Philip of Évreux (1306-1343) was Count of Évreux and, through his wife, King of Navarre from 1328 until his death, under the name Philip III.

Although at birth he was only a member of a cadet branch of the French royal family, he managed to gain importance when the direct Capetian line died out and acquired, in the name of his wife Joan II of Navarre, the Iberian throne and several French fiefs.

SPANISH ROYAL ARMORS

1. The Flower-Pattern Armor of Philip II of Spain

Desiderius Helmschmid, German, documented 1513–1579, Augsburg, c. 1550, etched, embossed, and gilt steel, Patrimonio Nacional, Real Armería, Madrid.

Known since the sixteenth century as the Flower-Pattern Armor, this suit was evidently delivered to Philip II during his extended stay in Augsburg for the Imperial Diet.

2. Child’s Armor of Philip III of Spain

Italian, 16th Century, Child’s Armor of Philip III, Milan, c. 1585, etched, embossed, and gilt steel; gold damascening and silver relief work, Patrimonio Nacional, Real Armería, Madrid.

This armor was made for young Philip to wear in foot combat at the barrier, a sport introduced in the mid-16th century. Participants wore half-armor, as they fought with wooden swords on opposite sides of a low barrier and blows to the lower body were forbidden.

I know that some people are missing, such as the husbands and children of Felipe’s sisters, but I promise I will tackle them when I get to fancast the other courts. (if I ever get to it, I have some partially cast but not all) (if I fancasted Carlos and Alberto already it was because I was feeling super inspired tbh)

Margarita de Austria technically doesn’t get married to Felipe III until after the death of his father but Elena was brilliant in El Ministerio as Margarita and I need more of her. (Same for Federico as Felipe III). Even if it is one itty bitty scene.
