"give me a character" - would you be up for thoughts on Wedge?
How I feel about this character: I don't feel strongly one way or the other about Wedge. I generally don't like "I'm the FAT GUY! I'm SOOOO HUNGRY!" characters (even the ones who are super thin and the joke is based in irony). But I appreciate that in Remake they gave him a few more facets, like his courage, selflessness, and love of cats.
All the people I ship romantically with this character: I see him with Biggs, Jessie, or both at the same time. All three is probably the best. Let's face it, they're both tops and he's a bottom.
My non-romantic OTP for this character: This man would be major frienemies with Reeve. They would have the biggest glaring contest at a cat show. Wedge's cat may not be purebred, and it can't dance and sing and tell fortunes, but at least it's a living, breathing cat.
My unpopular opinion about this character: I don't know how everyone else feels about it, but I thought he Remake death was too blunt. Not, "Ah, he should have lived!" but "What… was the point of doing it that way?"
Oh don't get me wrong, I grasp that it happened to cement the understanding that the Fira aren't inherently benevolent. And in a post-Remake world, to establish that yes, everyone who was intended to die is going to die - Biggs and Wedge included. Fascinating piece of storytelling once we got the missing piece of information.
But defenestration? Seriously? What a fucking joke!
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: A BETTER DEATH SCENE. JESUS. If they'd mutilated him like The Grudge it would have had some real impact! Instead, we the audience can't help but hear Goofy yodeling as this poor guy meets his "tragic" end!
