Inktober #07 – Shy little will-o'-the-wisps!
Recent show poster that was rejected because of concerns over ‘copyright violation’ whatever that is. Sounds like a made-up term to me. Evangeline Maid Bread Co. isn’t going to come at me or anyone else for using their Evangeline Maid to promote a show at Siberia, but whatever. Such is the game. I’ll save this for later.
Feufollet
Common Name: Fae
Other Names: Griffinfolk, Ladderborn
Guardian Domain: Space, distance, and traversal between worlds
Sacred Metal: Iron
Realm of Origin: Elphame / The Ladder of Worlds
Overview
The Feufollet are the guardians of space itself—the keepers of distance, momentum, and passage between realms. Where others walk or dream, the Fae move. They were not made for stillness. Their bodies, cultures, and magic are shaped around flight, resonance, and the delicate mathematics of motion.
Among the seven guardian races, they are the most visibly non-human and the most visibly free.
Physical Appearance
Feufollet are lean, light-boned, and aerodynamic, built entirely around flight.
Wings: Large, avian wings; size, shape, and feather pattern vary by lineage
Tail: Long, thin, feather-tipped; species-specific and essential for balance
Hair & Skin: Always coincide with wing and tail coloration
Coloration: As diverse as bird species—falcon golds, crow black, kingfisher blues, snowy whites, iridescent greens
Ears: Long and sharply pointed
Horns: Rare, discreet, and tied to unusual bloodlines or resonance sensitivity
Their avian lineage is instantly recognizable. No two Fae look alike unless they share ancestry.
Physiology & Senses
Feufollet biology is hyper-specialized:
Extremely fast reflexes and reaction times
Extraordinary hearing, sensitive to wide frequency ranges
A Fae can hear minute sounds from miles away, even through environmental noise
Vision optimized for speed, altitude, and long-distance navigation
Light skeletal structure allowing sustained flight and burst acceleration
Each lineage excels differently—some in soaring endurance, others in explosive speed, water-adjacent maneuvering, or precise hovering.
Abilities
Fae do not simply fly—they manipulate space through movement.
Common abilities include:
Spatial acceleration (appearing to “vanish” or blur)
Short-range space warping through speed and resonance
Ladder traversal and rung repair
Enhanced aerial combat and scouting
Their power does not come from brute force, but from velocity, precision, and timing.
Culture
Feufollet society is shaped by motion and resonance rather than territory.
Lineage is identified visually through wings and coloration
Feathers are sacred; damage or loss carries deep symbolic weight
Architecture is vertical, open, and resonant
Music, vibration, and harmonic engineering are culturally central
They value freedom, skill, and adaptability, but struggle with grounding and permanence. Stillness feels unnatural to them.
Temperament
Fae are quick-witted, restless, and emotionally guarded.
They tend to:
Avoid stagnation and confinement
Use humor, speed, or bravado to deflect vulnerability
Form deep bonds slowly, but fiercely once attached
Outsiders often mistake them as flighty or unreliable. In truth, the Fae are deeply loyal—just unwilling to be caged.
Role in the Serpent Calling
As guardians of space, the Feufollet maintain the Ladder of Worlds, ensuring passage between realms remains possible. Schaccath’s manipulation of purity, resonance, and exclusion strikes directly at their core—turning motion into restriction and freedom into control.
The music community was in shock Thursday upon the news that a four-time Grammy nominated musician who has played with many Acadiana bands h
This is a little out of left field, kinda off brand for me and specific to my area, but still. A very, very good person and critical figure in our local music scene was taken from us yesterday. This is really, really devastating for our city.
When these kinds of things happen I like to try and echo the voice of the departed as much as I can. So like if anyone is interested in broadening your musical horizons or hearing what music from my section of the world sounds like, it'd make me happy if y'all pulled up Feufollet's music and let his memory just exist a bit beyond our little corner of the swamp, at least for a bit. Would mean a lot
We often joke that Lafayette has 100 musicians but only 10 bands because everyone plays with each other. He was emblematic of that. Every person who has ever picked up an instrument in this city has an experience with this guy

Feu Follet 'La forêt oubliée'
Second fruitful full-length album from the composer Alban Blaising aka Feul Follet, mailing from Nancy all his french force throughout a sui generis record truly picturing the author’s purest talent. A project that it’s accompanied by a haunting 20-page comic that covers the copious eleven tracks. But let’s make a point very clear: the equivalent of Will-o'-the-wisp is not the meek classmate nodding off his head, this chapter is difficult to fathom it out, it spreads maniacally in grooves, delighted fragments. Alban is a spider producing silk from his spinneret glands located at the tip of his abdomen. Each produces a thread for a special purpose. Now apply the same logic to his songs and you'd get a glimpse of its qualities. The walk inside the mastermind’s labyrinth begins with the title track, where the lanky sound is permeated by an irregular flow, until it gushes in a pastel rock adorned with nostalgic upbringing and infused electronic textures. The nature photographer blends his love for the animal kingdom, skin-prickling movies, sensational genres like shoegaze and dream pop wisely squeezed into a highly coherent album that, at the same time, defies the boundaries of the genres mentioned. La stèle collides with Cold Cave-like climate, drooping from electronic-driven lines of thoughts. The shoegaze input takes care of the trouble waters of unpredictability. The chords are meticulously embellished with turnarounds and melodic moonsaults. The message between the line is creatively delivering off-putting music seemingly uncomplicated, masqueraded by a vigorous talent. The project is pitted through a story of a boy discovering a mysterious tombstone while playing in an ancient forest, which eventually sets a series of peculiar events in motion, punctually corresponding with the respective songs. Animals disappearing into nothing, hunters who can no longer kill, hikers hearing spectral voices etcetera etcetera. The narrative mindset is the absolute A+: Interlude is so filmic, , vividly graphic in its storytelling, the struggle is filtered through synth mastery, whereas Les chasseurs’ volatile lyrics pave the way to sphinxlike tunnels of sonic effects. It swallows as a whale all the theatrical push as we were listening to Carach Angren or an anime theme. The more we listen to it, the deeper we enter inside the pulp of the story, which is echoed by feelings of innocence, paranoia and beauty, counterbalanced by an ahead-of-the-beat within playful mutations spinning around the endless metamorphoses of the piece itself (L’enfant). La forêt oubliée ( Blackjack Illuminist Record) is a record that calls the shot, it needs no saving graces, cascade of synth gemstones In which You definitely have to pan through its length by hand given. For instance, Le photographe is shrouded in remote audiovisual epoch, revitalizing a wandering structure which is punk per se, but much more when contextualized. Its powerful beauty resides in the sequence of the story, listening it outside of the chronicled tale would loosen its strength. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OHEiiH5dgo The album moves along like a mixtape brilliantly generated on the footprints of of The Cure, My Bloody Valentine, The Smiths, its unconstrained dna is molding poetry: it elicits plenty of catharsis, inflected in a subdermally unique monologue of shadows and eclipses. Inside this cauldron, La disparition triumphs in its buoyant mysticism, echoing through memories of the most investigational Mogwai, the puzzling synth leads aren't adamntly afraid of being predatory and utterly undomesticated. Their realm is harmonized by genealogical-sounding helps out. The rhythmic bassline is pumped by inscrutable vocals amalgamated in blood-curdling background but love-infusing creativity . And at the end of it, it’s not the forest to be forgotten anymore but us, lost and disoriented in this over-stimulating world. And we couldn’t be more grateful than this. Read the full article
