As he took in your figure in that gorgeous wedding dress, your fiancé — soon-to-be-husband — couldn't help but drop his jaw.
Stuart Scola had faced a lot throughout his life. From getting to succeed in the Wall Street jungle, to facing his family's judgment for his career change — and losing all of his so-called friends —, to making it in the FBI, with all the mockery that followed him everywhere. Not to mention the job itself, deliberately putting himself in harm's way every day… But nothing had scared or got him as nervous as asking you out for the first time.
It wasn't that you were a scary person or anything because you weren't. He just looked at you like there was no one else from day one, and, because of that, you seemed too good, too much, to ever wanna go out with him of all people. And, somehow, he just knew that you were his only shot, because you'd ruined him for anyone else without even trying.
It was a hot, sunny day when the two of you met: Stuart was working on a case that had him chasing a perp through the streets of New York City, as usual. Everything was going by the same old way until he disastrously bumped into — more like fell on top of — someone, correcting his own thoughts, as he took a look at you beneath him, he began to think of you as the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen and, of course, that had to had happened while he was on the job and shamefully on top of, who hadn’t banged your head in the cement solely because the agent’s reflexes had kicked in and he’d quickly put his hand under it. Right as he’d started to lift himself, Scola had a jumpscare out of his admiration trance when his radio sounded, awfully loud: it was OA telling the other agents that he’d caught the criminal, so everybody could stop the chase and head back to HQ. A minute too long after the radio message came through and Stuart didn’t make another move to leave the awkward position the two of you were into, you decided it was time you’d reacted:
“So, um, you’re really not planning on going anywhere, officer?” You asked, mistaking his bulletproof vest for one regular cops would wear.
“Y- yeah, of course, ma’am, I’m so- sorry for the inconvenience,” he started, already the most nervous he’d ever been. “I’m actually an FBI agent but that’s a common mistake.” He said already standing up and helping you up before people stopped going around your lying figure to start going over you. “Are you okay, though?” He asked, truly worried as you hadn’t stated anything else.
“Yeah, I- I think so. My butt took most of our fall though!” You attempted at a joke, only then starting to realize how handsome the guy standing in front of you was. And you’d already found his nervousness cute. The actual thought in your head was: handsome, cute, employed, and polite in NYC? What a catch — okay, maybe your expectations were a tad low. Still, you’d never really had the opportunity to meet one of those in the city you’d moved into not long ago. But what really settled your delight for the man was how flustered he’d looked as he said:
“Maybe I can help with that, back at HQ!” A moment later, he added: “Not in that way! Of c- course, I don’t mean any disrespect of any kind! I just thought that maybe, maybe-”
“It’s okay, agent, um,” you started stopping to read the nametag on his vest, “Scola. I’ll be fine!”
“Oh, please, call me Stuart. If you’d like, of course…”
“Stuart it is, then! I’m (y/n) (y/l/n).” You answered, as a small smile started forming on your lips, mirroring his own smile. That was when he heard in his ear comm the gruff voice of Jubal shouting to his agent:
“Ask her out and get back here already, Scola!” In agreement with the boss, Stuart heard basically his entire FBI team shout:
“Ask her! Ask her!”
So he gulped down and said: “Listen, (y/n), I, uh, was wondering if you may consider going out with me any of these days?” He phrased it so politely that you were barely sure what he was asking but you, obviously, already knew your answer.
“Yes, Stuart, I’d very much like that.”
“Well- Well, I, uh, I’m very glad to hear that! But now I have to go back to work…” He said, starting to turn around but your voice stopped his movements:
“Okay but aren’t you gonna ask for my number?” You asked amused as hell by the man in front of you.
“Ah, yes! Yes, of course!” He said taking out his phone so you could put your number in it.
So, now — as you walked down the church's decorated aisle —, all he kept thinking was that, somehow, you managed to become more perfect every day, and, that he was damn lucky to get to love you. With those thoughts on repeat and with his mouth still open was how you met him at the altar.
"Stuart!" You hissed, "close your mouth or the photos will look awful!" He did as you told him, very slowly. You being that closer to him… Your smell along with all of that princess-like production… How could he possibly think?
"Sorry, darling…" He started to say, still looking very much taken aback. "It's just that… I still can't believe that I'm actually marrying you…" Hearing that, you gave him a bright knowing smile. Same old Stu…
"Huh… Well, then, maybe you'd like to confirm with the priest?" You asked him playfully, just to try and get him back to Earth.
"Uh? Priest, yeah. That sounds good!" But when he turned to the man in the robe, you realized he was actually doing it. “Excuse me, um, sir, but can you confirm that I really am marrying this gorgeous woman?” For God’s sake, you wanted to slap him. To look outraged. To pretend you didn’t know him. But all you could do was grin even more widely than you were already doing. Your stupid, romantic man…
“Yes, my son, I can confirm that. If it’s what you both desire, of course.” The priest answered with a kind smile.
“I can only hope that is what she desires cause there’s nothing I’d want more!” He shot back, giving you a wink.
“Okay, I think we can get on with the ceremony now that you’re no longer looking like a codfish.” You said, trying to sound annoyed while hiding your smile.
That seemed to convince the priest, who took the chance to salute the guests and the two of you, properly starting your wedding.
Now, you would be lying if you tried to say that most of his words made it to your ears. Just like your soon-to-be husband, you had completely zoned out. He was really going to be yours for the rest of your lives. Stuart Scola. That magnetic force of man was going to be your lover for the ages to come.
And, with that on your mind, you were somehow awakened from your trail of thoughts when the priest asked:
“Miss (y/n) (y/l/n), will you take mister Stuart Scola to be your husband?” To which you happily responded with a sonorous:
“Yes! Yes, yes, yes!” So it was time for your fiancé to answer his question.
“Mister Stuart Scola, will you take Miss (y/n) (y/l/n) to be your wife?”
“Of course I will, sir!”
“Then I pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride!”
And, so, your husband did as he was told. Giving you your first kiss as a married woman. And what a kiss! It was a good thing he was holding you, otherwise, your legs might have succumbed.
Following that was the applause from all of your guests and the reception party. All of which seemed to go by in a blur, as much as you kept trying to make lasting memories, and, next thing you knew, it was just you and Stuart at the hotel where you were spending your honeymoon. As you reached the room, before you could barely think about anything, your husband surprised you by taking your feet off the ground, and carrying you bridal-style through the door. About which he just said:
“Traditions are traditions, honey!”
“Oh, Stu!” You squealed out, not caring that the other guests might hear you.
Then, he walked you both to the bed, where he gently laid you, only to start tickling you, who, obviously, burst out in laughter.
“Stu! Stuart, please stop! I can’t breathe!” Hearing that, he immediately stopped.
“Are you okay, sweetheart?” He asked, his voice filled with concern. The moment he asked it though, you took the opportunity to start tickling him back, which only got you both into an established tickle fight intercaled with quick kisses here and there.
Requested by Anon –Hi! First I wanna say you're a life saver. You are pretty much the only one who writes for Stuart Scola and I have the biggest crush on the man. So second, I'd like to request something if that is okay. Would you write something for Scola x reader where they have a two year old kid together? Where the rest don't know he has a kid and they come across the reader and the kid at a crime scene? With a worried scola? Hope you understand and I hope you're willing to write it! If not that is also okay, thank you in advance either way!
Characters – Scola x reader, OA, Maggie.
Word Count – 534.
‘Shit.’ Scola cursed when he saw the building, then he looked down the street, noticing that your car was still parked down the block.
‘Are you okay?’ OA asked, Scola shook his head before he took off in a jog, quickly flicking his badge at the officer the tape was lifted up for him.
