. You were getting older and you wanted to move on and have a life of your own.
You spent your life taking care of others so now it was time to take care of you.
OA had invited you to come down to New York to be with him.
You needed him and god knows how much he needed you. That’s why when he asked you he was praying so hard you would say yes.
The two of you meant back in middle school. You didn’t live in the state but you had opportunities to travel with your school and go to events and even summer programs.
You meant OA at a summer program and from there you guys were inseparable.
When you moved back home he wrote to you, called you every day.
You guys would visit each other during summer and breaks. All these years never losing touch. You guys were each other's safe spaces.
His family life was hard and so was yours.
So when talking to each other being with each other it felt peaceful and quiet and the nose wasn’t there. When he joined the army it didn’t change anything between you two.
OA instead never felt closer to you. He thought of you all the time while he was away
. He carried a picture of you everywhere he went. He still did to this day. He even wore the matching necklace you got him before he deployed to keep him safe while he was away.
OA had been going through a lot in the moment. Work had taken its toll; he just lost another relationship. He had been missing you lately a lot, needing his home and comfort to come back to him.
You been needing him to. Life lately has just been hard, not even with your parents, just everything.
You wanted a fresh start. Maybe you had been sending some signals out there hoping he was picking them up.
You just felt like a pull to him, not that it wasn’t already there it just had been getting stronger. Was needier the right word?
But you just never wanted to come out and ask him, that’s one thing in this world you hated was being a burden. You didn’t want to make it seem like he didn’t have a choice.
So when OA called you that one night asking you to come down to New York for the weekend you jumped on the chance. Packing your bags as soon as he hung up the phone.
You were so excited to just get away and see him, You were counting down the days everyday that it got closer you felt yourself getting more and more excited.
When the day came you woke up early and already had your outfit picked out
You got to your bus stop like an hour early just because you didn’t want to miss it. You did have nerves because you were worried he would get called into a case.
But you tried not to let yourself think like that. You tried to stay positive and be happy you were just going.
The bus ride felt like it was forever even though you knew it was only for a short time.
You and OA had been texting you the entire time. He was telling you how excited he was and how he was planning this amazing trip with you.
You didn’t care what you did you were just glad you were going to be with him.
Finally after about what felt like 3 days but was really only 3 hours you were back in NYC. You ran off the bus nearly knocking everyone down with you.
When you got off the bus OA was standing to the side and his smile was so big and bright as soon as soon as he saw you.
You ran right over to him nearly knocking people out of your way.
OA wrapped you in a tight embrace and you wrapped your arms around him. Afraid to let him go like it was all going to be a dream.
After a few minutes you two finally let go and grabbed your stuff and headed on out
. OA refused to let you carry your own bags. The two of you talked to each other the entire time like you hadn’t seen each other in years even though you all talked to each other the entire time.
Everything was just so easy with him like you two just had this connection where you two could just pick up and everything just flowed out with one another.
After making it to his apartment he helped you inside and his apartment was incredible. For a guy he had it well maintained.
“Hey look come here” OA said smiling
He took your bags and walked you down the hallway and you were really curious as to what he was doing. He walked you into a room that had a freshly made bed and it had been clearly cleaned out.
He sat your stuff down and just looked up at you with the biggest smile on his face.
“What’s going on” You asked smiling back with also a confusing look on your face.
“This is for you” OA said
“For me this is to much for a weekend i mean you cleary did some work in here last time it was a mess with clothes and boxes and everything” You said now just more confused than ever.
OA had started twisting his ring something he always did when he was nervous and you could tell he was ramping up to something that he was to afraid to ask.
“Come on what is it” You said smiling and grabbing his hand and pulling him onto the bed and making lay flat. The two of you were looking at each other in the eyes .
“ I uh was hoping it was for more than a weekend thing” OA finally let out
“What do you mean: You asked you were still playing with his hand.
“I mean I want you to stay with me like move in me and you” He said squeezing your hand.
“Why what’s going “ You asked with concern in your voice
“Nothing i mean I just miss you I need you here with me and I know you want out” OA said ..
You really didn’t say anything to him, you didn’t want to be a burden, did you put pressure on him to ask, thinking back to conversations you had previously had.
“Hey hey this is me asking because I want you here I need you here” OA said
You didn’t know what to say you were taken back in the moment at the gesture.
“Are you sure” You asked
“Absolutely i need you here I want you here I’m sick you always being so far away from me” OA said.
“I need you to yeah I need to come you know like I think it’s time I move on and start fresh” You said
“That is what you deserve to be somewhere else to think about you first and If i’m being honest I’m being a little selfish” OA said smiling at you.
You smiled back at him
“Mm oh yeah what’s that” You asked
“I kind of need you here with me, things have been kind of rough work, everything else and It’s just I miss you and having you here with me and being around you makes everything just so easy” OA said
“That’s not selfish, it’s incredibly sweet and honest and same though to, I miss being with you having fun and having my person next to me it’s just peaceful next to you” You told him
Your face turning red when you said it.
OA let go of your hand and reached out and took his hand and traced your face with his hand. You meant his eyes with yours and you both just kind of took each other in. The moment felt so surreal and you could feel your heart racing and your breath was shaky.
