I'm not going to lie I think the Gambit system in FFXII is one of the best systems for battle automation in like, JRPG history. I totally understand the fear of losing player agency, but in a game like this I don't want to have to micromanage 3 characters in a real-time fight.
It's also a lot of fun to play with overall, like a little puzzle.