Ducking underneath it he started frantically looking around, OA and Maggie shared a look as he frantically ran his fingers through his hair. Messing up the neatly style hair do before he slid his phone out and started dialling a number.
‘Stuart.’ He heard, he whipped around and saw you standing at the edge of the group, Henry was resting on your hip as he jogged over to you. Pressing a quick kiss to your lips before placing one on Henry’s head.
‘We’re okay.’ You told Scola as he wrapped his arms around you.
‘You’re sure?’ He asked, you smiled.
‘Yup.’ You replied, leaning closer to press your forehead against his, waiting for him to exhale.
‘I thought.’ He said, you quickly shook your head, getting that image out your mind.
‘Don’t, we’re fine you should know by now I can defend myself.’ You said, bringing your spare hand up to cup his cheek, feeling his jaw tense underneath it before he nodded.
‘Daddy?’
‘I’m okay, buddy.’ Scola said looking at Henry who was balancing on your arm, Scola quickly took him from you and pressed another kiss to his head, taking a deep breath.
‘Did you have fun with mummy?’ He asked, Henry smiled and nodded.
‘We had fun, but I think you might want to tell your team about us before they break their brains.’ You commented, Scola looked at you before turning to OA and Maggie that were watching the three of you with wide eyes.
‘OA, Maggie this is my wide Y/N and our son, Henry.’ Scola introduced the pair of them to you, you gave them a smile whilst Henry was more focussed on the people that were walking around behind you.
‘Son?’ OA asked, Maggie nudged him and you chuckled.
‘Yes, you know when two people love each other very much.’ Scola replied, you whacked his arm and looked at you.
‘With the lines of work we’re in, we don’t practically go about mentioning him.’ You explained, Scola lifted Henry higher up with a small grunt.
‘But it’s a pleasure to meet you.’ You said, stretching your had out, Maggie was the first to put a smile on and accept your handshake before OA stepped up, still confused but returned the smile.
‘We better go, you look busy.’ You said, turning to Scola who wanted to object but you were right.
‘I’ll see you tonight baby boy.’ Scola mumbled to Henry, he smiled again.
‘Bye bye.’ Henry said as you took him from his fathers arms, Scola then turned to you.
‘I’ll leave dinner in the fridge, and I’ll be waiting.’ You told him, he nodded.
‘Don’t stay up.’ He said, you narrowed your eyes at him before giving him a quick kiss.
‘You know I do.’ You replied, pressing another kiss to the side of his lips before pulling back and walking away.
Jubal laid on his side, having just woken up from another great night of sleep. He knew that he should be getting ready for work, but the sight of her sleeping so peacefully stopped in his tracks. After his divorce, he didn’t think there was anyone else out there for him but then he met Y/N. She collided with him and spilled her coffee down his front, then proceeded to apologize and offer to pay for his dry cleaning for a good 20 minutes. He couldn’t contain his laughter and just stated that if she wanted to make it up to him, she would let him take her to dinner. She was a blushing mess after that, but gave him her number anyway.
And that was four years ago. Now, they are living together in her Brownstone and thinking about starting a family of their own. When they started talking about kids, he was worried that Y/N would want to replace his other kids but she didn’t want that. She had wanted to include them in the discussion and do family activities, especially after Tyler’s diagnoses.
“Why are you watching me, Jub? It is a little weird.” Y/N mumbled with her eyes still shut tight.
He chuckled, “I couldn’t help myself, love, you look so beautiful.”
She groaned, rubbing her face into the pillow. “I look beautiful with dried drool on my face and bad bedhead?”
He leaned forward and nuzzled her neck. “You are always beautiful, my love.”
“Kiss up.” She pushed him away, “you need to go shower or you will be late for work.”
He laughed, pressing a quick kiss to her cheek. He rolled out of bed, naked from last night's activities-- which made Y/N whistle as he walked away.
Y/N leaned against the counter, watching as the eggs sizzled in the pan--and trying not to throw up. Y/N always made breakfast for them, always packing Jubal’s to-go as he was always running late.
“Love! Have you seen my wallet?” Jubal yelled, as he came down the stairs.
She giggled as she pulled the pan off the stove. “It is by the door, like always.” She flipped the egg onto the english muffin and sausage patty that she prepped.
He grinned sheepishly as he picked it up from the entry table. “Thank you, love.” He slipped in behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist. “What are your plans for the day?”
She smiled, leaning back into him. “I have an appointment at 11AM, then a meeting with my editor at 2PM.”
He nodded in understanding. “Do you want to meet for lunch?”
She looked up at him with a big grin, “How about I bring you lunch? You won’t be able to get away if a case comes up.”
He pressed a kiss to her lips before stepping away. “That sounds like a plan, love. Just send me a message as you are on your way.” He moved towards the door, knowing that if he didn’t leave now he would be super late.
“I can do that!” She yelled as she watched him leave.
She turned towards the sink and took a deep breath, trying to stop the nausea building in her stomach. It was getting harder and harder to deny what was going on in her body, but she wanted a professional to make the confirmation.
After a quick shower, Y/N dressed in a loose sundress and sandals-- wanting to be comfortable for her appointment. With how scatterbrained she has been lately, Y/N did a quick sweep of the house to make sure all windows and doors were locked. She was out the door with about 45 minutes to get to her appointment, making sure everything she needs for her afternoon meeting.
The drive uptown to her OBGYN’s office took longer than she had planned, as there seemed to be more traffic than normal-- which had her practically running down the sidewalk. The Receptionist offered her a bottle of water as she signed in, noticing that she was out of breath and sweaty. Y/N shyly accepted, thanking her profusely as the receptionist copied her license and insurance card.
Y/N didn’t have to wait long, before a nurse called her back. “I have a gown sitting out for you, so that we can complete the scan.” The nurse stated as they stepped away from the scale.
Y/N nodded, stepping into the exam room. “Okay.” She hung up her coat and purse on the hook behind the exam table.
The nurse stepped out of the room, to give her privacy, and instructed her to sit back on the table once she was ready…
...45 minutes later… (AN: I am not going to write about the scan, because I have no clue what goes on in those scans.)
Y/N stepped out of the doctors office, having a difficult time focusing on what was going on around her. She couldn’t look away from the printed scan that her doctor provided her, trying to decide how she was going to tell Jubal. She hadn’t thought too much about how she was going to tell him, as they had given up trying last month.
As she was walking back towards her car, someone ran into her-- only to wrap an arm around her throat. She screamed, dropping everything that was in her hands.
“Stay back or I am going to kill her!” The stranger yelled at the officers that were chasing him.
Y/N gulped, looking around at the officers. She noticed that there was a mix of NYPD officers and FBI agents. She whimpered as his hold tightened. “Maggie..” she mouthed, flickering her eyes down.
Maggie froze, following Y/N’s eyes. “Shit,” She lowered her gun, but not completely putting it away.
He swung her around, making sure no one was behind him. “I didn’t do anything!”
“Rick, you need to let her go.” Maggie tried to reason with him. “If you didn’t do anything wrong, then come in and talk with us. We just want to talk, but if you hurt her….” She trailed off, not wanting to trigger him.
He tightened his arm up around her throat, causing her to try and tug them away. “I don’t believe you! You just want to frame me, like all the others.”
Maggie took a deep breath, “Rick, you need to let her go. Don’t you see that she is pregnant, you are going to hurt the baby.” He had a kid that passed away in an accident last year, so she was going to use that to get him to let her go.
He paused, looking at Y/N. “Is she serious?” He asked, loosening the grip on her.
Y/N nodded, “I just… got out of my… first scan.” She coughed, looking down at her fallen scans.
