i was thinking of a fic idea i had a while ago, which was that all of the kanes have some sort of mind-reading ability, but everyone's was different. so like, erica can read anyone's thoughts as long as they are within a few feet of her, while pat's dad can only hear their mom, but she can be thousands of miles away and it still works.
the ability doesn't come on until 16, and pat's is a little different, like they all are, and he can get visuals, too, of what the person is thinking about. it's helpful for christmas shopping or whatever, but for the longest time pat thinks he can only get it from his family, which is kind of lame and he learns quickly how to block it out.
and then halfway through his rookie season all of a sudden jonny's thoughts are in his head. they're in a film meeting and one second pat is trying to pay attention to the breakdown of the PK, even though it doesn't really matter for him, and the next second there's porn playing in his head. it's disorienting as hell, and he can't figure out where or who it's coming from. he looks around the room and everyone is paying attention or at least doing a good job of faking it. and then he lets himself focus on the images he's getting a little more and *oh* this is definitely two guys.. one of them is on his knees in the shower, looking up through the streaming water at.. crosby?? and then fantasy crosby says "you're doing good, jon," and pat starts choking on his own saliva and has to excuse himself. precious future captain jonny is sitting there in film review thinking about getting throat fucked by sid?? this is too good, except pat can't tell anyone, and that kind of ruins it.
and it keeps happening. apparently for as bland as jonny likes to pretend he is, the guy is actually thinking about sex, like, all the time. pat is no slouch in that area himself, he's 19 after all, but jonny is in a category all on his own. and what's pissing pat off the most is that jon is apparently down to fuck the entire nhl except for him. he's been subject to jonny's fantasies about sharpy (fair enough), seabs (that one mostly involved a lot of cuddling, which again, fair, seabs does give good hugs), oshie (never has pat blanked his mind so quickly), bergeron, hammer, byfuglien.. the list went on, and yet pat was nowhere to be found. it was enough to give him a complex.
so maybe he started to flirt with jonny, just to see if he could make it into jonny's mental harem, telling himself it was really just for science, and he'd stop as soon as jonny recognized what he was missing and gave pat the starring role he deserved.
