the game takes place somewhere in the ffi timeline, with garlond/garland/localisation having become chaos in the spire of chaos in his pursuit of chaos
it looks like a mid to late 2000s edgy ps3 game in 4k
the demo drops within an hour. the files are corrupted so nobody can download it
the idea behind the game was "a story of an angry man". nobody on the team appears to have consumed media before
nomura designing the protagonist based on the idea of an Angry Man around the time of dissidia 012 has nothing to do with irl events. wait who let versus xiii out of the v

here's some highlights
Everyone is entitled to their opinion and if this isn't for you, then that's totally okay. But whenever I enter this tag, its always talking about how trashy or cheesy the game is. I suppose the mid 2000s edge is a bit strong but there ARE hints of tongue in cheek and self awareness. This is a 35th anniversary title and NOT going to represent FF as a whole. Its meant to pay homage to the first title and Nomura even stated that multiple areas to the game will have references to the others ( even musical cues like Sunleth Waterscape ).
I would have liked a regular remake to FF1 too. With character designs faithful to Yoshitaka Amano and whatnot. But this game has potential, I believe. Especially if one takes into consideration that this is a prequel. Those four most certainly are not the warriors of light. The promotional pictures even feature a fifth party member in the form of a dark haired woman. The colors represent the Four Fiends perfectly and if Jack is truly Garland ( aka C H A O S ) this has some interesting implications.
I think some are just too angry that this is a Final Fantasy title while completely disregarding the fact it's not even a numbered title. It's a spinoff prequel and toys with the concept of warriors of darkness. It's a fanservice game.
The story may be good or hell, might be awful, who knows! But it feels like a cheesy love letter to Final Fantasy 1 and i think its worth looking at.
Its has so much potential from the demo and Jack as a protagonist is fascinating. We're more than likely going to see a full corruption arc and I'm sorta excited. His blatant disregard of Neon's feelings is so refreshing and has hints of shade thrown towards players who get tired of self -sacrificial speeches. It reminded me of Yuna in FFX-2 ( and that was a sequel which got a lot of hate too btw for being cheesy ) when she said: "Your plan sucks" in a way.
I'd love to see more people talk about theories for the game and stuff. Perhaps play the demo and listen to some banter.
Lets give this a chance. And if it completely sucks, we can ignore it forever lol.