Her looking down caused the man to move her, so that he could follow her gaze. Y/N used this as an opportunity to elbow him really hard in the stomach---which made him release her. OA, who had moved behind them, tackled Rick as he was bent over in pain. Maggie took Y/N into her arms, pulling her away from the scene.
Maggie brought Y/N back to 26 FED, knowing that once Jubal found out that Y/N was involved that he would want to make sure that she was okay. Y/N clutched her bag and the scans that OA had picked up for her. She had never been in the middle of a standoff and she had really hoped to never check that off her bucket list. Maggie held onto Y/N’s hand as they stepped out of the elevator, giving her some comfort until they could get her to Jubal.
“Y/N!” He jogged towards, panic and relief evident on his face.
She released Maggie, dashing forward to wrap her arms around him. “Jubal..” She whimpered, feeling happy to be with him. “I was so scared.”
He tightened his hold on her. “I know.” He buried his head into her hair, the scent of her hair calming the rage burning in his stomach. “What were you doing uptown?” He asked, pulled back an inch.
Y/N stepped out of his hold, wiping a loose tear away. “I had an appointment at my OBGYN’s office. I was just walking back to my car.”
He frowned. “Is everything okay? Why were you meeting with your OB?” He asked, eying her body.
She grinned, pulling out the scan. “I’ve been feeling off lately, so I went in to confirm my thoughts.” She handed him the scan with a shy smile.
Jubal took it slowly from her hand-- shock taking over him. “You’re pregnant?” He didn’t look up from the scan.
She grinned, “Yes!”
He picked her up and spun her around. “YEAH!!” He cheered, pulling in for a long kiss.
Everyone cheered for them, which had them grinning like fools.
From the Big Apple to the Windy City - Chapter Three
Chapter One Chapter Two
"Two killers? Now you've lost me," Adam admitted.
"Right, uh, stay with me for a moment. Earlier, when Kevin and I were talking with Roger, the CSI, he pointed out that there were ligature marks around both Loreen and Tori's wrists. The first and only other girl to be killed in Chicago, Beverly Reynolds, also had those marks on her, along with every single girl killed in New York except for one," I explain.
"Dana Patricks," OA murmured.
"Exactly," I agree. "Dana Patricks is the only girl to not fit our pattern to a T."
"She had strangulation marks," Hailey recalled.
"Right. None of our other victims had that," I confirm. "In the FBI, we analyze different weapons and causes of death because they reveal a lot about our offender. Strangulation, especially manually, is very personal. That's why I think Dana Patricks was killed by her boyfriend, Casey Keys. It's a stretch, I know, but think about it. If Casey heard about Anna Garcia's murder, he could have tried to copy it and blame her death on the real killer. We never released that the killer bounded the hands and feet of his victims, which explains why Dana didn't have the ligature marks. Because Casey didn't know about it."
"I like where you're going Y/N, I do," Voight admitted. "But we have no evidence to prove that."
"Except maybe we do," OA cut in. "The M.E. up in New York found Casey's DNA on Dana, but because the two were together, no one thought anything of it."
"But Dana's parents mentioned that she hadn't seen Casey in a few days," I bring up. "They said they were going through a rough patch. Whenever I'm upset or angry or whatever, I like to take a long shower, and if Dana did that, any previous contact with Keys would have been washed off."
"So how did the new DNA get there?" Jay quizzed.
"And that's the case we'd make to get a warrant for Casey Keys' arrest," I claim. "I can call Agent Castile and get her to write up the papers. After that, all we'd need is a judge's signature, which would be easily obtained with the evidence, and Keys would be put into custody."
"You, Y/N, are amazing," Kim expressed.
"Wait a minute," Kevin interjected. "Getting Keys is a huge step, but we still don't have any leads on our real killer."
"Atwater's right," Voight announced. "Upton and Zidan, put a call out to your office in New York and get them started on the warrant for Keys. The rest of you, keep digging into the victims from both New York and Chicago. Something's gotta point us to our offender, and we're gonna find it."
............................................
"Hey," Hailey greeted as the two of us ran into each other in the small hallway leading from the wire room to the bullpen. "You guys contact your office back in New York?"
I nodded. "Yep. As we speak, Casey Keys is being arrested for the murder of Dana Patricks. Now all we've gotta do is nail the prick responsible for the rest of the killings."
"Easy peasy, right?" Hailey joked.
"Yeah. Easy peasy," I repeat and look down at the file folder in my hands. The file folder that contained the crime scene pictures of all of the bodies that had been found, both in New York and Chicago. All I could think about was the pain and suffering the girls had been through being beaten, bodies littered with cuts and bruises, even a few broken bones.
"You okay?" Hailey asked.
"I was just thinking about all of these girls," I murmur. "About what they've been through. And I just can't help but think that I could've saved them. Some of them, anyways. But the ghosts from my past, our past, got in the way. I didn't put my best foot forward because I was knee deep in memories that I haven't thought about in years. Being in Chicago hasn't made things any better either. If anything, it's made things 100 times worse."
"Hey. Listen to me," Hailey instructed. "You are not to blame for any of these murders. This guy is just good. You said it yourself, there hasn't been evidence at any of the crime scenes or footage of the offender with any of the girls. And since the kills are random, there's no connection between any of the victims. You and OA and your team up in New York did everything you could to catch this bastard. It doesn't matter that he got away. What matters is that you're here with us now, and we're gonna catch this son of a bitch."
"Thanks, Hails," I breathe out. "I needed that. But there's still one thing I don't understand. How are you still here in Chicago? Don't get me wrong, I do miss it sometimes, but after everything that's happened, I thought you'd have left like I did."
"Part of me did think about leaving," Hailey disclosed. "I thought that it'd be nice to go some place new and start fresh. But there are more than just bad memories here, Y/N. There are good ones too. Going to Gino's East after late nights out with you and our brothers. Hanging out at the Water Wall on hot afternoons. Walking around downtown when there was absolutely nothing to do on the weekends. Plus, mom and dad are still here. Even after everything we've been through, they're still our family."
"It's been 5 years since I've spoken to dad," I share. "I try to talk to mom at least once a week, but dad...I can't reach out to him. I just can't. Not after what he's done."
"Sorry to interrupt," Kim spoke and hovered at the entrance to the bullpen. "But I think we may have found something."
"OA!" I shout down the hallway. "We're needed in the bullpen." A few seconds later, OA emerged from the wire room and followed us into the bullpen. When we got there, Kevin was leading Adam and Jay out of the break room, and Voight was just exiting his office.
"All right, so Kev and I were going through all of our victims' last knowns, trying to figure out if we could create a timeline for their deaths," Kim informed us. "And as I was looking through some camera footage around the diner Tori Hughes worked at, I found this. Take a look."
My eyes were drawn towards Kim's computer screen as everyone gathered around her desk, and together we all watched the scene unfold. The camera, positioned on the entrance to the pawn shop next door, showed Tori leaving the diner with a younger man, whom she was draped all over.
"Were you able to follow them?" Adam questioned.
"Yep," Kim replied. "The camera never gets a clear shot of their faces, but I was able to get the license plate number of the car they got into. Problem is, the car was stolen last week, just around the time the murders started."
"Did you follow them on the traffic cameras?" I implore.
"As a matter of fact, I did," Kim responded. "Pods show them heading east to a motel on Southfield Rd."
"Maybe the receptionist or a janitor saw them," I suggest. "There could also be cameras there as well. OA and I can swing by and check things out."
"All right," Voight approved. "The rest of us will try to see if we can find a clearer image of this guys face. Then we can run it through facial rec and get a name."
...........................................
"Excuse me, do you run this establishment?" I ask the middle aged woman sitting at the small desk at the front of the entrance to the motel.
