I just need to talk about Felix under the bed when Lake’s mom was being a butt. Just... his indignant reactions were perfect. When I was 16, I hated the idea of a guy I liked knowing about any of my real or perceived flaws. I needed to be perfect, even if that was unrealistic. He knew my flaws, but I didn’t want to know he knew.

So here’s Lake, clearly developing some kind of feelings for Felix and thinking he likes her because she’s perfect, because of the image she has carefully cultivated for herself. And then he hears a long rant from her mom about all her flaws and how she needs to style her body better. Which, rude. And if she’s anything like I was as a teenage girl, some of her emotions are coming from the fact that the guy she likes heard all of that. The guy she likes now knows she’s body conscious and has a mom who doesn’t believe in her.

But the audience has been able to see Felix’s frustration and anger through it all. We know that he disagrees and doesn’t care. I just remember watching it for the first time and being kind of emotional at his reaction. That’s the reaction you hope for, but think you wouldn’t get.

I just have a lot of feelings about how Felix is the best and how I’ve adopted him and how he does the right thing.
