My life started
The day I met you.
I'd never been touched
Until your hand.
I didn't recoil;
I didn't tremble.
It was like we were one.
Finally whole.

I turned 33 this month. I began experiencing life’s brokenness at 3 years old, and ever since then, I’d always felt exactly that. Broken. About four weeks ago, I reread the story of the woman with the issue of blood in Matthew 9:20-22. I remember reading that “instantly” she was healed, and I paused my reading to say, “Lord, Jesus! I want that! I want to be instantly healed! I want this pain to…

The wind was blowing harder than before and the two human figures at the top of the tree just reacted to hold on to the branch they were sitting on.
The laughing didn't stop there; it made it louder. Merida’s hair was all over the place and Hiccup’s expression was alike to the one of a frightened cat. They laughed looking at each other and Hiccup continued his tale. He could see Merida in all her spendor. Her hair was bright and alive –like a burning fire– against the last rays of the sun.
The color of the leafs seemed to come alive around her, there were tones of pale olive or deep dark avocado green. In his opinion it looked mighty fine around the girl.
Merida started to analise the boy slowly. His eyes seemed different in the darkness, now that the sunset was on his lower back and his hair surprisingly conserved the wood-like color. His small hands were making expressions that conceded with the tales he was narrating.
The whole world seemed timeless. Weightless. The early shinning of the moon and the blinking of the stars made their appearance. Hiccup and Merida were easy with each other. The conversation was spontaneous. They talked about how was life on Berk with dragons and how life could be in Dunbroch with dragons, how Berk would be without dragons right now and how Dunbroch has a lot of bears around, how Berk would be with bears, how bears and dragons are different, how they are alike, how Toothless is the best pet on earth and how their lives turned out after all of this years.
Merida decided to keep her biggest adventure –or preferably known to her as the mistake– and Hiccup said nothing about his now cancelled engagement –why would he want to talk about it anyways? Right then and there only one thing mattered; they were finally together. After all this time they were still friends. Nothing had changed.
He didn’t look at her with sympathetic eyes and she didn’t look at him with jealousy.
It was perfect.
As time flew by the forest became darker and more thick, just as a wolf howled in the distance Merida realized a day away from Dunbroch had already passed and probably her parents were already organizing research parties to come looking for her into the forest. Sadly this had to end. She was about to tell the boy it was getting late but just about then she realized they had been staring at each other in silence. There was no certainty on how much time had passed since the conversation dried out but the act of just staring at each other gave Merida a strange feeling of fulfillment that could not be compared with anything else wandering her mind right now.
Slowly breathing in she whispered, “I think it is getting a bit late, I should go home now.”
Hiccup stopped smiling but did not allow a sad gesture to cover his face. “I am guessing that is a very good idea.”
She smiled and took one last look around. The forest looked to calm as the wind moved its parts from side to side meanwhile the silent town seemed to melt with the nature around it. And then suddenly both of them slowly started to climb down the tree, slowly hiding away from the moonlight.
Toothless was accomodated against the tree trunk and Angus was resting on top of some dandelions.
“Time to go Angus.” Said Merida as her feet touched the ground.
Hiccup felt a scratch of panic as he realized Dunbroch was relatively far away. But before he could say anything she sighted and looked at him.
Merida knew in what type of trouble she would get involved with if someone in Dunbroch discovered that she had maintained relations with a viking. The last time the vikings visited Scottish territory a very complicated conflict was developed. It was something her parents did not like to talk about with other clans or between themselves, in fact, she never asked because after a while she was told to never mention it again. Now it was the past, but her father was a strong man, with a very good memory and for so he developed a long process to let things go.
And after all, like the rest, she was abel to forget and the memories she has of those times of conflict are limited and blurry.
Even after all the recapture of historical problems she flawlessly decided to invite him home. “You can stay in the castle if you want to. I can get both of you in a closed barn and have you done a hot fire with some food.”