"Why yes, I do. Marge Haywood," the woman introduced.
"Agents Upton and Zidan," OA returned and pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket which showed the shot we took of Tori and our offender exiting the diner. "We were wondering if you recognize these two people."
Marge took the photo from OA's hands and examined it closely. "As a matter of fact, I remember these two coming in last night. Room 106, if I remember correctly."
"Chances are he signed in with a fake name," I tell OA before turning back to Marge. "Any chance you have security cameras?"
"We do. Just got 'em installed," Marge answered. "I can pull them up for you if you'd like."
"Please," OA said.
So Marge pulled up the footage, and we skipped to the night both Tori and Loreen were murdered. And what do you know, we got the scumbag on film. The cameras were so well hidden that anyone passing by wouldn't spare them a second glance. The footage showed our offender carrying Tori, who was bound and tied, before shoving her into the trunk of the car he had stolen. And that's when a miracle happened. The offender turned right towards the light post, giving the camera a solid look at his face. Solid enough for facial rec. I snapped a picture of the computer screen and shoved my phone into my pocket, turning to Marge as I did.
"Thank you so much, ma'am. You might have just helped us catch this guy," I claim. Back at the district, I ran up the steps two at a time to get towards the bullpen as quickly as possible. OA was right behind me, and the two of us took the last step seconds apart. "Tell me you got him."
"We ran the picture you sent through facial rec and we got a hit," Adam revealed. "Meet Travis Benton. 20 years old, has a decent rap sheet. A few pickups for possession and a DUI. Get this, Travis' father was arrested when he was a boy for domestic violence and spent 5 years in the Lincoln Correctional Facility. Him and his mother were hospitalized a few times because of they're injuries."
"Like father like son," I mutter. "We have any leads on him?"
"Travis' cousin owns a house up in Lincoln Park," Jay declared. "A few years ago Travis came down when things were really bad for him and his mom up in New York."
"And Lincoln Park just so happens to be where our last two victims were found," Kevin brought up.
"Offenders usually stay close to what they know. It's the first rule in geographic profiling," I state. "So we've got him. This is our guy."
"We've got him," Hailey confirmed and sent a smile in my direction.
"All right, suit up," Voight ordered. "We're going to that house, and we're going in heavy."
At Travis' cousin's house, the stolen vehicle was nowhere to be found. So, we all sat around in our cars and waited. OA and I were sitting in the SUV, air blasting, no words being exchanged between the two of us. We should've had a lot to talk about, seeing as we had basically caught our guy, but neither of us talked. Just then, the stolen car turned down the street, and when it got to our address, it stopped right in front, but no one got out of the car.
"Shit," I curse quietly. "I think we've been made." Seconds later, Travis sped off down the street and took a sharp right, escaping our vision. OA stepped on the gas and followed him, weaving in and out of traffic to catch him.
"Anybody got eyes?" Kim quizzed over the radio.
"OA and I are in pursuit," I answer. "He's going south on Damen towards the abandoned warehouses." Travis swerved to the left, and OA did the same, barely missing a car that was coming our way. "OA, it'd be nice if you didn't kill us today."
"I'm trying my best," OA defended. Travis then turned into an abandoned lot and ditched his car, heading into the deserted factory. OA slammed to a stop, and I hopped out of the car, pulling my gun from its' holster. Together, we entered the factory where we came to a T intersection. "You go left, I'll go right."
I nodded and went down the left hallway, taking a peak around the corner to see what was ahead of me. I walked down a few hallways, not spotting anything, but when I got to an open space towards the back of the warehouse, I saw our offender.
"Travis Benton! FBI! Put your hands up!" I shout. Travis stopped in his tracks and turned to face me, raising his gun to his head.
"I'll do it," Travis told me. "I'll end it right here."
"Travis, you don't want to do that," I reason. "Just put down the gun and come with me. We can sort all of this out."
"You know what he did, right? My father?" Travis asked.
I nodded. "Yeah, Travis. I know what he did to you and your mom."
"I always told myself I never wanted to be like him. But then when I saw Anna Garcia, I couldn't help myself. I wanted to see what it would feel like to kick the crap out of her. To be on the other side of the beatings. And you know, it felt amazing," Travis confessed. "I guess I really am my father's son. It's in my blood.
"Can I tell you something, Travis? My father was just like yours. He drank and drank and always took it out on my mom, my siblings, and I. He gave me this," I share and holster my gun, taking a step forward before pushing up my sleeve to reveal the long scar spanning the length of my upper arm. "My dad kicked me so hard once that he practically shattered my humerus. I almost couldn't become an FBI Agent because of it. But here I am, putting away people just like him. You don't have to be like him, Travis. You can make your own choice."
"I already made my choice. Look what I did to those girls. I didn't just think coming to Chicago would help me evade capture. I thought it would make me normal like before. But again, I couldn't help myself. It's in my nature to be violent," Travis claimed and turned his gun so that it was pointed towards me. "And I'm sorry, but I'm not going to prison."
That's when a few gunshots rang out, and suddenly, I was on the floor with a burning pain arising from my chest. I groaned and sat up, opening my jacket to expose my bullet proof vest. A single bullet from Travis' gun had been embedded in the kevlar. But that was odd because I heard multiple shots. However, when I looked up, I saw that OA was standing over Travis' body, gun aimed down at him. I guess OA had fired off a few shots as well.
"You okay?" OA questioned.
"Yeah," I reply. "I think so. Is he....?"
"Dead?" OA finished for me. "Yeah. Lets get you to an ambulance. You should get checked out just in case."
Minutes later, as I was being checked out by the paramedics, who confirmed that I would just have a large bruise for a week or two, the rest of Intelligence arrived, and of course, being my big sister and all, Hailey had worry plastered all over her face when she approached me.
"What happened? Are you okay? Where's Travis?" Hailey rushed out.
"Travis shot me, I'm fine, and he's dead," I list off the answers to Hailey's question. "I found him in the warehouse, and I thought telling him about what dad did to me would get him to stop and surrender. He did quite the opposite though."
"I know it's not how you wanted things to end, but we caught the guy responsible for all of the girls' deaths. That's a win in my book," Hailey disclosed.
I sighed. "I know. I just thought I'd feel different. Better, I guess."
"So I know you and OA have to get back to New York tomorrow, but what would you say to going out tonight with me and the rest of my team? There's this bar called Molly's that's frequented by cops, firefighters, and doctors. It'll be a good time. Promise," Hailey pledged.
I smiled. "I'd quite like that. I'll be sure to tell OA. We'll meet you guys there."
That night, OA and I met up with the rest of Intelligence at Molly's, and I could see why they liked it there. The bar's atmosphere was incredible. With a beer in my hand, I made my way over to the back table where everyone was waiting.
"There she is. The woman of the hour," Jay spoke. "How's it feel, knowing down that you finally caught the guy?"
"Not as good as I'd hoped, but I'm glad he's off the streets," I admit. "And uh, I'm sorry if I was a little snappy this week. This case, it just brought up a lot of things I wanted to forget."
"It's okay," Kevin reassured me. "We get it. Everyone's got things they don't want to talk about."
"Yeah. You're good," Kim consoled me.
"Before we get this party started, I need to talk to you," I say to OA. "Could we go outside for a minute?"
"Sure," OA replied. The two of us exited the bar together, and we walked off to the side to discuss something I had been wanting to the past day.
"I'm sorry," I apologize. "This whole case all you were trying to do was help, but I wouldn't let you. Instead I pushed you away, and that's not what partners should so. I know you were just trying to help, so from now on, I'll let you."
"So when I see you struggling to open your desk drawer back at the bureau, I'm allowed to help?" OA implored jokingly.
