ladybug fanfic recs
I wrote a little McLennon yuri ficlet, and I've had ladybugs on my mind since. Here's some of my favorites:
full ladybugs:
wash in the river on bended knee - sea_ranch (3,032 words). Synopsis: fem McLennon set in India, 1968. Comment: It's so nice. It's part of a fem McLennon series that starts really good and gets better with each installment, and this is the last part. Yuri.
Here Today - unitedstateofpeacecitizen (2,008 words). Synopsis: The Dakota, 1976. fem!john and fem!paul's last meeting. Comment: Second of a two-part series, it's a simple premise executed really well. Also, it's pretty sad. Basically gen, but background het and implicit yuri.
just fem!john and fem!paul:
across the river, deep and wide - orphaned (2,506 words). Synopsis: Teddy girls! Comment: Teddy girls John and Paul! It's got a different first meeting too, and does more than should be possible in 2.5k words. Btw, it's restricted, so you'd need an AO3 account to read it. Yuri, implied het.
only fem!john:
As It Turns My Head Around Me (Yes It Does) - batmanband96 (7,410 words). Synopsis: 1958-61 in chapter 1, then 1968-69 in chapter 2. Featuring John, Paul, Yoko, and George. Comment: Part of an excellent series that's still in-progress! This is the 4th part (the entire series is non-linear), and it's got a great dream sequence at the end of the second chapter. Yuri, het, and gen.
Children, Don't Do What I Have Done - batmanband96 (3,334 words). Synopsis: 1957-65. fem!john, Mimi, Julia, and parenthood. Comment: Again, the whole series is great, it's called "A Study In Femininity" and that's a very apt title. It looks at the social ramifications of the fem!john in a very realistic way, and it manages to be so sad even though it (mostly) sticks to the real timeline makes me think that it really succeeds at it. Mostly gen, some het.
only fem!paul:
That'll Be The Day - Anonymous (12,814 words). Synopsis: Set in 1961, Paul wakes up as a woman (via magical transformation). McLennon ensues. Comment: Bending the definition of Ladybug fic to include this, but it's nice too keep off. Sorta het? Paul retains male pronouns.
Wilma, Wilma - RubicsCube_300 (55,411 words). Synopsis: Beatles' first trip in Hamburg. Features fem!paul/OFC and some McLennon. Comment: It's in Chinese, and I might learn the language to read this fic properly. I generally avoid using google translate to read fics for quite a few reasons, but the author has given permission and it's so well-written that even the machine translation reads wonderfully. Mostly yuri, some het.
a great threat - moeexyz (10,727 words). Synopsis: Mainly fem!paul/Yoko, 1968. Comment: Everything moeexyz writes is a banger. Yoko PoV. There's also an extra from Cyn's PoV that's sooo good. Yuri, background het.
Neckties and Champagne - orphaned (4,377 words): Synopsis: McLennon, likely ~1964. Comment: Wish there was more, but it does work as a nice, self-contained one-shot. Het.
only fem!george: Couldn't find any yet. 😔
only fem!ringo:
Careless Times - sycagray (3,550 words). Synopsis: Teddy-era Starrison with George PoV. Comment: It's very sweet. Het.
I'd strongly recommend you start with the others, but here's mine too if you'd like: Birdwatching (1,493 words). Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
Obviously, this list isn't exhaustive by any means, I've only been infected with beatlemania for about a month now, so there's a lot more for me to read. I'd be happy to read any recs, thanks!
