the in another life comment is genuinely one of the most harrowing things either robert/aaron have ever said. aaron spent the majority of his time during their affair thinking desperately of another life with robert. robert even presented him with one when he wanted to run away but aaron knew it wouldn't work. and now the whole idea has just taken on another meaning because robert is back and time has stretched between them and in another life they have a child or two and they're happy and together and robert didn't leave aaron and destroy any trust he had. but now it's all for another life. it's literally the only way he can rationalise leaving robert the way he is now
