Story on the Power of Internet, Humanity Restored, and a girl’s hardwork.
This is real story that happened in China which my mum shared to me, which made me what to share it with you guys.
The article is in Chinese, which I will sort of translate and tell the story.
On June 12, 2015, a girl called Hai Lin, 27, was doing her job on a normal day when she got an urgent call from her Father.
The truck her dad was driving collided with someone, and he had to pay 300,000 RMB (approx 44,705 USD) as medical expenses / compensation.
The problem is, her mum just collapsed of brain hemorrage two months prior, and neither she nor her younger brother were financially abled.
So she planned and thought of something: to ask help from 300 people, so she could borrow 1000 RMB (approx 149 USD) from each person, and planned to return them all in 5 years time, with each month returning 5 people’s debt.
Her reason for choosing this was because of several things:
She saw it a matter of fact to return what she borrowed.
Easier for her to return when they need it
Not a lot of money, so less burden for the lenders.
So she posted it on WeChat (app that works like WhatsApp): No more and no less: 1000 RMB from 300 people, and 5 years to return the debt. Amount accepted through WeChat payment only.
She also had a system of ranking so she numbers all her lenders from 1 to 300, and for those who need it more urgently, she’ll push up the numbers and return the amount earlier.
Soon her friends started sharing it. In just two days, she received the full amount, with over half of the people from strangers.
She got lots of encouraging messages that all said the same thing, “It’ll get better!”, and “you can do it!” And she replied with “Thank you” and lots of emoji.
It took a long time and a lot of determination. She quit her previous job to find another and demanded high pay, then worked damn hard to prove she was worth it.
She did other jobs at the same time to support her mum who landed in the hospital a second time, and she had to hire a caretaker.
Some people wanted their amount a little earlier because of their own issues. Some refused for her to pay them back because they just wanted to help. Some even had deleted her and forgot about it until she sends them the amount and explain the situation. She posted a picture of a user Qing who said:
“Do your best! I’m sure you can return all your debts. Feel free to ask me whenever you need help, haha! Although we didn’t know each other, and lots of friends were against me doing this, but I wanted to prove that there’re still people to believe in, and you just proved me right.”
So she worked hard, experienced a lot, and in the end, she return everyone’s debts and it took her 3 years instead of her predicted 5.
There’s a lot of parts she mentioned that I didn’t fully translate but basically, most people donated the money to her not expecting anything back back cause they just wanted to help someone in need.
So guys, if anyone doubts the world we live in, there’s still humanity and kindness among us.