You felt like you were gonna pass out but you weren’t your knees just felt so weak.
OA leaned in a little and you meant him half way. It just felt like a huge moment was leading for this. He kissed you and you kissed him back.
It was nice and slow and you felt like you both were just getting to know this side of each other.
It was so different and it was so new. You felt like you were in high school. Just getting your first kiss for the time.
You didn’t even realize how long this kiss was until you both felt yourself needing to come back in for air.
When it broke OA put his forehead on yours and you both just laughed. Both just gitty and overcome with so much emotion.
OA lifted his head up after a few moments and you both just took a few moments to be there with each other.
And soak all this in a moment you were looking for so long.
“I uh” You both started at the same time. Which made you both laugh.
“You go first” You said
“Me first so much pressure” OA said laughing
“I need to get my feelers before I speak” You said
“Ouch that bad” He said.
“Mmmm your gonna find out” you said.
“Well in that case let me tell you just in case” OA said
He kind of sat up a little bit and cleared his throat.
“I’m just going to say this and get it out my chest, I love you and not just as a friend or more because were more than friends and I love you more than all of that. I love you more than anything you are my person and my everything. I miss you when your not here when I come home and it’s empty without you here, everyday I pray for something more with you and now i think that time is finally here it’s finally coming true” OA said
He had a tear come out of his eye and he just looked at you smiling and his face was all bright red and you could tell he was also getting nervous in all this.
You grabbed his hands and tried not cry in all of this because if you did you would never be able to get the courage to tell him everything you wanted to.
“Man I knew i should have went first” You said
And OA looked you a bit nervous and he looked like he was going to have a panic attack so you hurried up and moved it along for the sake of his mental health.
‘“I love you to like more than just friends and like you said more than what our current situation is. I just never thought I was good enough for you. I mean your successful and you have a career and me I don’t have any of that going on. I mean i guess I really never thought you would ever think of me in that way. So i never said anything because I didn’t want to loose you, your to important to me” You said now it was your turn to be a nervous sweaty wreak.
OA looked at you and he was hurt by what you said. How you could think so little of yourself. When you were everything he ever wanted.
He grabbed your hands and he squeezed them hard looking at you.
“Hey look at you, you're amazing and your kind and you always give everyone a hundred percent. And anyone would be lucky to be with you, you have so much to offer and this isn’t your whole story you still have so much to give, and you are worth so much more than what your feeling right now” OA said
You smiled at him and you could feel your heart beating out of it’s chest. You also started to let a tear roll down.
“This is going to be good you know for the both of us. I know it we deserve to give ourselves a real shot a real beginning to start over you know. Its what we earned to see where this can go.” OA said
“What ever happens though were gonna be okay right were always be there for each other right” You said.
“Always” OA said
He leaned in and kissed you again this time it was a little more rough this time with a different kind of meaning behind this time.
He wasn’t testing the waters this time he was giving you everything he had.
You gave him everything you had as well. Like all those feelings were coming out
you were just being yourself not feeling so worried and timid and it was so much more than what you could have imagined.
All those butterflies were coming out of your stomach and working its way out.
Again just as earlier you felt yourself needing air. And it broke and you both just laughed at each other.
“Let me take you out tonight like for real I wanna do this the proper way. I don’t want to rush I want to enjoy it you” OA said
“I would like that very much” You said
OA got up and got off the bed, saying a quick goodbye in order to leave you alone for a moment.
You got up and smiled and looked around your new room. It was beautiful it was big and it had a beautiful view of the city. And there was your favorite color sheet on the bed. And some fresh flowers were sitting on the dresser.
OA really put some thought into make it feel like home for you. Something you failed to notice earlier.
You always wondered what If with OA. He was the always the one who you thought about the one who “got away” in a sense.
Now the crazy part was you didn’t have to wonder anymore. For the first time you felt free and happy. And you put yourself first for the time ever.
Finally being free from everything you felt happy and okay and a weight was gone and this was just the beginning.
You could start over and do what ever you wanted and that was something you longed for.
Requested by Anon –Hi! First I wanna say you're a life saver. You are pretty much the only one who writes for Stuart Scola and I have the biggest crush on the man. So second, I'd like to request something if that is okay. Would you write something for Scola x reader where they have a two year old kid together? Where the rest don't know he has a kid and they come across the reader and the kid at a crime scene? With a worried scola? Hope you understand and I hope you're willing to write it! If not that is also okay, thank you in advance either way!
Characters – Scola x reader, OA, Maggie.
Word Count – 534.
‘Shit.’ Scola cursed when he saw the building, then he looked down the street, noticing that your car was still parked down the block.
‘Are you okay?’ OA asked, Scola shook his head before he took off in a jog, quickly flicking his badge at the officer the tape was lifted up for him.
Ducking underneath it he started frantically looking around, OA and Maggie shared a look as he frantically ran his fingers through his hair. Messing up the neatly style hair do before he slid his phone out and started dialling a number.
‘Stuart.’ He heard, he whipped around and saw you standing at the edge of the group, Henry was resting on your hip as he jogged over to you. Pressing a quick kiss to your lips before placing one on Henry’s head.
‘We’re okay.’ You told Scola as he wrapped his arms around you.
