while i do believe that thancred being a total shithead to ryne/minfilia at the beginning of shb was well in line with his character arc, it doesn’t hurt any less to see it. and his dialogue in french softens the blow a bit, i think, making his character have more of a tired and disappointed but caring vibe as opposed to being outward with his anger. 

scene: after you rescue minfilia from the eulmorians in lakeland and meet her and thancred for the first time in shb. alisae asks thancred why he was in lakeland.

EN!thancred: the girl. minfilia.

FR!thancred: i was there for her...for minfilia...

alisae then asks minfilia why she left suddenly without telling thancred; minfilia replies she felt wol’s presence and knew they were someone she had to meet. 

ENGLISH

minfilia: but with all the commotion in lakeland, i was afraid that thancred wouldn’t...let me...

thancred: and would i have been wrong? had i arrived a moment later, you would have been back in your cell in eulmore.

FRENCH:

minfilia: thancred said it was too dangerous to go near lakeland because of the soliders that had just arrived. but i thought that with you [wol] we could have stopped them...

thancred: and at the end, they caught you! you were lucky that we didn't arrive a moment later. do you realize they would have brought you back to your prison in eulmore!?

ultimately, fr!thancred’s tone is much less scalding and accusatory; the change from “he wouldn’t let me” to “he told me it was dangerous but--” is quite notable imo. i’m a big thancred enjoyer and enjoy his shb writing a lot, but i have to admit, fr!thancred and minfilia’s relationship is much less jarring.

- crystal exarch!graha addresses wol as “tu” despite claiming he is not graha or anyone wol might actually know.

- alphinaud is STILL addressing wol as “vous” while calling the other scions “tu” like we are friends now alphinaud i understand ur respect but PLEASE.

- alphinaud addresses kai-shir and, i deduce, pretty much everyone he doesn’t know to hold any important title or done any deed worth reverence as “tu”

also i kind of hc that evanna will drink soups and actual beverages by lapping at the container because it's more efficient if she doesn't have the right utensils or she doesn't want to share. i also imagine her hair grows out kinda fast so trims are done periodically by her on the road to maintain her shorter styles

I picked up ffxiv again after nearly a year. I may remake an oldie but a goodie of my characters and say fuck it to the past and embrace whatever the hell comes out of it now. Otherwise, I got some patch stuff to catch up on with my main. WELP! ADVENTURE!

this playthru i chose the third option, to which his response was: “wh-what do you—oh haha you must mean because she has audacity! okay well come on alphinaud, you can do it!”
