‘Fevvers Fall’ at Bitches and Banter.
‘Fevvers Fall’ is a pop up theatrical installation, which uses live bodies to examine the buying and selling of the female image throughout history. The performers take on the role of 'winged women’; a common Victorian circus 'Freak’, who had constructed wings brutally attached to the body. Using imagery from history such as painted women and forgiving angels the piece explores the dichotomy between the 'virgin/whore’ archetypes typically and persistently attributed to women.
The title was inspired by Angela Carters Nights at the Circus, a glorious piece of fiction with magical realism and powerful women at its core. It traverses the lines between reality and fantasy to such a precarious extent that the reader is left struggling to define any sort of objective reality.
This is no objective reality dear readers.
This piece was conceived and created by Megan Reid, Katrine Turner and Lily Ann Sinclair for the Night Fair’s ‘Bitches and Banter’ exhibition.