I laughed. "Sure. You can even help with that. I don't know why I haven't had that fixed. It's been sticking for ages."
"Well, maybe it just needs my magic touch," OA figured and took a step closer to me.
"Yeah?" I ask and smile up at him. "And what's that magic touch feel like?"
"I can show you," OA offered. And with that, he leaned down and pressed his lips to mine. I smiled and wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling my partner down towards me to get closer to him. OA's arms inched around my waist, and soon, we were chest to chest. After a few seconds, the two of us pulled away, out of breath. "I've been wanting to do that for a while."
"Me too," I agree. "But do me a favor. Lets not tell Hailey about this. Or Jay. Or the rest of Intelligence and the FBI, for that matter. I'd kind of like to take things slow and not have to worry about what everyone else thinks."
"I can get down with that," OA concurred. "We should get back inside. The others are probably wondering where we are."
"You're right. And it's getting a bit chilly out here too," I add. "No wonder it's called the Windy City."
OA laughed. "That's not why it's called the Windy City."
"I know. I grew up here, remember? It makes sense though," I reveal. "What doesn't make sense is why New York's called the Big Apple."
"As a New York native, I can tell you," OA professed. "But that's a story for another time. For now, lets just get back inside. And then, tomorrow, we can head back home to the Big Apple."
"Okay, it's unfair of you to use that nickname when I have no idea what it means," I scold lightly as OA held the bar door open for me.
"I know, but I'm gonna do it anyways. I'm your partner, so I'm allowed," OA exclaimed.
"Yeah yeah yeah," I mutter. "Whatever. Lets just get back inside so that others don't suspect something's up between us."
"Right, cause we would never let that happen, right?" OA posed jokingly. "But I agree. Lets go."
So together, the two of us headed back inside to join the others, who had no idea we had just shared a kiss. But knowing how Hailey was, she'd share it with Intelligence as soon as she found out. Then again, I didn't care. And tomorrow morning, I'd be on a plane back to New York with my partner, who would hopefully be something more soon enough. And it was all because of a case that brought us to Chicago, where my past only seemed to get in the way. So I guess Chicago did have some good memories. Because as of now, I'll always remember it as the place where OA Zidan and I shared our first kiss.

WARNING: Bad language, PTSD and sex. A LOT OF SMUT IN THIS CHAPTER.
After a few hours she signed the discharged papers and start changing her clothes. The shoulder was killing her, but she didn’t want to abuse the pain relievers Dr. Marcel had given her. They had given her a sling however Marcel clarified that if he did not move his shoulder too much, she would not need to use it all the time. Will was going to take her to Molly’s after finishing his shift. She had met some of her brother’s coworkers, all of whom were kind enough not to ask too much, although Caitlyn could tell that they all had questions.
Caitlyn was talking to Maggie, the nurse was scheduling her next check-ups when her brother approached them both ready to go. One bad thing about injuring the shoulder was that she couldn’t drive, she was going to need a driver for the next few weeks if she ever left the house.
“Are you okay with going to Molly’s?” Will asked as she drove.
“Yes, the boys are going to before they go back to New York” Caitlyn commented looking out the window.
“And when will you come back?” he asked.
“I don’t know, I have to come back to Chicago Med so Dr. Marcel can check my shoulder and after that, I guess I will pack everything” Caitlyn replied turning to see him “You can always come to visit me”
“When? I hardly have time to see Jay in my free time, if I have free time” Will commented.
“I know,” said Caitlyn “I don’t take holiday either, but we’ll make it work”
“I don’t want you to go,” Will said “Now that you’re back”
“I don’t want to leave either but my life is in New York, Will” Caitlyn replied “I’ll visit you again”
“Nothing to make up for lost years?” Will asked.
“Why recover years? We both made mistakes Will and we have to leave them in the past” she commented while her brother parked the car “I don’t hold a grudge Will, I know you did what you could”
Will looked at her and smirked, “Then we’ll make it work”.
“Nice place” Caitlyn commented as they walked towards Molly’s.
“The owner is a firefighter” Will informed her.
“And he also owns a bar?” she asked raising her eyebrows.
“In his spare time, Herrmann is a good guy” Will replied opening the door for her.
“Here you bring your dates?” Caitlyn asked “The place is very cozy but it has many people”
“First, no, and number two I won’t talk about my love life with you” Will replied.
“Don’t worry, I already have a good idea” Caitlyn informed him rolling her eyes.
“Will, how are you?” asked a girl with a hair full of curlers when they approached the bar.
“Hi Stella, this is Caitlyn, my sister” Will introduced her to the girl.
The girl named Stella raised her eyebrows “I didn’t know you had a sister”
“I get that response a lot lately” Caitlyn replied rolling her eyes “I live in New York”
“Oh, are you part of the team?” she asked pointing to the table where her coworkers were “What happened to your shoulder?”
“Long story, I’ll tell you if you pour me a coke” Caitlyn replied raising her eyebrows.
“No beer?” Stella asked raising her eyebrows too.
“I’m with painkillers” Caitlyn explained.
“Deal done girl, I’ll go get something for you” Stella replied “Will? The usual?”
“Yes, I am going to greet some acquaintances, ok?” Will told his sister
“Will, I’m a big girl, I think I can take care of myself” Caitlyn replied rolling her eyes.
“Well, just don’t drink any cocktails Herrmann offers you,” Will told her “What is more, drink nothing because you can’t” he added before disappearing leaving Caitlyn in doubt about Herrmann cocktails.
“Herrmann has the habit of preparing powerful drinks” explained a blonde girl who was sitting next to her “I’m Silvie”
“Caitlyn” she replied shaking her hand, “Nice to meet you”
“I heard you are Will and Jay’s sister” Silvie commented.
“Yes, I would like to say that I have nothing to do with them but sadly I can’t” Caitlyn replied rolling her eyes.
“What brought you to Chicago?” Silvie asked as Stella handed them their drinks.
“Work, I’m FBI” Caitlyn said taking a sip of soda “I came to investigate the serial killer case”
“Heard you caught him” Stella mentioned.
“Yes, my shoulder is a witness” Caitlyn replied pointing to her shoulder, “He stabbed me, are you firefighters?”
“Stella is a firefighter, I’m a paramedic” Silvie explained.
Caitlyn nodded “I like the bar”
“Molly’s is a shelter” Silvie informed him “The police, the firemen, the paramedics, they are always around”
“It has a friendly atmosphere” Caitlyn agreed.
“Who is the girl praising my bar so much?” asked a man approaching them.
“Caitlyn, this is Herrmann, Herrmann, this is Caitlyn, Will and Jay’s sister” Stella introduced them
“Nice to meet you, nice place, we don’t have things like that in New York” Caitlyn praised.
“It’s Chicago magic, girl” Herrmann replied.
Caitlyn had lived in Chicago for a long time and she could describe that city but she wasn’t sure she loved the city enough to say it was “magical”, it was probably the product of poor memories the city gave her. She saw Sheryll signal her and apologized to the firefighters for reaching out to her coworkers.
“How you feel?” Sheryll asked her when she approached.
“It hurts but I’m fine, I’m a little sleepy anyway” Caitlyn replied sitting next to her.
“Sleepy? You slept a whole day” Hanna told him.
Caitlyn shook her head. “Feel like I’ve been run over when do you fly back to New York?”
“Tomorrow” said O.A “What about you?”
“I still have to go to Chicago Med for a checkup this week” Caitlyn replied.
