1153 Prettig Weekend De rommelmarkt is nog in volle gang, maar mijn koopdrang begint al wat af te nemen. What makes a bicycle looks Dutch?

Hallo! Alles goed vandaag? I have been a bit busy during last week, hence, the lack of posting, sorry! But I still keep practising my speaking! le

As I also love cycling, during my trip in the Netherlands, I tried to figured out what is the signature look of the Dutch bicycle so that I can come back and try to make my bicycle looks more Dutch or if I'm getting a new bike (and I'm considering this too!), I can try to find the one that looks more like Dutch / European bicycle ^^ 

Dutch bicycle, as I mentioned before in my cycling review, are VERY big and very high. And I did feel quite short when I was in Holland.^^' In addition to that, the bicycles also come with

- A lock just under the seat which I've never seen in Thailand. Many also have a plastic water-spill preventer by the back wheel

- A back seat that was just a metal structure but most of them come in the same pattern. 

And I'm glad that I found a place to rent a bike that doesn't look like tourist rental one which usually comes with hotel's or the shop's name on it, so I feel more local with my bike when i got it! 

However, one of my favourite thing and I think it is what makes a bicycle looks like Dutch's the most is the Fietstas! (Bike bag)

I like it since before I went to the Netherlands. But when I got there, I realised how many shapes, colours, sizes they have and it really amazes me how popular it is! And they have them in all kinds of patterns and material as well.

Unfortunately they are a lot bigger than I thought (even when it's folded) so it wasn't possible for me to bring back because I had to travel quite light. I spend a lot of time trying to find one in Thailand but I couldn't. We seem to have only bike panniers which are meant for professional mountain or long haul biking.

One reason for that, i think, is because when someone talked about cycling as an activity, many people tend to think of a professional outdoor cyclist who has loads of gears and wear cycling suits. One evidence of that is when I went to a bike fair which suppose to have everything about bicycles but turned out it was only for mountain biking so I was quite disappointed of how we define the term 'cycling' here. But again, with different factors like this hot weather all year also make it less attractive than swimming or playing indoor sports. 

Still, I can notice the cycling trend in Thailand is increasing as I can see more locals are cycling now and not just foreign tourists and that's very good sign! I'm hoping for the best in the future :)