‘You’re sure?’ He asked, you smiled.
‘Yup.’ You replied, leaning closer to press your forehead against his, waiting for him to exhale.
‘I thought.’ He said, you quickly shook your head, getting that image out your mind.
‘Don’t, we’re fine you should know by now I can defend myself.’ You said, bringing your spare hand up to cup his cheek, feeling his jaw tense underneath it before he nodded.
‘Daddy?’
‘I’m okay, buddy.’ Scola said looking at Henry who was balancing on your arm, Scola quickly took him from you and pressed another kiss to his head, taking a deep breath.
‘Did you have fun with mummy?’ He asked, Henry smiled and nodded.
‘We had fun, but I think you might want to tell your team about us before they break their brains.’ You commented, Scola looked at you before turning to OA and Maggie that were watching the three of you with wide eyes.
‘OA, Maggie this is my wide Y/N and our son, Henry.’ Scola introduced the pair of them to you, you gave them a smile whilst Henry was more focussed on the people that were walking around behind you.
‘Son?’ OA asked, Maggie nudged him and you chuckled.
‘Yes, you know when two people love each other very much.’ Scola replied, you whacked his arm and looked at you.
‘With the lines of work we’re in, we don’t practically go about mentioning him.’ You explained, Scola lifted Henry higher up with a small grunt.
‘But it’s a pleasure to meet you.’ You said, stretching your had out, Maggie was the first to put a smile on and accept your handshake before OA stepped up, still confused but returned the smile.
‘We better go, you look busy.’ You said, turning to Scola who wanted to object but you were right.
‘I’ll see you tonight baby boy.’ Scola mumbled to Henry, he smiled again.
‘Bye bye.’ Henry said as you took him from his fathers arms, Scola then turned to you.
‘I’ll leave dinner in the fridge, and I’ll be waiting.’ You told him, he nodded.
‘Don’t stay up.’ He said, you narrowed your eyes at him before giving him a quick kiss.
‘You know I do.’ You replied, pressing another kiss to the side of his lips before pulling back and walking away.
From the Big Apple to the Windy City - Chapter Three
Chapter One Chapter Two
"Two killers? Now you've lost me," Adam admitted.
"Right, uh, stay with me for a moment. Earlier, when Kevin and I were talking with Roger, the CSI, he pointed out that there were ligature marks around both Loreen and Tori's wrists. The first and only other girl to be killed in Chicago, Beverly Reynolds, also had those marks on her, along with every single girl killed in New York except for one," I explain.
"Dana Patricks," OA murmured.
"Exactly," I agree. "Dana Patricks is the only girl to not fit our pattern to a T."
"She had strangulation marks," Hailey recalled.
"Right. None of our other victims had that," I confirm. "In the FBI, we analyze different weapons and causes of death because they reveal a lot about our offender. Strangulation, especially manually, is very personal. That's why I think Dana Patricks was killed by her boyfriend, Casey Keys. It's a stretch, I know, but think about it. If Casey heard about Anna Garcia's murder, he could have tried to copy it and blame her death on the real killer. We never released that the killer bounded the hands and feet of his victims, which explains why Dana didn't have the ligature marks. Because Casey didn't know about it."
"I like where you're going Y/N, I do," Voight admitted. "But we have no evidence to prove that."
"Except maybe we do," OA cut in. "The M.E. up in New York found Casey's DNA on Dana, but because the two were together, no one thought anything of it."
"But Dana's parents mentioned that she hadn't seen Casey in a few days," I bring up. "They said they were going through a rough patch. Whenever I'm upset or angry or whatever, I like to take a long shower, and if Dana did that, any previous contact with Keys would have been washed off."
"So how did the new DNA get there?" Jay quizzed.
"And that's the case we'd make to get a warrant for Casey Keys' arrest," I claim. "I can call Agent Castile and get her to write up the papers. After that, all we'd need is a judge's signature, which would be easily obtained with the evidence, and Keys would be put into custody."
"You, Y/N, are amazing," Kim expressed.
"Wait a minute," Kevin interjected. "Getting Keys is a huge step, but we still don't have any leads on our real killer."
"Atwater's right," Voight announced. "Upton and Zidan, put a call out to your office in New York and get them started on the warrant for Keys. The rest of you, keep digging into the victims from both New York and Chicago. Something's gotta point us to our offender, and we're gonna find it."
............................................
"Hey," Hailey greeted as the two of us ran into each other in the small hallway leading from the wire room to the bullpen. "You guys contact your office back in New York?"
I nodded. "Yep. As we speak, Casey Keys is being arrested for the murder of Dana Patricks. Now all we've gotta do is nail the prick responsible for the rest of the killings."
"Easy peasy, right?" Hailey joked.
"Yeah. Easy peasy," I repeat and look down at the file folder in my hands. The file folder that contained the crime scene pictures of all of the bodies that had been found, both in New York and Chicago. All I could think about was the pain and suffering the girls had been through being beaten, bodies littered with cuts and bruises, even a few broken bones.
"You okay?" Hailey asked.