After that Sheryll, Hanna, and O.A fell into a conversation that Caitlyn wasn’t paying much attention to, to be honest. Instead, she was looking at another table where Jess, Clinton and Kenny were standing alongside whom Caitlyn recognized as some members of the Intelligence Unit. Kenny looked good. He was laughing at something Clinton had said. Caitlyn could swear she could hear his laugh from there, he looked happy and Kenny happy was Caitlyn’s favorite Kenny.
Their last time of marriage, when they were still together, had been heartbreaking and painful, so seeing him smile was something that made her smile too. Kenny was a fun person with his friends. Usually, he used to have a facade of seriousness and solemnity around him but Caitlyn was glad to know that he had at least smiled again.
Kenny was angry with her, Caitlyn understood, she had left him when he needed support with PTSD, but she did not regret it. Despite everything, he would continue to do it because that was how he had finally accepted that he needed help and that he could not do everything alone. The best thing had been that she left. And it had hurt, the first time it had hurt like hell, but therapy had helped her to feel better little by little and to overcome some unfinished problems that she had from her time in Chicago.
Caitlyn didn’t want to admit it but seeing Kenny again brought back memories, good and bad but memories at last. She just wished things had been different, that they just had more time or met at a different time. Caitlyn was too concerned not to repeat patterns she left looking back all the time and what might have become of them.
“Guys, I think I’m going to retire for today” Caitlyn commented putting aside her thoughts. Her friends protested, but Caitlyn promised they would have a drink when they got back to New York. She grabbed her coat and thanked Stella for the drink before leaving. Since her brother had given her a ride, Caitlyn should call an Uber but decided she was going to walk, it was summer and she liked to exercise. She carefully draped her jacket over her injured shoulder when she saw Jay leaning against her truck.
“When were you going to tell me you were married?” her brother asked her.
“I didn’t think it was your business” Caitlyn told him.
“At least you could mention it” Jay added.
“Before or after you judged me without reason?” Caitlyn responded wryly, “Or maybe after you stopped talking?”
“I expected more from you, Caitlyn” Jay replied.
“I’m sorry if you are disappointed by me and I’m sorry if you think I’m not good enough to talk to me” Caitlyn was furious because Jay believed he had the right to judge her after all that time “You left me for years and now you think you have the right to judge me or any of my decisions?”
“I went to fight a war, Caitlyn” Jay replied rolling his eyes “I wasn’t playing in the park, you know?”
“Yeah, I perfectly know that myself” Caitlyn reproached him looking the other way “I counted on you Jay, we were a team and you left me and after that, you just stopped talking”
“You are judging me as if I would have preferred Afghanistan to be at home
“We both know that you ran away when you turned 18”
“As if you had done any different” Jay replied.
“I ran away because dad took the shit out of me every day because I ended up in the hospital 8 times in a year because dad couldn’t control himself, because staying here was killing me slowly and because you and Will left me!” Caitlyn yelled at him “I was in pain too; Don’t you think Mom was important to me too? She left us all and yet you and Will had the option to run away while I had to stay here enduring all the crap from dad” She turned to continue walking towards her apartment “I’m sorry if I turned out in a major disappointment but this me is the best I could do with what I had to work with”
Caitlyn turned the corner feeling anger wash over her and collided with someone.
“Damn,” he muttered when he saw it was Kenny.
“I think the way you were yelling could say that” Kenny answered, raising his eyebrows.
“I’m not in the mood” Caitlyn told him, rolling her eyes and continuing her walk.
“Why do you insist on fighting with everyone?” Kenny asked, causing Caitlyn to turn around in a fury.
“I don’t know Kenny, you tell me, why do you insist on being such a hard ass to me?” Caitlyn answered approaching him.
“Sorry, do you feel bad that I was harsh on you when you left me unexplained?”
“I didn’t think you needed them, you were smart enough to figure out just why by yourself,” Caitlyn told him with sarcasm.
“You left me because suddenly that I was fighting wasn’t that attractive to you, huh?”
“I left you cause I was dead inside!” Caitlyn screeched tired that people believed they had the right to judge her “I lived for you when you didn’t want to live for yourself” She added moving her shoulder a little that was hurting again “I really tried to bring you back, I begged you to start therapy, Kenny. I begged you to do something for you, for me, for us, and you didn’t even try it for me”
“You left me anyway, Caitlyn” Kenny replied a bit stunned by his wife’s speech “You left me, you turned your back away from me when I needed it the most, you left even though you knew I needed you”
“You didn’t need me, you needed to lose me to understand that therapy was the only way to solve your problems” Caitlyn told him making a strange smile with her lips, “Some say you don’t know what you have until you lose it, I think we both know that’s true now”
She resumed her way leaving Kenny behind; it had been a more than stressful night, she could feel her shoulder giving her stitches of a pain asking her to rest. Caitlyn found herself unable to think. First, she had confirmed that her brother Jay wasn’t too happy with her. That was okay. It wasn’t like she was too happy with him either.
Unlike Will, Jay had always been the closest to Caitlyn growing up, and Caitlyn had always considered Jay her hero. Jay was always there for her while they grew up, when she was 7 years old and a boy threw her off his bike Jay went after him to beat him up when he was 11 and gave his first kiss Jay went again after the bastard who had touched his sister when she turned 14 and her heart was broken for the first time. Jay was always there until one day he said he had enlisted in the army. That day had been very sad for Caitlyn because she realized that Jay was going to go far away from Chicago.
When their mother died, Jay returned to Chicago for a time, but as soon as he could, he re-enlisted and disappeared. She later understood that they limited the time to send letters or communicate with someone abroad, but what she never forgave him was leaving her with her father. The only thing that ever hurt her was feeling abandoned when she most needed someone to protect her. Someone who would kick her father’s ass when she still couldn’t, because what Caitlyn had wanted most was that she had learned to fight in her teens, so she would have kicked Pat’s ass.
On the other side was Kenny, Caitlyn was exhausted. It was better when she didn’t have to see it. She hoped she could at least take some blame for her ruined marriage. However, Kenny seemed hell-bent on throwing her in the face whenever he could that she had left him without looking back. That was a lie. She had called Jess to ask for updates until he told her it was unhealthy for her to keep worrying about Kenny like this if she had left him. It was the truth. It hurt to hear it, but Jess was right.
What had always intrigued Caitlyn been why Kenny had never looked for her, she hadn’t been hiding so at any moment in those five years he could have contacted and talked to her? However, Kenny had stayed on the sidelines. That had always intrigued her. “Why, if she was so important to him he still felt so hurt five years later, hadn’t he tried to get her back with him?”
Then Caitlyn decided that she was not going back to her apartment yet. She crossed the street and started walking the other way towards the downtown hotel where Sheryll had told her the team was staying. She and O.A were already settled in apartments when the team arrived. She showed up at the front desk and used her badge to be told which room Kenny was staying in. When she got to his door Caitlyn took a deep breath before knocking. Kenny opened the door and Caitlyn remembered why she liked him so much, there was nothing more handsome in the world than Kenny in a sweatshirt and sweatpants.
“Why did you let me go?” Caitlyn asked before Kenny could even open his mouth, “Why did you let me out the door that day if you needed me so bad?”
“I only wanted you to be happy” Kenny replied after a few seconds “Even if it wasn’t with me, I’m sorry it wasn’t with me”
“You were the love of my life and I thought I was yours too” Caitlyn murmured “But I was wrong, you don’t let the love of your life go out the door and you don’t go after him”
“I wanted you to live your life, the life that I hadn’t let you live while you were with me”
“I think loving you wasn’t enough for you” Caitlyn said.
“You always meant the world to me” Kenny confessed “I’m sorry if I let you forget that”
“Why did you never go looking for me?” She asked, staring at him.
“I went to see you one day, and I saw you leave your apartment with O.A, you were laughing at something he was telling you so I left,” He told her.
