One more recovery day
The weather was pretty nasty here - warm but windy and rainy which made it feel chilly - and I still felt some effects from Sunday’s half marathon. My plan today called for a real whopper of a workout, 5-7 x 1600 at VO2 Max effort.
Uh, there was no way I was doing that workout today. Not in these conditions and not given how sore my legs still felt. So I settled for 6 easy miles, followed by some core - planks, side leg lifts, bridges.
Tomorrow’s forecast looks equally if not more daunting. So I may have to suck it up, face the music and do the mile repeats in a big storm anyway. At least I have time to mentally prepare myself for this beatdown session. I’m the guy who once ran a half and won his age group in a driving snow/sleet storm though. Time to summon that guy up.
Arm day! Gotta isolate them arms and chase the pump!! 💪
Slow and steady...
So what's next
I've been sorting through this ever since I finished in New Orleans last month. I got my Boston Qualifier that day, so now what? Maybe it's been the influence of my high school track coaching, but now I really want to get my mile time down. I haven't trained seriously for the mile since probably my high school days. And let's be clear here, the 4:30s or so I managed back then are totally out of reach now. But can I hit something in the low to mid 5s? With the right training, I think so. I still need to work my way through marathon recovery, then probably do a little base building. But come mid-May, it's on.