"I was just thinking about all of these girls," I murmur. "About what they've been through. And I just can't help but think that I could've saved them. Some of them, anyways. But the ghosts from my past, our past, got in the way. I didn't put my best foot forward because I was knee deep in memories that I haven't thought about in years. Being in Chicago hasn't made things any better either. If anything, it's made things 100 times worse."
"Hey. Listen to me," Hailey instructed. "You are not to blame for any of these murders. This guy is just good. You said it yourself, there hasn't been evidence at any of the crime scenes or footage of the offender with any of the girls. And since the kills are random, there's no connection between any of the victims. You and OA and your team up in New York did everything you could to catch this bastard. It doesn't matter that he got away. What matters is that you're here with us now, and we're gonna catch this son of a bitch."
"Thanks, Hails," I breathe out. "I needed that. But there's still one thing I don't understand. How are you still here in Chicago? Don't get me wrong, I do miss it sometimes, but after everything that's happened, I thought you'd have left like I did."
"Part of me did think about leaving," Hailey disclosed. "I thought that it'd be nice to go some place new and start fresh. But there are more than just bad memories here, Y/N. There are good ones too. Going to Gino's East after late nights out with you and our brothers. Hanging out at the Water Wall on hot afternoons. Walking around downtown when there was absolutely nothing to do on the weekends. Plus, mom and dad are still here. Even after everything we've been through, they're still our family."
"It's been 5 years since I've spoken to dad," I share. "I try to talk to mom at least once a week, but dad...I can't reach out to him. I just can't. Not after what he's done."
"Sorry to interrupt," Kim spoke and hovered at the entrance to the bullpen. "But I think we may have found something."
"OA!" I shout down the hallway. "We're needed in the bullpen." A few seconds later, OA emerged from the wire room and followed us into the bullpen. When we got there, Kevin was leading Adam and Jay out of the break room, and Voight was just exiting his office.
"All right, so Kev and I were going through all of our victims' last knowns, trying to figure out if we could create a timeline for their deaths," Kim informed us. "And as I was looking through some camera footage around the diner Tori Hughes worked at, I found this. Take a look."
My eyes were drawn towards Kim's computer screen as everyone gathered around her desk, and together we all watched the scene unfold. The camera, positioned on the entrance to the pawn shop next door, showed Tori leaving the diner with a younger man, whom she was draped all over.
"Were you able to follow them?" Adam questioned.
"Yep," Kim replied. "The camera never gets a clear shot of their faces, but I was able to get the license plate number of the car they got into. Problem is, the car was stolen last week, just around the time the murders started."
"Did you follow them on the traffic cameras?" I implore.
"As a matter of fact, I did," Kim responded. "Pods show them heading east to a motel on Southfield Rd."
"Maybe the receptionist or a janitor saw them," I suggest. "There could also be cameras there as well. OA and I can swing by and check things out."
"All right," Voight approved. "The rest of us will try to see if we can find a clearer image of this guys face. Then we can run it through facial rec and get a name."
...........................................
"Excuse me, do you run this establishment?" I ask the middle aged woman sitting at the small desk at the front of the entrance to the motel.
"Why yes, I do. Marge Haywood," the woman introduced.
"Agents Upton and Zidan," OA returned and pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket which showed the shot we took of Tori and our offender exiting the diner. "We were wondering if you recognize these two people."
Marge took the photo from OA's hands and examined it closely. "As a matter of fact, I remember these two coming in last night. Room 106, if I remember correctly."
"Chances are he signed in with a fake name," I tell OA before turning back to Marge. "Any chance you have security cameras?"
"We do. Just got 'em installed," Marge answered. "I can pull them up for you if you'd like."
"Please," OA said.
So Marge pulled up the footage, and we skipped to the night both Tori and Loreen were murdered. And what do you know, we got the scumbag on film. The cameras were so well hidden that anyone passing by wouldn't spare them a second glance. The footage showed our offender carrying Tori, who was bound and tied, before shoving her into the trunk of the car he had stolen. And that's when a miracle happened. The offender turned right towards the light post, giving the camera a solid look at his face. Solid enough for facial rec. I snapped a picture of the computer screen and shoved my phone into my pocket, turning to Marge as I did.
"Thank you so much, ma'am. You might have just helped us catch this guy," I claim. Back at the district, I ran up the steps two at a time to get towards the bullpen as quickly as possible. OA was right behind me, and the two of us took the last step seconds apart. "Tell me you got him."
"We ran the picture you sent through facial rec and we got a hit," Adam revealed. "Meet Travis Benton. 20 years old, has a decent rap sheet. A few pickups for possession and a DUI. Get this, Travis' father was arrested when he was a boy for domestic violence and spent 5 years in the Lincoln Correctional Facility. Him and his mother were hospitalized a few times because of they're injuries."
"Like father like son," I mutter. "We have any leads on him?"
"Travis' cousin owns a house up in Lincoln Park," Jay declared. "A few years ago Travis came down when things were really bad for him and his mom up in New York."
"And Lincoln Park just so happens to be where our last two victims were found," Kevin brought up.
"Offenders usually stay close to what they know. It's the first rule in geographic profiling," I state. "So we've got him. This is our guy."
"We've got him," Hailey confirmed and sent a smile in my direction.
"All right, suit up," Voight ordered. "We're going to that house, and we're going in heavy."
