I have been dealing with cognitive decline as a young person that’s lead me to have to drop out of uni (I was studying science—which I loved) and caused a lot of trouble understanding when reading and watching movies/videos. I have a lot of trouble processing information and my memory has gone to sh*t. I have not found any help for cognitive problems in young people and know that there isn’t much research done on it. I cannot think or learn or feel or just experience life in general, and I [1/2]
am incapable of helping with all the horrible stuff that is going on in the world right now. I don’t have any family I‘m close with or any friends whatsoever. For me, there is no reason to be alive. I want get better, because I want to think and feel and be alive, but I don’t see any chance of that happening. [2/2]
I’m so sorry that you have had to drop out of uni. I myself had to do the same thing with uni several years ago and then again from tafe last year so I can definitely understand what you’re going through. I’m sorry that your cognitive skills have declined, I know from experience that it makes a lot of things so much harder to do, I used to love reading novels when I was younger, I was one of those people that could read a whole book in a day, but now I just can’t focus and remember things and I find myself reading the same sentence over and over again.
It must be really hard not having any family or friends that you can turn to for help and support and especially with everything that is happening in the world right now. I want you to know though that we are here for you, so please don’t hesitate to contact us again if you need to talk to someone or just needing to vent. You don’t have to face all of this alone!
In terms of getting help, have you spoken to your doctor about being referred onto someone who would be able to help you with the cognitive stuff? If your doctor doesn’t have any contacts then don’t stop asking and seeking help. Sometimes we just have to keep asking for help from different people in order to get the help and support that we are needing, I know that this can be a very stressful and frustrating process in getting help but I can assure you that there is hope for you still and I’m not giving up on you either! Another possibility for getting help may be to contact a counsellor from either a helpline or on web counselling, counsellors from these services/ organisations are trained in many different areas so they might be able to help you too! Just an idea!
You mentioned that there is no reason for you to be alive due to having no family or friends and because of your cognitive issues. One thing I have learnt over the years is that you never know what the future may bring and what can end up happening for you. So please don’t stop fighting. Try to take each day as they come and just try to focus on what you need to at the time instead of focusing on everything at once. Again, I know this is so much easier to say than do but I believe in you and know that you can do this!
We do have a reason to stay page which I really encourage you to look at. You can access this page by clicking here. Go through the list and see if anything stands out for you. It can also be really helpful to make your own personal list of the reasons to stay living, feel free to use ours as a starting point if you wish! Sometimes it’s the really little things in life that can help put a smile on our faces and on others, it’s just a matter of finding what works for you to help you get through the days and especially the really hard ones!
I hope that this has been helpful and please remember that we are here for you too!
I’m thinking of you and hope that you’re going OK!
