Feanor as a dad: loses it when an outsider criticizes one of his sons because that’s almost like criticizing Feanor, hence their later persistent clannishness. Encourages their interests but is disappointed if they don't become obsessive perfectionists about them. Clingy due to neurotic fear of abandonment. Sticks Nerdanel w/discipline for the same reason. Sons grow up thinking they're responsible for his stability due to increasingly frequent meltdowns over the years. None of this obvious pre-Oath, hence seeing the Flight as an adventure and swearing the Oath lightly: they didn't know there were barbs on that hook.