“O.A and me? That’s ridiculous”
“Now I know but at that moment I thought the best thing was to let you be happy, even if it wasn’t with me, your life seemed fine” He shrugged.
“It just seemed like that wasn’t true anyway” Caitlyn whispered “You were always so noble”
“You deserve to be happy” Kenny clarified.
“With whom? I did not know anyone who told me I was worth it until you arrived and after that, I think nobody was ever good enough” Caitlyn explained biting her lip with a grimace “Sorry I gave up on us when you never did “ she added turning around ready to walk away.
“Caitlyn?”
“What?” she asked looking back at him, but before she got an answer, Kenny kissed her. And by God, Caitlyn could swear it took her breath away every time he did. She stroked his hair as he took her by the waist. His touch could make Caitlyn’s body explode. It had always had that effect on her. It made her feel like a child who was having her first kiss.
He lifted her slightly off the floor to enter the room and close the door before pressing Caitlyn against it. God, he would never tire of kissing her. Every time he did, it was like it was the first time. He could never get enough of her. He lifted her into his arms and laid her gently on the bed. It was crazy; he knew it and he was sure Caitlyn knew it too, but neither of them wanted to stop.
Kenny took off her jacket and jeans as he stroked her legs before removing her panties. He slid down and fondled Caitlyn’s intimacy. He moved his fingers against her center and caressing her, making Caitlyn sigh. He ran his tongue over her folds and sucked on her clit slowly. Another thing Caitlyn missed about Kenny was sex. They always had the best sex in the world.
“Oh, shit” she said, throwing her head back and stroking his hair. Caitlyn moved her hips against him as she pulled on Kenny’s sweatshirt to remove it. He moved his tongue in circles against her center as she stirred against him, sucking on her clit once more before removing her top and bra and start kissing her lips again. Caitlyn kissed him and untied his tracksuit bottoms and then remove his boxer shorts. She wanted to move and give him back a little of what Kenny was giving her, but her shoulder wouldn’t stop bothering her.
Kenny nibbled on her nipples while inserting a pair of fingers into her intimacy, Caitlyn let out a little cry of surprise before beginning to moan out loud. He sucked on her nipples, causing her to shake. Caitlyn was shaking with pleasure when he settled down and thrust inside her. They both moaned. He kissed her neck before starting to ram into her.
“God” Caitlyn muttered throwing her head back “I had forgotten it felt so good” she moaned.
“Baby” he groaned, “You’re so tight” He could feel the walls of her vagina pressing against him. Sex with Kenny was hot, it was sexy but soft and delusional until Caitlyn discovered that it was her favorite type of sex, rough but soft at the same time. He took her breasts between his hands, kissing and sucking them as he started sucking on Caitlyn’s neck. Caitlyn arched towards him seeking to intensify the contact, his rhythm intensifying causing her to moan louder.
“Cum baby, cum for me” he whispered with gasps, and Caitlyn couldn’t wait much longer to fulfill his request before cumming between moans being followed by him a few seconds later.
She could feel her body shaking and her shoulder begging her to stop moving. Having sex with Kenny still made her shiver. It still felt as good as the first day. That was crazy. They hadn’t seen each other in five years and there they were, having sex as if time hadn’t passed. “Having sex” was a simple euphony because they both knew there was more than sex in that room. Caitlyn just closed her eyes, trying to calm the hectic rhythm of her heart. To be honest, she didn’t want to open her eyes and see his face. She was wondering how she had accepted this madness and how she had ended up in this situation. With all those thoughts in mind, she fell asleep.
Requested by Anon - Jubal Valentine request- After a one night fling the reader finds out she's pregnant. To complicate matters Jubal is her boss.
Characters – Jubal, Reader, Maggie and OA.
Word Count – 1.4k
Warnings – Sickness, pregnancy(?)
When you went out to celebrate with your team, you didn’t expect to wake up in a colleagues bed, naked the next morning. To make the matter even more complicated was that the person who you had woken up next to was your boss.
But now almost three months later, you weren’t felling yourself, you felt tired and run down all the time. Anything strong smelling instantly turned you stomach but the smell of OA’s aftershave had never bothered you today, until he walked in and swung his jacket over the back of his chair. When the smell invaded your senses you called your hand over your stomach before you pushed your chair back and quickly made your way to the toilets. Just crouching down in front of the toilet bowl to empty your stomach, that contained the bare minimum that you managed for breakfast.
‘Everything okay?’ Maggie asked, pushing the stall door over looking at your bent form, you ran your tongue around your mouth before spitting the sour taste into the toilet before flushing it.
‘I’m gonna make an appointment at the doctors.’ You told her, moving to the sinks and washing your hands before you patted your damp hands on your face, trying to cool you down.
‘Will you be able to make it through the rest of the day?’ She questioned, you nodded, looking at her through the mirror.
‘Unless you can tell OA to remove his aftershave, then no.’ You joked, her brows dripped and a wrinkle formed between them.
‘Is that what set you off?’ She asked, you nodded before you both chuckled.
‘I could make him shower if you want?’ She offered, you lowered your head as you smiled before turning to her.
‘No, I’ll be fine.’ You told her, she nodded before you both stepped out the bathroom, gaining a few stares but you ignored as you walked over to your desks, Maggie looked at you and noticed your face paling.
‘Nope, you’re going home. Go talk to Jubal.’ Maggie told you, you opened your mouth to protest but she quickly grabbed your jacket and bag, handing it to you before pushing you towards the office.
‘Jubal, do you have a minute?’ You asked him, standing in the doorway to the office, he looked up and nodded.
‘Everything okay?’
‘I’m not feeling to good, will you be able to mange without?’ You quizzed, he looked out at the team spread across the floor before nodding.
‘Yeah, we’ll be fine.’
‘Thanks.’ You told him, he gave a stiff nod before you turned and walked away.
‘Y/N?’ The dreaded voice called out, you knew since you were ignoring everyone calls it wouldn’t be long until one of them showed up, but you hoped that it wasn’t him. Anyone but him.
‘I know you’re in there I can see the lights.’ Jubal called, knocking the door again, you huffed before you pushed off the couch and walked over to him, unlocking the door and pulling it open to face him.
‘What?’ You asked, his eyes darted to look over you.
‘You didn’t come back into work today.’ He stated, you nodded and stepped back from the door.
‘I got Maggie to tell you.’ You stated, turning your back to him as you crossed your arms over your chest.
‘You could’ve phoned me.’ He said, you shook your head as your quiet footsteps were drowned out by his dress shoes.
‘I don’t exactly want to talk to you just now.’ You told him, he was shutting the door as he looked at you with furrowed eyebrows.
‘Why? What did I do?’ He asked confused, you stopped and looked at him before sighing.
‘Nothing.’ You mumbled.
‘Someone’s up with you.’ He said, you looked at him as he walked closer, taking a step back made him freeze as you twisted your face up and shook your head, debating what you should tell him.
‘Y/N.’ He said gently.
‘I’m pregnant.’ You spat out, his eyes widened.
‘What?’ He quizzed.
‘I am growing a child inside of me.’ You told him, tapping your belly.
His eyes followed your hands before he clenched his jaw and looked back at you. You could see the gears turning in his head.
‘Is it mine?’ He asked, you brought your top lip between your teeth.
‘What do you think Jubal? The one night I have off, I end up in bed next to you.’ You said, the corner of his lips flipped up as his eyes darkened remembering it.
‘Are you keeping it?’ He quizzed.
‘I don’t know. Maybe.’ You told him, shrugging your shoulders.
‘How far are you?’ He questioned, you reached up and itched your chin.