At Travis' cousin's house, the stolen vehicle was nowhere to be found. So, we all sat around in our cars and waited. OA and I were sitting in the SUV, air blasting, no words being exchanged between the two of us. We should've had a lot to talk about, seeing as we had basically caught our guy, but neither of us talked. Just then, the stolen car turned down the street, and when it got to our address, it stopped right in front, but no one got out of the car.
"Shit," I curse quietly. "I think we've been made." Seconds later, Travis sped off down the street and took a sharp right, escaping our vision. OA stepped on the gas and followed him, weaving in and out of traffic to catch him.
"Anybody got eyes?" Kim quizzed over the radio.
"OA and I are in pursuit," I answer. "He's going south on Damen towards the abandoned warehouses." Travis swerved to the left, and OA did the same, barely missing a car that was coming our way. "OA, it'd be nice if you didn't kill us today."
"I'm trying my best," OA defended. Travis then turned into an abandoned lot and ditched his car, heading into the deserted factory. OA slammed to a stop, and I hopped out of the car, pulling my gun from its' holster. Together, we entered the factory where we came to a T intersection. "You go left, I'll go right."
I nodded and went down the left hallway, taking a peak around the corner to see what was ahead of me. I walked down a few hallways, not spotting anything, but when I got to an open space towards the back of the warehouse, I saw our offender.
"Travis Benton! FBI! Put your hands up!" I shout. Travis stopped in his tracks and turned to face me, raising his gun to his head.
"I'll do it," Travis told me. "I'll end it right here."
"Travis, you don't want to do that," I reason. "Just put down the gun and come with me. We can sort all of this out."
"You know what he did, right? My father?" Travis asked.
I nodded. "Yeah, Travis. I know what he did to you and your mom."
"I always told myself I never wanted to be like him. But then when I saw Anna Garcia, I couldn't help myself. I wanted to see what it would feel like to kick the crap out of her. To be on the other side of the beatings. And you know, it felt amazing," Travis confessed. "I guess I really am my father's son. It's in my blood.
"Can I tell you something, Travis? My father was just like yours. He drank and drank and always took it out on my mom, my siblings, and I. He gave me this," I share and holster my gun, taking a step forward before pushing up my sleeve to reveal the long scar spanning the length of my upper arm. "My dad kicked me so hard once that he practically shattered my humerus. I almost couldn't become an FBI Agent because of it. But here I am, putting away people just like him. You don't have to be like him, Travis. You can make your own choice."
"I already made my choice. Look what I did to those girls. I didn't just think coming to Chicago would help me evade capture. I thought it would make me normal like before. But again, I couldn't help myself. It's in my nature to be violent," Travis claimed and turned his gun so that it was pointed towards me. "And I'm sorry, but I'm not going to prison."
That's when a few gunshots rang out, and suddenly, I was on the floor with a burning pain arising from my chest. I groaned and sat up, opening my jacket to expose my bullet proof vest. A single bullet from Travis' gun had been embedded in the kevlar. But that was odd because I heard multiple shots. However, when I looked up, I saw that OA was standing over Travis' body, gun aimed down at him. I guess OA had fired off a few shots as well.
"You okay?" OA questioned.
"Yeah," I reply. "I think so. Is he....?"
"Dead?" OA finished for me. "Yeah. Lets get you to an ambulance. You should get checked out just in case."
Minutes later, as I was being checked out by the paramedics, who confirmed that I would just have a large bruise for a week or two, the rest of Intelligence arrived, and of course, being my big sister and all, Hailey had worry plastered all over her face when she approached me.
"What happened? Are you okay? Where's Travis?" Hailey rushed out.
"Travis shot me, I'm fine, and he's dead," I list off the answers to Hailey's question. "I found him in the warehouse, and I thought telling him about what dad did to me would get him to stop and surrender. He did quite the opposite though."
"I know it's not how you wanted things to end, but we caught the guy responsible for all of the girls' deaths. That's a win in my book," Hailey disclosed.
I sighed. "I know. I just thought I'd feel different. Better, I guess."
"So I know you and OA have to get back to New York tomorrow, but what would you say to going out tonight with me and the rest of my team? There's this bar called Molly's that's frequented by cops, firefighters, and doctors. It'll be a good time. Promise," Hailey pledged.
I smiled. "I'd quite like that. I'll be sure to tell OA. We'll meet you guys there."
That night, OA and I met up with the rest of Intelligence at Molly's, and I could see why they liked it there. The bar's atmosphere was incredible. With a beer in my hand, I made my way over to the back table where everyone was waiting.
"There she is. The woman of the hour," Jay spoke. "How's it feel, knowing down that you finally caught the guy?"
"Not as good as I'd hoped, but I'm glad he's off the streets," I admit. "And uh, I'm sorry if I was a little snappy this week. This case, it just brought up a lot of things I wanted to forget."
"It's okay," Kevin reassured me. "We get it. Everyone's got things they don't want to talk about."
"Yeah. You're good," Kim consoled me.
"Before we get this party started, I need to talk to you," I say to OA. "Could we go outside for a minute?"
"Sure," OA replied. The two of us exited the bar together, and we walked off to the side to discuss something I had been wanting to the past day.
