Random Headcanons - Dimitri edition (FE3H)
He kept a horse at Garreg Mach pre-TS. While he started to train in cavalry, he grew attached and stopped to focus on keeping her alive. Post-TS, he discovers Marianne rescued the horse from the attack on the monastery, and she reintroduces him when he emerges after Gronder. He's a little scared of seeing her again in his current state, but she nuzzles into his chest despite his dishevelled appearance. Once peacetime comes, he finally names her.
He is very self conscious about breaking things - from his weapons, to teacups, to his writing equipment, to the chairs in the dining hall. He feels the effects of his crest are unbecoming of a prince, and his attempts to reign it in make his movements seem very stiff and repressed
He's thus terrified of touching anything in the greenhouse - he does not want to mess up Dedue's hard work
Moreover, this makes him very nervous when in a relationship. Whether its dancing or intimacy, he is very afraid of hurting his partner by accident
He's demisexual - Dimitri being on the ace spectrum just makes so much sense
Whilst he has no reservations about his scars being visible in public, he does make sure his right eye is always covered. Battle scars are natural in Faerghus culture, but something about his wound from Cornelia's torture is very personal to him, and prefers to keep it hidden
He, Dedue and Ashe would hang out together a lot in each others' dorms pre-TS, whether playing board games, reading together or just spending time in company
When Dedue returned, Ashe was still nervous to ask to hang out - he's seen how Dimitri's 'changed,' what about Dedue? Regardless, they start cooking together and immediately hit it off again. When Dimitri re-joins the group, Ashe invites them all into his dorm again for a good-ol' game night to break the ice once more.
He'd sometimes sneak away at night - Sylvain spread the rumour he was seeing a girl, but really he'd sneak down to Dedue's dorm if nightmares got rough. He'd often check on Dedue too, even if the latter was reluctant in opening up about his own demons.
Whenever they travel for missions, he prefers horseback to carriages.
Whilst he loves Dedue's cooking, of course he can't taste it. Therefore, he can act a little performative when gushing about the taste. He's unaware that Dedue can see right through it
He keeps every single item he's sewn with Mercedes, no matter how sloppily made his final product is. He makes small gifts for Byleth post-game, which she wears with pride
Pre-TS, Claude and Sylvain try to push him to wear more casual outfits - he looks so stiff and formal all the time to them. They try and pick him a flirty outfit for the ball, which he refuses in a flushed manner, opting for more traditional wear.
He wasn't a fan of dancing with a stranger at the ball, but he was advised to not be seen in the arms of someone he knows - his uncle wouldn't want courting rumours getting out
He has subtle eyebags in his pre-TS appearance.
Post-Gronder, he becomes rather embarrassed by the state of his hair. Ingrid notices and helps him tie it up into his NG+ style, pretty but battle-ready all the same. When he asks her how she's learned such techniques, she simply states she's been spending too much time with Mercedes and Annette.
He finds comfort in hugs but struggles to initiate. Even with people he sees like family, such as Rodrigue, he feels it wouldn't be appropriate. He and Dedue were physically comforting to each other when they met, but Dedue drifted away slowly across the 4 years they lived together as he was judged under the eyes of the court and public. They grow physically closer again post-A-support