‘Just under three months according to the doctor.’ You told him, plopping down on to the couch, clasping your hands on your thighs.
‘Do you want a kid, have you ever wanted one?’ Jubal asked, you turned to him noticing that he was sitting on the chair, giving you some space.
‘I have no idea. I mean I see and deal with horrors every day and it’s not the best place to bring a kid up.’ You explained, he nodding knowing the fears that you were going through.
‘But they’d be safe with two cop parents.’ He said, you went to say something else but then his comment processed.
‘You would want to be apart of their life?’ You asked shocked, he nodded.
‘I’m not going to abandon my kid.’ He said, looking at the ground as he pung the hair tie against his wrist, you slid over in the couch, sitting at the end closest to him.
‘If you’re going to raise them, then I’ll be there helping you.’ Jubal told you confidently, he lifted his head so he was shaking eye contact.
‘But I will have some rules.’ He said, you arched an eyebrow.
‘Nothing over bearing just, you need to go onto desk duty immediately, I can’t risk losing the pair of you.’ He said, you fought a smile as he looked at you.
‘I know.’ You replied, you could see his chest moving as he exhaled the pair of you falling into a short silence.
‘Sounds like you care about me?’ You commented, trying to tease him before he reached up and pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed.
‘I don’t go around sleeping with people I don’t like, Y/N.’ He stated, making eye contact with you and you froze.
‘You like me?’ You asked, then you scoffed before he could answer.
‘I sound like a teenager.’ You stated, he chuckled before looking at you.
‘I bet you were a trouble maker.’ Jubal commented changing the subject, you pulled a face before shaking your head.
‘Never, I have perfect grades and everything. I was a goody two shoes.’ You said, remembering the good awful outfits you wore, that everyone wore because it was cool. You were glad that neon wasn’t a trend anymore.
‘With the pigtails?’ He asked, reaching up to his head to gesture them, you smiled widely and nodded.
‘Oh yeah, scrunchies and everything.’ You added, he laughed loudly and you watched the carefree look take over his face, before he looked at you, the wrinkles around his eyes were still there.
‘What?’ He questioned, you shook your head.
‘I’ve only ever saw you like that twice.’ You commented, pointing at him with a finger.
‘Like what?’
‘Carefree.’ You said.
‘When was the other time?’ He asked, you tilted your head to the side.
‘At the night out, laughing at something I said.’ You stated, he smiled not as wide as the one a minute ago but you still enjoyed the way his eyes narrowed and twinkled.
‘Because of you.’
‘Okay now your getting cheesy, your not getting into my pants again.’ You warned him, he arched an eyebrow before shaking his head.
‘As much as I, both of us, would enjoy that. I’m being serious.’ He said, his hand reached out and took yours, running his thumb down the back of it.
‘There is something about that makes me fell me again, makes me fell complete.’ He admitted, you both watched each other before you pulled his arm, bringing his hand closer to your mouth before you pressed a kiss to the back of it.
‘Let’s just focus on the baby, anything that happens we’re figure out later.’ You said, keeping his hand near your lips as you spoke, he nodded and smiled at you.

‘Where is she?’ You recognised his voice from anywhere, the concern filling it.
‘I’m right here OA, you don’t have to send a search party out.’ You commented, he rolled his eyes as he pulled you in for a hug.
‘I did that one time.’ He sighed.
‘And I won’t let it down, not yet at least.’ You teased him.
‘So I’m not complaining but why are you in Chicago?’ You asked looking up at him, remembering when you had been the same height for maybe a year before he shot up above you over night.
‘Maggie and I have been sent here to work with the local PD team.’ He said, your brows furrowed before you smiled.
‘Maggie’s here?’ You asked, he sighed and nodded before gesturing to his car.
You looked around him, before she saw you and you both smiled widely and waved before you looked back to OA.
‘Didn’t you say that your boyfriend worked as a cop?’ OA asked, you nodded.
‘Yup, Jay Halstead, and he’s probably the one that you’ll be working with.’ You told him, he arched an eyebrow.
‘So I finally get to meet him?’ He questioned, you rolled your eyes.
‘You we’re going to meet him next month, stop being so dramatic.’ You warned him, then you watched as the handful of men walked into the hallway.
‘Look, be careful today but I have to go that my client and asshole lawyers.’ You grumbled, OA looked at him before nodding and pressing a kiss to the top of your head.
‘I’ll see you at dinner.’ He said, you nodded as you gathered the information and files you needed.
‘You okay?’ Maggie asked, you nodded as you looked at your boyfriend and brother sharing the same room.
‘Yeah, I know the consequences of what could happen.’ You told them, you then tilted your head to the side.
‘I don’t understand why both of them got hurt though?’ You questioned, turning to her as she smiled.
‘I believe that they were trying to show off to each other, or rather OA was trying to intimidate Jay.’ Maggie explained, footsteps walking closer to the pair of you.
‘Oh yeah, Jay was trying to be cocky and OA was trying to scare him as they were chasing a suspect.’ Hailey said, you closed your eyes and sighed.
‘They aren’t seriously injured?’ You asked, they were sitting on the bed facing each other, knees almost touching but they were upset with each other.
‘Physically, no, their egos definitely.’ Hailey sounded pleased, the three of your smiled before you cleared your throat.
‘I wonder if they’ll tell on each other?’ You asked before pushing away from Hailey and Maggie.
Opening the sliding door you watched as they moved their eyes, but didn’t move anything. You shut the door, closing the busy ER out as you walked over to them, you slammed your fists into OA’s bicep and he grunted, before you turned to Jay and repeated the action. Both of them looked at you with wide eyes, holding their arms.
‘What the hell was that for?’
‘You two are the only men I care about, and your trying to up one and another?’ You asked, their faces dropped, glancing at each other.
‘Do you guys knew the pain I went through when Maggie phoned me, telling me that both of you were in here?’ You asked them, they both shook their heads.
‘You haven’t even known each other for a day and I could seriously kill the pair of you.’ You informed them, watching as their shoulders sagged before your cleared your throat.
‘So I’m going to be the responsible adult.’ You stated, they both looked at you.
‘You,’ you pointed at jay, ‘are banned from sex with me for a week.’ You stated, jay’s jaw dropped and OA started to look smug.
‘And you,’ you pointed at your older brother, since you couldn’t use the same threat on him your had to think of something else, ‘you aren’t getting any more Lebannon maamouls for a month.’ Now it was time for OA’s jaw to drop.
‘Y/N.’
‘No, in no version of my life do I see my brother and my boyfriend die in the same day. Ever.’ You finished before you turned and quickly walked out.
‘You looked you’ve just killed a puppy in front of them.’ Hailey stated, you looked at the woman before shrugging.
‘Took away what they both love.’ You commented, glancing at the time on the clock.
‘You up for a drink?’ You asked, Hailey and Maggie looked at each other before nodding.
‘What about them?’ Maggie questioned.
‘When they’ve grown up Jay knows where to find me.’ You informed them, before you made your way out the hospital, you and Hailey waving bye to Maggie, who quickly waved back before directing the incoming casualty.
‘Well look what the cat dragged in.’ Hailey stated, placing her drink down and leaning back in the seat.
You and Maggie turned around, watching as OA and Jay made their way over to the table, when they stopped at the edge you looked at them. Jay carefully leaned forward and pressed a kiss to the side of your head.
‘Are you done being toddlers?’ You asked, Jay and OA looked at each other before nodding.
‘Good.’
‘OA I’d like you to meet my boyfriend, Jay.’ You introduced them to each other.
‘Jay, this big idiot is my brother.’ You said, Jay and OA looked at each other again as you and Maggie slid m the booth to make space for them.