"I'm sorry," I apologize. "This whole case all you were trying to do was help, but I wouldn't let you. Instead I pushed you away, and that's not what partners should so. I know you were just trying to help, so from now on, I'll let you."
"So when I see you struggling to open your desk drawer back at the bureau, I'm allowed to help?" OA implored jokingly.
I laughed. "Sure. You can even help with that. I don't know why I haven't had that fixed. It's been sticking for ages."
"Well, maybe it just needs my magic touch," OA figured and took a step closer to me.
"Yeah?" I ask and smile up at him. "And what's that magic touch feel like?"
"I can show you," OA offered. And with that, he leaned down and pressed his lips to mine. I smiled and wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling my partner down towards me to get closer to him. OA's arms inched around my waist, and soon, we were chest to chest. After a few seconds, the two of us pulled away, out of breath. "I've been wanting to do that for a while."
"Me too," I agree. "But do me a favor. Lets not tell Hailey about this. Or Jay. Or the rest of Intelligence and the FBI, for that matter. I'd kind of like to take things slow and not have to worry about what everyone else thinks."
"I can get down with that," OA concurred. "We should get back inside. The others are probably wondering where we are."
"You're right. And it's getting a bit chilly out here too," I add. "No wonder it's called the Windy City."
OA laughed. "That's not why it's called the Windy City."
"I know. I grew up here, remember? It makes sense though," I reveal. "What doesn't make sense is why New York's called the Big Apple."
"As a New York native, I can tell you," OA professed. "But that's a story for another time. For now, lets just get back inside. And then, tomorrow, we can head back home to the Big Apple."
"Okay, it's unfair of you to use that nickname when I have no idea what it means," I scold lightly as OA held the bar door open for me.
"I know, but I'm gonna do it anyways. I'm your partner, so I'm allowed," OA exclaimed.
"Yeah yeah yeah," I mutter. "Whatever. Lets just get back inside so that others don't suspect something's up between us."
"Right, cause we would never let that happen, right?" OA posed jokingly. "But I agree. Lets go."
So together, the two of us headed back inside to join the others, who had no idea we had just shared a kiss. But knowing how Hailey was, she'd share it with Intelligence as soon as she found out. Then again, I didn't care. And tomorrow morning, I'd be on a plane back to New York with my partner, who would hopefully be something more soon enough. And it was all because of a case that brought us to Chicago, where my past only seemed to get in the way. So I guess Chicago did have some good memories. Because as of now, I'll always remember it as the place where OA Zidan and I shared our first kiss.

An: I’m pretty sure you can read this as a stand alone if you wanted to but here’s part one. Also, I’m sorry this took me 2 months to publish.
The moon is brighter than the sun? No I’m pretty sure the sun is. What’s wrong with me? Why does my head hurt?
You attempt to reach for your head but your arms are too heavy to be of any use.
That’s definitely not the moon.
The light source is moving. It’s a flashlight, the pocket sized one.
“Stay with us.” You hear a jumble voice from behind but can’t make out who it is. “We’re almost there.” The light is too bright but you can’t bring yourself to say anything. It hurts. “No, no stay up. We’re almost there.” It’s Emily, and she’s the source of the blinding presence. “Can you sit up for me?” You’re saying yes but nothing seems to come out and all you feel is fatigue. Your body is leaving this earth.
And there she is, yelling your name as its being drowned out by the darkness that’s enveloping you.
~~~~~~~~
“Hey!” Emily shouts from the stairs. “Stop day-dreaming and help me.”
“Help you? What’s going on?” The ground feels unsteady but the scene looks familiar.
Emily sets the box of towels on the counter top. “What?”
“Where am I?” You start to examine your hands, wondering what in the holy hell is happening.
“Babe,” The nickname gets your attention immediately. “Are you okay?”
“Emily,” She places a hand on your forehead.
“No fever.”
“Emily, I’ve already done this.”
“What do you mean?” She laughs. “We’ve been at this for hours. You have may more stuff than you let on. Plus, if we’ve ‘already done this’ I wouldn’t have had to tote all of these boxes by myself.”
A ‘sorry’ almost rolls off your tongue but it doesn’t make a sound. “No, Em I’m being serious.”
She plops down on the white arm chair and let’s out a huff. “Fine, you got me.” At your confused expression, she continues. “We’ve been here before, atleast you have. Three months ago you moved into this apartment with the love of your life, Emily Prentiss.”
Barely managing a stutter, “You’re not Emily?”
“Yes. Well, not exactly. I’m your version of her.”
“Am I-” You swallow the lump in your throat before saying the next part. “Dead?”
“What?” She smiles. “No. Just sleeping. A deep sleep at that.” She mumbles the last part.
“What happened? Why am I here?” You Can feel the panic and dread starting to set in. “I want Emily. I don’t want to be here.”
“Woah.” The brunette stands from her seat. “Calm down, you’re okay. Just take it easy.”
“Easy?” Now the anger is starting to boil. “I’m in a fucking coma with a fake girlfriend and you’re telling me to ‘take it easy??”
“Hey, look at me.” When you don’t move to look at her she gently takes your head. “You’re not in a coma y/n/n. You’re just sleeping.”
