in general, how do you feel about an abundance of uses of "male" or "female" being used to refer to human or humanoid characters in fantasy or fantasy-romance fiction?
i hate it, and it feels really transphobic
i hate it and it's just WEIRD and repetitive
hate it because weird/repetitive AND transphobic
i don't particularly care for it, unless it's repeated a lot per page
i dislike it but can ignore it

if used correctly or sparingly i think it can be appropriate

i'm talking about stories where characters are often referred to as "the male" or "a female" or "male/female" is highlighted in a description of them or a trait of theirs.
i have been seeing this so much the last handful of years, especially in niche or self-published fantasy fiction, and there definitely seems to be a connection or concentrated prevalence among the "booktok" contingent. i have particular personal feelings about this trend and am curious how others feel about it.
