slides into your inbox do you have any headcanons about the room games? anything you imagine happening outside of what is shown in the games or thoughts in general (im sorry if you have a post abt this but id like to hear you ramble abt these games :D)
HEWWO FRIEND this is such a good question whlskdjf!! ty for asking!!
I actually have Not made a post about my thoughts on The Room because half of my thoughts are just. musings about The Protagonist and the story I've created about them in my head, but I don't really consider those actual thoughts on the game since it's far more of an OC at this point 😅 I have drawn them though, and I did actually make a cosplay, even though I haven't posted that one lmao but here they are:

In terms of Actual Headcanons, let's see! (under the cut bc this got long)
Starting plausible/simple, I initially thought about A.S. as a former scientific partner, perhaps from the field of astronomy? His star projector sits heavy in my memory always. In other possibilities, I thought A.S. could be family. Perhaps a father, trying to get his child to follow in his research (they do mention having a bit of a tense history, but The Protagonist still came to his calls and he still dies to save them ;~;) or perhaps a brother. I think it's really poignant either way. Auuuugh I love A.S.
Also, less of a headcanon, but more of a note, I looooove how the victims of the Craftsman still seem to have some agency, even within the mockeries he forces them into. The scene where Maggy writes "HE DECIEVES YOU" on her window even though she's just an animatronic is soooooo dope. This ALSO makes me wonder if A.S. was ever actually captured by the Craftsman because I think I remember something about that before his death in TR2, so.... I wonder if some part of his soul was conscious and active in TR3 trying to help you. Maybe that's where the hints come from. Waaa idk I miss him.
Onto an Actual headcanon of mine that I Know is a long shot: so ok, Abigail Lockwood's survival of Old Sins is one of my faaaaavorite things in game, and I wish we got to see more of her. From this, I always thought it could be fun if she becomes the protagonist of the VR game to keep investigating what took her husband/almost took her.
It is a little ehh to think about Abigail going on to become to a cop lol, and also not very realistic to imagine a woman getting that job in the time period, but I was disappointed to be playing as a cop anyways, so one with lore I liked was a step up. I Also saw the theory on the wiki that Abigail is the Witch, however, The Witch is also one of The Craftman's victims, so it's unfortunate to think that she escaped The Circle and The Null only to be caught by him. It does slay to think that she was smart enough to deceive him and find someone who could save her from that imprisonment though.
I really like her either being the one to save others that The Craftsman entraps, or one who dug herself further in and was Almost caught by him, only to be saved by another woman(The Witch). I do like that consistently, the people who resist The Null and/or The Craftsman the most are the ladies (Maggy, Abigail, The Witch). Even if they don't all make it out, that's always been cool to me.
All that aside, genuinely I feel like there's a lot about these games that I don't understand lol (like girl.... what is the royal institute and how well known even is the Null, what even Is It??) but I kind of enjoy that mystery and getting to learn about it a little more every time I replay.
Like, in terms of what the Null Actually Is - you've been the one to make me ask the questions - is it sentient? What does it.... actually have to do with all those ominous tentacles? Are those manifestations of it or are they separate entities in partnership? Why is it from Mars ? Also. The Circle are worshippers of the Null? How did they find out about it without being eaten by it?? Many questions in the field that I think you have put more thought into than me. So please, by all means consider this a reverse ask if you want 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀 I am looking soooooooo normalstyle
At last, the tetralogy is complete! Really enjoyed the pseudo-nonlinearity of the dollhouse as a kind of hub world of puzzle rooms, but as with 1 and 2, there's one visually stunning path forward. Personally I think The Room 3 is the best, but all four hold a special place in my heart, especially since the first game was one of the earliest mobile games I ever played.
2021 again. Features The Null's glyph from the Room franchise by Fireproof Games. The bottom-right glyph is inspired by Antichamber's "Destruction" badge in Steam.
The texts are taken from The Room Two's chapter 4:
We began at home, staring at the stars. So much to discover, so little time.
Countless ships bore us triumphant to a hidden temple. It was at home you proved a shallow friend.
Under these alien stars I courted only death. I am saved by science. My muse.
What: Puzzle/adventure games where you follow a trail of cryptic letters into multiple rooms, attempting to find out what possibly-supernatural thing has led to the writer leaving them, and the myriad of odd devices you encounter.
I’m not usually one for games that are almost entirely puzzles, but I really enjoyed the slow reveal of what weirdness was going on in each game. You don’t interact with any people, just things that people have left behind--notes, puzzles, items, contraptions, machines.
The mobile versions can be beaten in a couple hours, but I felt like the enjoyment was worth my money, plus I can replay them every year or so as I forget the details so I can re-solve puzzles. The hint system is decent and I managed to get through the first two games without looking up a guide; the third game is longer than either of the others and more involved, so I found a guide useful occasionally (but note: since I’m not normally a puzzle person, I have a low tolerance for frustration and puzzle-solving, so I give up pretty easily). There’s also a fourth game that I own but haven’t played yet, but I expect it’ll be as fun and interesting as the other series entries.
My version came from: iOS (mobile), but other ports exist (all are on Steam, some are on Switch)
If you’re interested in a game described above, it may be available in other formats or platforms than what I played. If you liked this post, click my “reviews” or “video games” tags below or search on my blog to find more.
i am SO sorry for suddenly reblogging like. fifty posts about a horror puzzle game called The Room. i FINALLY found da very small community on tumblr and i am. so happy
Developer: Fireproof Games
Rrp: £4.99 (Steam)
This series of games seems to have become something of a staple for my Christmas games and honestly I don't mind that. As I said in my review of the first game sometimes we need to get away and recharge and these games provide a fantastic way to do that.
Once again this game is all about the puzzles within puzzles within puzzles. Although this time things are a little bit different in that now there are multiple endings you can get by completing certain puzzles that are not so clearly shown.
If you read my review of the last game, you might remember that I said that there was a more unsettling feel to the environments, well this one pushes that feeling a little further. It's not quite entered into the realm of horror but its starting to edge its way there.
Since this game has multiple endings that means that there is more content to be found than in the last two instalments, I'd say approximately double in fact. I'd still say that this game is well worth its ever so slight price increase.