Hiccup was surprised by her proposition. He knew that the relationship of Scotts and vikings wasn’t in the best conditions. He remembered that one day he woke up and half of his people were already on the boats, his father nowhere to be found. Gobber told him that they were all meant to leave by midday. Hiccup could not understand why, he thought they were all meant to stay a much longer time, but even as he developed the proper questions his father never gave any answers. That was usual of him but as soon as they got into Berk no one asked more questions. The incident was never mentioned again by anyone, not even him.
Having recaptured the nature of the environment he was inside now he had a clear answer in his mind. “I think it is better if Toothless stayed inside the forest, he is rather difficult to hide around.”
She laughed and looked down. “That seemes very logic.” A long pause happened and then she said: “I have a place for you in the forest, a small house. It is very simply and empty but it will maintain you two away from the rain at least.” She started walking west waiting for the rest to follow.
As she walked away the three remaining slowly kept themselves behind her, as if she was the messiah towards some holy ground.
After about 15 minutes of walking she stopped and looked behind her. The outline of a house was clear around the forest. She did not bother to knok and opened the door with one small push.
“Here you have it.”
Hiccup was a bit confused because the house was literally in the middle of nowhere. “What is this?”
“It was the house of a–“ before continuing Merida opened her eyes and thought about a synonym of the word witch. None cme to her mind so she decided to to mention the magical properties that may have lived inside the house. “–a very old women who one day said she would go to the Wicker Man Festival in Stronoway but never came back.” The name seemed odd to Hiccup but the place was just fine for him. He did not require to sleep on the outside anymore.
He looked at Toothless and the animal gave him a disaproving face, and then looked towards Merida. Hiccup knew what that meant, the girl had to go through a probably dangerous forest towards a huge fight with her parents. Maybe all she needed was a little bit of reassurance and an escort in order to give her back a little piece of peace. “Don’t you want us to at least take you closer to Dunbroch? I would not be a problem for us–“
“We’re good.” She interrupted rapidly and forcefully. Of course she wanted to spend time with them but it was to much of a risk. “I mean, we were born and raised in this forest. I know everything about it, now isn’t that right lad?” She looked at Angus who looked unconvinced over her statement. “You look tired, it is better if you stay here and sleep for the night. Meet you again tomorrow on the circle of rocks?”
Toothless tried to make a type of grin to Merida and then at Angus. The facial expressions of dragons were very hard to read. Hiccup just smiled and nodded.
Without anything else to say she smiled and turned around towards Angus. She got on top of the horse and waved her hand to the viking.
He smiled and waved back only to find himself staring at the shadow of the girl sinking into the forest.
All he could think about was her eyes and smile, how her energy reflected happiness to other but uncertainty for herself. He started to think about over how he could help her, perhaps he could stay living inside that house, change his name and become a visitor on Dunbroch. Maybe Merida wanted to visit the whole world and he was able to accomplish such dream very comfortably with Toothless.
Hiccup and Toothless accommodated themselves on the ground and all the thoughts surrounding Merida seemed to work as a lullaby that took Hiccup into a deep sleep.
Meanwhile all she could think about was how much Hiccup had changed after all of those years, but as Dunbroch approached her mind seemed conflicted over Hiccup and her people. He was going to be safe where he was right now, she was sure of it. But neither Toothless’s needs to fly or Hiccup’s urge to explore could assure her anything. All ther was left to do was avoid her parents and try to fall asleep with the calm mind of certainty that she would find them inside that house tomorrow.
Happily in love again
So last night I got the best surprise ever! One of my best friends (and also ex) came back from basic training last night and surprised the hell out of me because I thought he wasn't coming in till tomorrow night. Mind you I do hate surprises, but I've been in love with him for years now and he's been helping me a lot since the shit I mentioned in my last post went down. And to make things even better not only is he moving in with me and my two other friends I live with (one of whom is my ex girlfriend and the other is like a brother) but mere hours after arriving he asked me to go out with him again and promised that he would never disappear without a word again. Which I can actually believe since we will be living together now. 😊 I'm so happy. Today is the first day in almost two weeks that I haven't had a total emotional breakdown about anything. Hell, I don't even miss the guy I left behind in Anchorage anymore and it feels amazing. Like I'm finally whole again.
