psa since my neurologist just told me this.
if you have epilepsy and take birth control or feminizing HRT: BEWARE OF ESTROGEN, but progesterone is your friend.
estrogen is a natural proconvulsant, meaning it can cause or make you more vulnerable to seizures. progesterone is a natural anticonvulsant, meaning it prevents or makes you less vulnerable to seizures.

i was taking an estrogen-based birth control while seeing the same neurologist for YEARS and he only just told me this. for some reason. 🙃
anyway i know estrogen is often considered necessary for “full” hormonal transition, but there are still other options to suppress masculine features (progesterone, anti-androgen therapy, SERMs). you can also just take lower doses of estrogen (“microdosing” — i hate that word, but that’s how it’s referred to online). if you use full-dose estrogen anyway, it might mean increasing your doses of anticonvulsant medication.
as for birth control, there are estrogen-free pill options like Slynd (prescription) and Opill (over-the-counter)— though they can be more expensive and not as widely covered by insurance compared to estrogen-based birth control. There are also non-pill options like implants, shots, and IUDs, which are more invasive but still avoid estrogen.
(don’t just trust this post btw. i looked all this stuff up & put it here for your convenience, but look stuff up yourself too. i’m not perfect, and your health is worth the extra research.)
