#febficaday - Day 12

Author:  ladymemebeth Rating: Mature Word Count: 20,017 Era: MWPP

Summary: an AU story in which sirius decides to go to remus' house when he runs away, rather than james'. remus finds this situation to be trying in more ways than one. includes gratuitous references to twentieth-century cinema and music.

Comments: Wow, this is such a gem of a fic. Beautifully written, with that very languid atmosphere that fits so well with summer fics. I absolutely love Remus; his characterization was so spot-on. He wants and worries, thinks too much and doesn’t recognize how incredible he is as a person. I also like seeing the vulnerable, fragile side of Sirius, especially after having run away. I think I’ll be rereading this one again very soon; I can’t wait to savor the gorgeous writing and slow burn relationship again!

#febficaday - Day 11

Author: BastardSirius Rating: Mature Word Count: 30,563 Type: Non-magic!AU, Modern!AU

Summary: A few years after Sirius, Remus and James graduate from university, Remus moves across the country, disappearing from Sirius’ life for five years. Now he’s back in town, and Sirius has trouble letting go of the resentment he feels for having been left behind, as well as dealing with feelings that are resurfacing. Modern Muggle AU set in the US. Please mind the tags, although I can confirm that the negative ones do not refer to Sirius/Remus.

Comments: Oh, I want to hug Remus so much. A very compelling, well written story that deals with the effects of abusive relationships (not between Remus and Sirius).  Everything is very honest and real, and I think you can tell when an author has included a bit more of their soul in a fic because it seems to resonate so much, no matter the reader’s specific experiences. The fic also navigates between Remus and Sirius’s time and relationship during college with the present day, and explores the way they reconnect and rediscover their feelings. A brilliant, beautiful story that balances the angst and comfort and pining perfectly. Highly, highly recommend!

#febficaday - Day 6

Author: fluorescentgrey Rating: Mature Word Count: 11,837 Era: Post-Hogwarts

Summary: London, 1980. It’s not yesterday anymore, or: a retrospective as told through ‘77 punk.

Comments: I knew this would be my favorite kind of first war angst. I also knew it was canon and written by fluorescentgrey and so would absolutely tear me apart, in the best way, when I read it. And my god I wasn’t disappointed; this fic was glorious, gut-wrenching, heart breaking, so so perfect. I feel like everything in this story, the music, the characters, the war, the relationships, are inexorably bound together to create this intense atmosphere that keeps you constantly on edge. It’s dark and gorgeous and 100% going on my list of all-time favorites.

#febficaday - Day 1 Fest: 2017 Sirius Black Fest

Author: toyhto Rating: Mature Word Count: 7,249 Type: Non-magic!AU

Summary: A story in which Remus can't sleep, Sirius doesn't get his shower fixed, and there's steam in the air.

Comments: Remus is so awkward and oblivious in this, but very cute. He’s living the life of an isolated writer until his neighbor decides to pop in to use his shower. But this is Sirius we’re talking about, so of course he pushes into Remus’s life even more. Really great dialogue, and all-around adorable.

#febficaday - Day 15

Author: fluorescentgrey Rating: Explicit Word Count: 31,934 Type: Magic!AU

Summary: On a Thursday in April 1943 Remus took the train from London to Birmingham, where a stately black car was waiting at the station to take him a short drive southwest to Hagley. In a wood on the estate of the Viscount Cobham of Hagley Hall four local boys hunting quail had found a woman’s skeleton in a wych elm tree.

Comments: Another enthralling read by fluorescentgrey. It’s a very plot driven detective story, with a brilliant noir style and WWII setting. The tone was very bleak and the world was depressingly realistic at times, but the mystery and characterizations were so intriguing that I couldn’t stop reading. Everything I could want from a hardboiled detective story, and one that has kept me thinking about it long after I’ve finished.

Author: fallovermelikestars Rating: Mature Word Count: 36,775 Era/Type: MWPP / Marauders!AU

Summary: AU in which Remus, being as he is a werewolf and all, is homeschooled til he is 16.

Hogwarts is something of an experience, not least because there's this boy called Sirius Black.

Comments: Awwww, what a wonderful, adorable fic. Remus only goes to Hogwarts during sixth year, and immediately falls for one, very handsome, Sirius Black. They’re both very teenager-y, making stupid choices and learning from them, trying to work together to understand each other and their relationship. I like seeing how the dynamics change in marauders!aus, and seeing the way everything gets revealed (i.e. Remus as a werewolf, the others as animagi) in  different circumstances.

#febficaday - Day 21

Author: harryjamespooter Rating: G Word Count: 16,709 Era: MWPP

Summary: Remus has a habit of saying things he doesn't mean. Only this time, it involves Sirius Black being his fake boyfriend. And Sirius Black doesn't let things go.

Comments: Who’s surprised there’s another fake relationship fic during this recathon? Literally no one lol. This is such an adorable, wholesome fic with endless blushing and holding hands and pining. If you’ve read too much angst, cleanse your soul with the pureness and wonderful romantic cliches.