A tear starts to wellup in your eye. “But what does that mean?”
“Do you remember why you went to work with me today?”
“Uh,” You trail. “I think it was for a case.”
“Right, but why were you there?”
“Emily mentioned me to Hotch a year ago, about how good of an agent I am. That was before we were together.”
“Right,” She nods while doing that lip biting thing. “But why?”
“What the fuck do you mean ‘why?’ I don’t know why.” You begin to pace the shared loft. “I thought she was just putting in a good word for me.”
“Y/n, you know there’s more to it than that.”
You stop your movement and turn to face her. “Then tell me, you know!”
“No I don’t. I told you in not really her; I’m your version of her. I only know as much as you know.”
You slowly sink down on the plush couch. “I want Emily. I want the real Emily.”
“Then go to her.” She sits beside you and lays a gentle hand on your knee.
“How? I don’t even know why I’m here or what’s going on with me. I just want to go home.” The tears are staring again but not falling.
“Yes you do. Come with me.” She stands and holds out a pale palm to you. Hesitantly taking it, she leads you to your bedroom door. “Are you ready?” As soon as she sees you nod she opens the door and a bright light pulls you both in.
“Em, where are we?” In front of you is the bed to which you’ve been sharing for months now. On it is Emily in one of your big t-shirts on the phone with someone. “Wha-”
“Wait,” Your artificial Emily whispers.
The closet door opens and you step out in the new pajamas she bought you. “You look good.” She smiles with the phone away from her ear.
“Who is that?” You mouth as you crawl into bed with her.
“Hotch.” The classic toothy smile is on display as she replies. “Yes! Sir— I’m sorry but I- no we do not. Okay thank you.”
“What was that?”
“Hotch was asking for my input on the new trainees.”
“And....?”
“I did a thing.” She drags.
“A thing?” You arch your eyebrow.
“Yes.” She moves to straddle your lap.
“What was it?” Her lips on your neck completely scrambles your brain. Effectively making you forget what you were asking.
“What is this? I barely remember it.” You turn to face your rendition of Emily. All you get is a shrug in reply from her. “She wasn’t actually talking about trainees, was she?” Another shrug. “I’ll take that as a no. Was she talking about the poisoning case?” Silence. “She recommended my department to help with the murders.”
“Finally, but you still don’t know why.”
“Do I need to? Why does it actually matter.”
“Come on babe,” She brushes a hand down your arm. “I know you’re smarter than this.”
“Since when do you call me ‘babe?”
“We’ve been over this, I’m not Emily. I’m your version of Emily and apparently you subconsciously wish she’d call you more pet names.”
I’ve never thought of it like that...
“I want to show you something else,” She gestures to the bathroom. “Pay attention this time.” As she leads you through the door you can hear your past self speaking.
“She told me I have a weight problem with a god complex intertwined.” You huff from the bathroom mirror.
“Who?” Em is sitting on the edge of the bath moisturizing.
“That bitch I work with!”
“The same one who asked if Africa was a country?” She scrunches her face up in a disgusted twist.
“Yes! Who says that to someone?”
“Yeah how did she get into the academy anyway?”
“Privilege, both Pretty and Rich.”
She lets out a scuff. “That cannot be real.” You turn to her with a confused look. “Pretty privilege.”
“It’s very real and you clearly have it.”
The brunette stops dead in her tracks. “What?”
“You’re gorgeous Em, and you have been appointed more opportunities for it.”
“I’d like to think differently....” she trails.
“I’m not saying you haven’t worked hard to get where you are today but your looks have pushed you a bit further than the rest of us.”
She’s silent for a bit, to the point where you start to worry that you’ve done something wrong. “Then what does that make you?”
You place your towel on the rack and turn to face her again. “What do you mean?”
“You have the looks, charm, and brains. Do you consider yourself to be ‘privileged?”
Completely bipassing the question, “You think I’m pretty?”
“Was that not obvious before? I practically drool whenever I look at you.” She’s as sincere as always but your eye rolls says you don’t believe her. “I know how you can get trapped inside your head sometimes, but I want you to know that I do not share the opinions you have of yourself. You look at yourself and dismiss your beauty while I embrace it. You’re always doubting your intellect when I find myself wondering how I got so lucky to fall in love with a female version of Spencer.” Your small smile morphs into a laugh at the Spencer mention.
“I can’t stand it when you go all soft on me.” Hearing Emily say stuff like this always surprises you because she’s not really the type of person to confess all of this first. It’s usually you who has to adress your emotions as a couple.
“Only for you.” She leans up and plants a kiss on your cheek.
As the memory fades you turn to the consciousness you’ve been talking to. “Shit.”
“Yup.” She draws.
“The reason she didn’t see my connection to the victims is because she doesn’t see that side of. She doesn’t see me as her ‘Plus-Sized Girlfriend.’ She only sees me as her girlfriend, no other labels attached.”
“So, you get it? Do understand why?”
“I get it now.” A tear teeters on the edge of your eyelid. “Yeah, I get it.”
She snakes an arm around you, effectively pulling you into a tight hug. “Are you ready now?” She even smells like your Emily, the memory making the tear fall from your eye. “Remember what I showed you, okay?” Before you can respond a warm light envelopes you.
