#feeder rodents

I am a horrible glutton for punishment and I hate having money and free time, so I've been breeding my own feeder rodents for a while now and focusing heavily on best husbandry and forage diets.

As a direct result of this, I've developed a lot of appreciation for rodents as companion animals. I've been breeding for pet-quality rodents as well as feeders and I thought maybe others might like to see how it's going.

There will be no gore, no reptile-feeding imagery, and all posts are tagged with #feeder_breeder to help folks block them if they don't want to be reminded about the food chain.

Hello!! You wouldn’t happen to have or know if any m/ice care sheets would you? I might have to keep feeders around but want to give them pet quality life.

Not a care sheet, but this is the forum I plan to use for if/when I eventually get mice as pets! https://www.petmousefanciers.com/ I’m not sure how they feel about feeder discussion on there, so might be wise to avoid mentioning at first if you decide to join in. But it’s the forum I had recommended to me by one of the admin of the hermit crab forum I was on, and I trust her, so I trust the forum rec!

Just did my monthly rodent order with The Big Cheese rodent factory and thought I’d let y’all know they have $29 flat rate shipping (per box) going on right now. If anyone here is in need of some feeders I’d check these guys out, their quality is pretty good.

i just looked at the reptilinks website and i am super confused. in theory they sound totally fine - it’s whole prey ground up, bones and all - but the nutrition information makes no sense. they say the rats and mice they tested were about 15% and 18% protein, respectively, but i’ve found other sources that say they should be about 60%! that’s an enormous difference! if all the nutrition information on their table was correct then the rabbit links might be a decent replacement for f/t rats and mice, but idk if i can trust it. they might be ok as part of an omnivore’s diet, but not for carnivores, and i still wouldn’t feed them because of the ambiguity.

does anyone know anything about this?

Hi! Do you know how to tell if frozen rodents have gone bad? The freezer that I had all my rodents in stopped working sometime within the last week, and although the rodents stayed at refrigeration temperature, I don't know how long they were dethawed for. So how do I know if they've gone bad? Thanks!

So...looks like I may be purchasing a female as well.  Shortly after I put my deposit down on the male I noticed another litter that was either recently posted or I accidentally skipped over.  She's on tentative hold I believe, and if I'm getting as much money as I expect this weekend, I should easily be able to afford both of them and be able to use the rest for the other things I need. I also need to go freezer hunting, and bulk order some rodents.  I'll ask my father if he still needs his small freezer otherwise I'll look around for some ads.  That way I can go ahead and stock up, and save money in the long run.  A lot of money. haha  I calculated buying feeders from the pet store as I am now will cost $500 a year, while buying on Laynes Lab (assuming shipping is correct - ~$60) will cost me right around $200 (including S/H) for all five snakes, and about $120 (including S/H) for four of them as I already have over a year's worth of rabbits for Cloud.  I just need the freezer for them. lol Does anyone know how long frozen mice will last in the freezer in the packaging they're shipped in (I'm thinking about 6 months but if they will last a year I'll go ahead and buy a year's worth of them)?