It makes sense now, she recommended me for the case because of my abilities, no because we’re together or she wanted me to get ahead. She has a blind spot that’s blocking a good chunk of her perception of me. She couldn’t have known I would’ve been targeted. The unsub could’ve been watching me way before I got involved. There’s still a bunch of holes in the case but this is the best you’ve got. Please remember all of this before you wake up.
Your eyes are heavy again. The room feels cold but warm at the same time. Trying to peak out of one eye proves more difficult than it seems. The blinding light of the room is overwhelming, it’s like white ice. Now I’m not making sense. You try to cry out for someone, anyone, but the words die off on your dry lips before they can formulate. “Hey,” You hear a voice softy call from the other side of the room. A tender hand plants itself on your knee, making you flinch a bit. “Glad to see you awake.” Why do I know that voice? In front of your barely open eye is a blonde blob; as your eyes began to focus you realize it’s Jennifer.
As you try to master a hey all that comes out is a low croak. “Its okay, don’t try to speak just yet.” Everything in your head feels fuzzy but the only thing you’re able to think about is Emily. A hum that barely resembles an ‘M’ boils out your vocal cords.
“Emily?” She clarifies on your behalf. A small smile breaches your features. “I’ll go get her and the doctor.” No less that a minute later you can hear her healed boots tapping towards the room. She rushes to your side, planting kisses along your forehead. The doctor does her round of intake on your body with Emily glued to your side.
“Agent y/l/n should make a full recovery so long as the healing process goes as planned.” Was all you managed to absorb as she explained the aftercare plan for you. All of this while JJ is in the background putting the pieces together. She had a feeling Emily was seeing someone but had no idea that someone was you. The way she’d been acting since you collapsed in the office made her also connect the dots. Emily explained her concerned behavior as a long friendship you two once had. Everything was starting to make sense now; you’re the one person who could break Emily’s walls and tear down this compartmentalization bullshit she has going on. Not wanting to impede on what she can only assume is a private moment, she steps out of the room to inform the rest of the team.
“Are you okay?” It’s like she wants to cry, scream, ball her eyes out but all of that built up emotional strain won’t allow her. Instead of letting her do this to herself, you try your best to shift in the bed. “What are you doing?” You didn’t get very far but now there’s an empty space beside you. Motioning for her to lay next to you actually works. With both of you in the annoying small hospital bed you can hold her closer, feeling the quick heart beat. The brunette head of hair in nuzzled in your chest so not to interfere with the tubes and wires still attached to you.
Taking a deep breath and just enjoying the moment, you finally speak. “I’m okay. I mean I feel like I swallowed sandpaper but I’m okay.” You can almost feel the sigh release from her chest.
“We still have no idea how you were poisoned or why you were targeted.” Her jaded voice is always never this emotional, it’s strange to hear her so vulnerable. “For the smartest minds of the FBI we feel a little stupid.” The laugh the bounces around in your throat is painful, still welcomed. “Baby,” She starts after a moment of silence. “If I have realized the connection between you and the victims, I wouldn’t have let you work this.”
“You didn’t know,” You have no idea where this is coming from but something in the back of your mind is telling you to explain it to her. “You don’t see all of me, Em.”
She sniffles and buried herself deeper into you. “When I look at you, all I see is you. I don’t see your weight or your figure, I only see you. My girlfriend. You’re right, that’s the problem. I’m only seeing part of you. Not all of you. I don’t deserve you.” She moves to stand but you quickly pull her back in before she gets the chance.
“You can’t run from this, Emily. I understand that you didn’t do this intentionally.”
“My actions- blindness almost costed you your life. I can’t put you in danger again.” When she pulls away you let her go this time.
“Emily. You’ve ran away from your own shadow before, aren’t you tired?”
“If it means keeping you safe, I’ll file a fucking restraining order!” She nearly yells.
“Don’t do that. Everytime you fuck up you get that look in your eye like I’m going to break up with you or something. I’m not. I know you’re waiting on the other shoe to drop but I promise it’s not. All of those other guys you’ve been with? I’m not them. Big difference is that I’m female and a lot more mature. I’m also not as psychotic as he who shall not be named.” A small smile breaches her features. “I love you. Rather you like it or not, you’re stuck with me.”
“Oh really? Wait until Garcia finds out I’ve been hiding this from her. She’s going to wanna know all about you. You’ll definitely be invited to the next girls night.”
“I don’t mind.” You shrug. “But seriously, how did I get poisoned?”
“The forensic team is still searching our place, nothing yet but you know they like to take their sweet time with cases. I’ve obviously be recused from the case while the rest of the team works with the CDC and the Anti-terrorism division. We also have agents and Unis posted outside the room and hospital so the Unsub has no chance of coming after you again. Even an added air filter so he has no vent system.” She waves towards the attachment on top of the existing air vent. No wonder the air smells so crisp in here.
“Sounds like I’m in good hands.”
“You are, just wish I could be out there with them.”
“You’re right where you need to be, right where I need you.” You stretch your arms out to her like the way a child does.
She laughs at the gesture but complies. Instead of squishing into the small bed she drags the chair to the side of your bed, firmly clasping your hand in her’s.
